Great stuff! To me that 2nd clip, obviously the presence of mind was A grade but it said more to me about his physical strength to be able to break out of that tackle. For a 2nd gamer that's no mean feat! And that willingness to engage physically has certainly gone on to be a feature of Starce's play at his best.

I like it ey. I hope you can do some more of these little focused bits.

'If they could have kicked straight' Sums up too many Lions losses. I was with you in the elim final against the blues. We could have been up by 100 and i still would have been worried, fans have been burned too many times . May be late in the season (came across this looking for more post final content) but glad I found this podcast. Bring on next year!

Patrick, I need the listening public to know that you had a reasonably happy childhood, with lots of love and cuddles. And you did not learn to judge people by their faces, head size, haircuts or bodies from either of your parents!! Also, at the B & F - Joe's speech was hilarious. Haven't seen it online anywhere but it was classic. p.s. I would challenge the statement that Cooney is the worst Brownlow medalist ever, that title definitely belongs to Woewodin!!

As for this season I knew we’d win after we shut down like two successive Geelong clearances and forced a successful Lions clearance through Answerth that went to Charlie but bounced to Ah Chee who slotted it and then a bunch of closing down potential Geelong clearances led to Ashcroft intercepting a hands passes to Hipwood to Rayner to we’re going back baby… All this happened in the final 2:40 of the game and sort of mirrored last years GF where Charlie scored only for the very next ball up to be cleared by Daicos to De Goey for a goal we switched off momentarily and it cost us the game and the exact opposite happened against Geelong and I could see they’d learned their lesson and it showed in the GF too when McLuggage scored. My expectation for the GF is that we’d probably win it because I know we’re a better team than Sydney and going back to the Sydney game earlier in the year we’d figured them out in a really competitive game but we did figure out how to beat them and if you remember that game we dominated them for a large period of the game too, much the same thing happened in this game only Sydney were way less competitive.

I knew in 2002 that we’d go back for 03 because they were still the toughest team in footy, by 04 I was less certain because even in 03 cracks were starting to show like certain players like Lynch, Leppa, White, Voss etc were starting to show their age and the ware and tear of three consecutive successful campaigns and also we’d made the prelims in 1999 so by that stage many of the players were seasoned campaigners even Aker and Black had been around for ages by that stage and the injuries were starting to stack up. I just think there were more older injury carrying players in 04 and we were looking at Port and they were much younger and were the only team throughout the seasons that could realistically challenge us at that time. Essendon were past it, Collingwood were never actually on the level and Geelong were just too young but Port were near the level and at the right age and that’s why they were a menace for us at the time and became a noted rival.

For the McClelland Trophy, I think the only threats now are Fremantle, Hawthorn & Sydney, but as long as the girls keep winning (and their fixture looks promising), only a freak Freo percentage could keep destiny out of their hands. Cheers for the content, what a year to be a Lions supporter!

Tours sort of right: coming home with a wet sail is more about the weather than the sail…technically a waterlogged sail is heavier and less efficient but sails rarely get wet unless there’s some wind about…ie windless weather is usually dry whereas strong winds are usually associated with rain or stormy weather ⛈️ 💨⛵️ 😎

Completely with Patrick on the Kenny/Ginni thing! Even enjoyed Kenny's aeroplane wings. The age thing is an absolute farce. The only thing wrong was if it took the shine off Breust's 300 celebration and Hinkley said he regretted doing it - so copped the fine and move on! On to the game, Ashcroft is so mature with such a great footy brain - thank you Choppers and Mrs Choppers. I also think, that Brandon Starcevich doesn't get enough praise! I believe he has kept us in quite a few games this season. Other under rated players Bez (so reliable), Jaspa Fletcher (pretty sure he has played every game since his debut) so glad to see him kick a goal in a final. Well done Big O! I will always support Eric - his work around the ground has to be acknowledged. Go Lions> Thoroughly enjoy the pod and not just because I get to see & hear my son weekly!! 😜🦁

I am a Melburnian living in Ottawa, Canada and I woke up at 5:30am Saturday to watch the game, and what a game to wake up at the crack dawn for. After going to bed livid from the Grand Final loss last year, I hope that the side can topple the Cats next week.

Don't write them off yet guys. We will probably finish 5th and get a home final in the first week. Other teams in the 8 will not want to meet the Lions. Yes, last Saturday was very disappointing especially as we squandered several getable shots but where there is life there is still hope. Go Lions!

Can someone explain to me exactly what Taryn Thomas did? I know he sent a threatening text etc but did he actually commit any physical harm against anyone? I’m not looking to diminish the severity of harassment of former partners but there’s a part of me that wonders whether the bar has been set higher for a young indigenous man? It’s obviously not an unreasonable question on my part given everything we’ve seen about how AFL management and media treated our indigenous players…

GWS got gifted a couple of goals from dubious frees…we were unlucky not to get a couple at the other end…that said, we left 8 goals on the park from poor goalkicking

Oscar got held, scragged, tackled and generally interfered with…should have had 5-6 frees
