Creative Street Photography in Harsh Light and Shadows
This is week 10, Spring Street!
It was really sunny and the day had really strong sunlight. I’ve watched videos on photographers opinions on harsh sunlight. Some hate them, some don’t mind them, some love them. In the video, I explore the reasons harsh light can make photography difficult… or is it just different?
I'm challenging myself to do street photography on one street every week.
One week, One Street, One Video.

I love the old couple in front of the posters. I am a beginner photographer. Can you please comment briefly on what kind of exposure settings you use to get that lovely contrast between light and shadow? I am having trouble understanding how to expose for these kinds of scenes.
Thanks! Yeah, of course. I typically use aperture priority while shooting, so I choose an aperture and then let the camera automatically set the shutter speed and ISO. The way the camera sets those values are based on my photometry setting, which I had "multi", it makes the camera to look at the whole scene and adjust the values to set a balanced exposure for the whole scene. So all in all, the camera itself helped a lot with it! If you want to learn more about it, checkout this video, I found it helpful and explain this stuff really well! th-cam.com/video/_tahbRKbfAc/w-d-xo.html
I love the photo with the lion statue 👏
Me too! 😁
the window reflection shot is a keeper, could do a series of those
Haha, yeah. One of my favourites!
why not both fun video cheers mate
Black and white gives more character imo :D.
Hi Sande, are you using ND filter to slower your shutter speed?
Hi! Yes, most of the time! Depends on the lighting. I use the built-in ND filter in the X100.
@@sandeharsa no dramas, thank you.
Thank you for sharing, I fully enjoyed your tips.
Thank your your sharing, it is very useful to me for taking street photography.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful! 🙂↕️

Amazing video, really enjoyed this
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Very nice video. Thank you
Thank you too for watching!
this video was really well done
Thanks for the kind words!
really enjoyed this, well done.
I like how you are sharing your process and discuss each photo.
I'm really bad at math. But wow. I love this idea. You gave me a lot to think about. Grateful for your post.
aw ye
do you happen to plan your photography projects in Milanote?
Haha, yes! Very loosely
Very cool perspective, love the red ute shot 🔥🚒
THIS was really fun to watch. Thank you for your ideas. I like that you worked find the scenes. I loved the "straight up" shot sequence too. Very eye catching. You really gave me lots to think about. Glad I follow you.
Thanks so much for the kind words! It means a lot 🙏
I love minimalist photography. At least I don’t have to get closer to people. Nice shots.
@@TeeNorbu ha! Yeah, being in a narrow street is kinda like being close to people but with the street as a barrier.
I hope I am not asking for too much, but can you please make your videos 8-10 minutes long😅. I really enjoy watching them.
I was waiting to finish my latest video before replying. It was looking promising to be a longer one, but it turned out to only be 7.5 minutes! Haha It’s mainly due to me only wanting to show the top most “interesting”photos. Hopefully as I create more, I’d have more photos that I want to show and the videos will naturally be longer :) Thanks so much for the comment!
3:28 a bit of a missed opportunity to get down lower to have the "Keep Right" arrow point towards the pedestrians.
That’s true!! That would’ve been a nice one. Good eye 👀
Great vibe, walk, pictures and music. 📷☺✌
Thank you 🙌
What a super fun song for the start of this. This is a great video. Thank you!
Cool tram shot and the family walking in sync, maybe the car shot could have been shot from low looking up at the building cutting out everything behind the car
Dang, that would’ve been good!! Wish I thought of that 😮💨
wow love your photography! 😍😍😍
Time for some photography lesson!
Yee buddy 👀
You have super cool videos. It's really nice to see how you reason about each shot, talk about the logic behind choosing 1 shot out of 3 almost identical ones. It's really cool to watch. I hope you keep doing your thing and I'm sure you can find your audience. Thanks for the video good luck^^
One thing I learnd from other photographers is if the composition is not aligned to a 3X3, try to imagine a grid in only a part of the picture. You did something close in the picture you took through a broken bus stop. Also I see you're a small creator like me so I just want to support you bud, you're doing great!
Most of the examples are using the bottom left intersection. I assume you can do right intersection as well? Any major issues with using bottom right? I like this tutorial format, nice one
Haha, I didn’t realise that the examples mostly use bottom left! You are right, you can use any intersection, including the top ones.
@@sandeharsa If I take photo of a person, should the intersection be on the head or body as a general guide?
@@mingweitee1074it should be the focal point, so it depends! Though it’s usually the head/face
Which city?
This is in Melbourne, Australia 😄
very nice shots, I like the vibe
Glad you like it!
great
