You can either hate the prequels more than the sequels or think that the prequels are better than the originals but one thing that we can all acknowledge in common is that the prequels did a much better job at making the galaxy actually feel lived in. In the first movie we got a desert planet with literally only 4 people and a military base. The Empire Strikes Back gave us a desolate ice planet in place of a desolate desert planet, a desolate swamp planet with only 3 people including a ghost, and cloud city which felt less like an actual city and more just like another death star but white. It was just another bunch of corridors and walls without any regular people in the background just sorta doing their thing. Return gave us Tattooine again, Degobah again, the death star again, and a forest full of teddy bears. Overall the original trilogy felt rather empty as a setting and there wasn't really any feeling of something bigger than the characters The prequels totally stepped it up with the introduction of Coruscant, Tokyo if it was a planet. Tattooine had actual people in it, with actual settlements. Naboo with it's vast kingdom/democracy(?) and the underwater tribe that lives beneath the surface. Camino with it's creepy white vibe and the Caminoans with their eerie nature as well as many other places. The prequels transformed Star Wars from a story to a setting. With it, you can tell any story that you want...

Music is the only good thing about these movies. The story is interesting but executed in a horrible way. Terrible dialog, horrific CGI, bland performances, and most of the saber fights go on for way too long. I checked out of the Anakin vs Obi-Wan fight when they started swinging around like fucking tarzan.

I feel like this video is just a bunch of empty points without any critical thinking/defense of said points. I, too, enjoy the prequels for what they are and was excited for a good argument, but this was all super general and vague. I think if you continue making videos like this, you should look into dissecting specific examples from each of the films that represent your points and break down WHY they are better. I think this video is missing the "why"-factor.

Get what you’re saying about the whole Saber duel thing, but let’s consider something. The lightsaber is the weapon used by the Jedi. In the prequels the Jedi were alive and well. Kind of hard to have other saber fights when there’s only one practicing Jedi in action. And of course only 2 sith. And Empire Strikes Back still has the best Soundtrack

force awakens: 3/10. i'm apparently in the extreme minority, but i think Kylo Ren is by far the worst part of the movie. Adam Driver's acting is atrocious to me, literally either talks in a monotone voice or is unleashing anger at full throttle to the point where it feels comical. ruins every scene he's in and acts like an insecure teenager. and then the characters just don't feel significant like they do in the other two trilogies. it's not a poorly made movie, i just don't really feel emotionally attached to the characters and the villain sucks ass. also, it copies way too much from a new hope and the original trilogy last jedi: 0/10. complete garbage. everything feels rushed to the point where the scenes just feel comical. a huge step down from force awakens, which wasn't even good to begin with rise of skywalker: 0/10. again, garbage. things happen randomly, Palpetine comes back out of nowhere, Rey & Kylo randomly fight like 3 times. just hot garbage new hope: 5/10. i think everything till the end is just boring. up till they leave on the millenium falcon barely anything happens. then even when they get to the death star it's not much better. getting stuck in the trash compactor is just weird and the scene drags. Luke & Leia fighting the storm troopers is whatever. Vader & Obi-Wan fight is garbage and because we don't know much about the characters i don't feel any emotion watching it even when Obi-Wan dies. i give it a 5/10 and not lower because the characters are charismatic, Vader is an amazing villain, and the ending sequence is really good empire strikes back: 8/10. pretty much have nothing to complain about. it doesn't score higher because the events don't feel like super significant and the movie isn't like full to the brim with action. but it's pretty much made perfectly. with the death star gone there's so many scenes of just Vader telling people what to do on the star destroyer and it's awesome. battle of hoth is great, Yoda training Luke is great, tie fighters chasing Han/Leia/Chewie/3PO into the asteroid field is great, then there's the emotions when Han & Leia are deceived by Lando and turned over to Vader, then Lando helping Leia escape, Han being frozen and sent to Jabba, Luke & Vader's lightsaber fight, then Leia/Lando rescuing Luke. just a great movie start to finish return of the jedi: 5/10. so i don't really mind the ewoks helping Han & Leia fight the empire, but i do take major issue with how long the stuff with the ewoks drags on. so much time is spent just trying to convince the ewoks to let them go and it's boring as hell. even before that when they're on the speeders in the woods the scene drags on forever and i'm not even sure that there was any point to it. Han & Leia spend basically the entire movie after tatooine on endor trying to get the shield generator down. just feel like their characters largely go to waste. i also find the way Luke talks to Vader to often be corny. the jabba sequence is really good as is the outer space battle and the Luke/Vader/Palpetine scenes to an extent. kind of an underwhelming end to the saga though for me phantom menace: 7/10. don't understand the hate it gets. i wouldn't say Jar Jar's a positive, but i don't mind him. i thought he was actually funny when he kept killing droids on accident at the end. dialogue is obviously pretty wooden, but i think it sounds fine. doesn't sound fake like Kylo Ren. with maybe just the opening sequence being an exception. first half of the movie i do think is really boring, but second half starting with the pod race picks up and gets really good. i really don't know how the ending sequence doesn't get more praise. you had Padme and her crew seizing the capital building from the viceroys, the gungans battling the droid army, the starships including Anakin fighting the trade federation ships, and Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan fighting Maul. FOUR different scenes going on and they were all great attack of the clones: 4/10. the one prequel where i understand the criticisms. the dialogue in this one i think does feel fake at times, the Anakin/Padme romance is BAD. he's constantly expressing his love to her in awkward, dramatic ways and she basically doesn't reciprocate any of it. that's literally like 75% of the dialogue between them. Anakin is just annoying as a character, is pretty much just being a whiny brat 90% of the time. but i do like the overall story, the Obi-Wan/Jango Fett fights, and then the end is decent revenge of the sith: 10/10. a masterpiece. the Anakin/Padme romance is really good to me, lightyears better than in episode 2, and so is Anakin & Obi-Wan's relationship where they actually feel like brothers after their constantly squabbling in the previous film. there's a corny bit of dialogue here and there, but i think most of it is fine. opening sequence is stunning and the Dooku/Anakin lightsaber fight has to be the most underrated of the saga the Anakin/Palpetine scenes are all amazing, and it's beyond me how people can feel that Anakin's turn to the dark side was 'too abrupt.' Anakin explains to both Yoda and Palpetine his fear of losing Padme. Palpetine says he's going to try and teach Anakin how to saver her, while Yoda brushes Anakin off. then the jedi council don't give Anakin the rank of master, they rarely give him any assignments or praise him for anything, then when they do give him an assignment it's to do something immoral, spying on the chancellor. meanwhile, Palpetine has given Anakin important assignments and is regularly showering him with admiration. saving Padme was Anakin's priority and the main reason i think he turned, but then all the other stuff built up too. when Anakin reports to Windu that Palpetine is a sith and Windu just sends Anakin to the empty jedi council room that was the last straw for Anakin. the scene where he's in the jedi council room at sunset and he and Padme are staring out at eachother from across the city, it's an incredibly powerful moment, maybe my favorite in film history. Anakin offically became Vader when Palpatine gave him the name a few minutes later, but it was in that moment when Anakin was staring out the Jedi Council room window when it really happened, when he'd made his decision. just an incomprehensibly powerful moment, when Anakin decides to become Darth Vader, arguably the greatest villain in the history of story and the way that Anakin's turn unfolds during the movie is so brilliantly done to me because if you do what so many people say they should've done and have the turn to the dark side be super slow to where he's like being taught by Palpetine throughout the movie then the moment he turns wouldn't feel all that significant because he would've already been most of the way there before the moment. but if they'd made the moment just happen out of nowhere then the moment would've just felt random and unexplained. George Lucas found a way to make the buildup gradual AND for there to be a super significant moment where Anakin turned because he had Anakin's emotions slowly build up, but then didn't have him turn to the dark till a specific moment i also think it's cool that Anakin had one assignment he completed as Vader before being in the suit. when he goes to Mustafar and kills the seperatists. and they address him as Lord Vader. just cool how he was known as Darth Vader for one assignment before getting the suit. then we have the otherwordly lightsaber fight between Anakin & Obi-Wan, just absolutely amazing, best in the saga by a landslide. makes even the phantom menace one look pitiful by comparison and just so many emotions at the end. i feel so bad for Padme who wanted to be with Anakin the whole time even when he was shooting down her political opinions, getting paranoid about losing her, and even going to the dark side. and then after all of that he chokes her and calls her a liar for bringing Obi-Wan even though it wasn't her doing. people call it corny that she died of a broken heart, but i don't think it's corny at all. just really sad. two scenes i really like that i feel never get brought up are first when Padme arrives in her ship on mustafar and the Anakin/Padme theme plays and she stares into space wondering if Anakin is beyond reasoning with and if their relationship is over. then the second scene is when Obi-Wan just finished killing Anakin (he thinks he has anyway) and he's flying away on his ship with his hand on his head like 'holy shit, what just happened' and taking in the gravity of it all but yeah, the emotions the movie makes you feel are just crazy. what an amazing movie

I still think the prequels were better than the originals, and I saw Star Wars at age 6. Nostalgia is the only thing that makes the original trilogy still hold water. The writing in the original trilogy is way more linear and simplistic than audiences today will tolerate. It is only nostalgia that gives them a free pass.

I will say, much of the reason this is is simply because of the technology back then. I feel like if George Lucas could do the prequels in modern time, he'd make them more fleshed out and complex. But as it stands, Revenge of the Sith is my favorite Star Wars movie, right in front of Empire Strikes Back which I think is PHENOMENAL. Gave it a rewatch just a few days ago, I think it's my favorite OT episode.

I'd throw my hat in the ring that battle of the heroes isn't spoken about enough. Not only is it played because of a dramatic battle between 2 fantastic characters. But because it's emotional, dramatic, etc. it's perfect. Dual of the fates is superb but the choir in battle of the heroes imo is way better. But yeah the prequels are wayyy better, maybe because I grew up around them but...the OT is literally being kept alive because of nostalgia. It's not bad but the prequels easily wipes the floor with it tbh.

      1. Not valid critisism 2. Clone troopers are way better than storm trooper 3. Darth jar jar is most powerful being in the galaxy /s 4. Ewoks are kinda stupid with them being able to defeat literal imperial troops

If the prequels are considered to be slower moving with a lot of walking and talking scenes in them, it was purely George trying to show the more civilized age of which the lightsabre was an elegant weapon. The story's of each movie were very good and as far as dialog goes, that's just the way they talked a long time ago in a galaxy far away

A lot of what you say here isn't fair. You concentrate on special and visual effects, fight choreography, etc., but of course the prequels are going to be better in those regards because they were made 20 years later with 20 years more advanced filmmaking techniques. If the type of CGI existed in the 70s that existed in the 90s, the original trilogy would have had it all over the prequels. Hell, the sequel trilogy had spectacular visual effects, and those movies are, as you pointed out, unwatchable. But what technology gives no advantage to is storytelling and plot. And in those regards, the original trilogy is superior to the prequels... though both are orders of magnitude greater than the sequels.

The prequels don't "suck!" "The Phantom Menace" sucks. "Attack of the Clones" is pretty good if you ignore the lame-ass love story part of it. And "Revenge of the Sith" is possibly the best of all Star Wars movies, but at least on par with the movies of the original trilogy.

Well in my opinion they are all good apart from attack of the clones, sorry I can’t ignore the lame love story.

You got it the opposite. Attack of the Clones is a snore. Phantom Menace is under appreciated

The lame ass love story? That love story was the best thing about Attack of The Clones.

I should correct you when it comes to Kasdan being the one that helped and make Empire great. Kasdan was the one responsible for how Yoda spoke and one or two other points but overall that's it. Lucas saved Empire in the edit because the version the director and Kasdan gave him was terrible.

My first proper experience of Star Wars was watching RotS on DVD, after that I watched all the other Star Wars films out at the time, and the prequels just fit so well with each other and the originals. TPM and AotC have some pretty big issues, namely Jar Jar and dialogue, but I can look past that for the main story, and both have great things to offer, such as the return of the Sith, and the masterpiece of Duel of the Fates. RotS takes most of what was wrong with the previous 2 and improves heavily; it looked better, worlds were better, it had a much darker, gritter air to it, and of course, Battle of the Heroes, which in my mind is no doubt the greatest lightsaber fight of all time, the choreography mixed with emotion amounts to an even more masterful masterpiece than Duel of the Fates The originals are amazing, and TESB and RotJ are my 2nd and 3rd favourites behind RotS, but they cannot compare when it comes to worldbuilding, lightsaber choreography and a bigger, more fleshed out story, and for me, Anakin's story is way better and more interesting than Luke's

I'm old enough to have seen Star Wars in the theater as a small child. I now rate the prequels as my favorite. Anakin is my favorite character, and his story is far more compelling than Luke's. Episode 3 was a masterpiece, and my favorite Star Wars movie ever since seeing it in 2005.
