Frankie Lucas has been in England longer than he hasn’t.
He’s only 17 when he wins the National ABA middleweight title in 1972 and 18 when he wins it again in '73 - but if he wants to box at the Olympics or the Commonwealth Games then he’ll need to do it for the island of his birth - St Vincent - because Team GB have no place for him.
Inspired by a true story Going for Gold charts the incredible boxing journey of Frankie Lucas, his hopes and dreams, his loves and hates and ultimately his losses and his redemption.
Set in London we meet the people that steer Frankie and those that live in his heart. But when everything around him fails, who and what does he hang onto? The play asks what it means to belong, how we define who we are and what makes a home.
Frankie’s voice speaks to an entire generation and in doing so allows us all to consider what we are willing to fight for?

We had the pleasure of working with rising star director Philip J Morris at Park Theatre with Jazz Lintott, Frankie Wilson, Martina Laird and writer Lisa Lintott. Now that we are stepping the levels up with the play this session proved invaluable for both the actors and the writer in tightening the script up.

I remember the injustice.. on reading the letter at Moreland avenue at the club.. The injustice.
I remember what happened in chatsworth rd. and the fire.
God bless you Frankie. I’ll never forget you especially in the days of Croydon and the boys club in Moreland avenue.
Rest in peace Frankie Lucas sir. A tough talented fighter never given any backing and mistreated by boxing.
what a fighter but such a humble man, im 57 loved watching him fight great tough come forward fighter shame we had hagler as champion
i meant as a shame Sibson had such a formidable fighter in hagler to win a world title, tough ask, just as colin jones had the same problem with curry after he was robbed in the first fight with milton mccrory @@doublewhopper67

I support 100% your work to bring the story of Frankie Lucus to a much bigger audience at home and abroad. Frankie's story no doubt will resonate with countless Black men either born in the UK or elsewhere in the diaspora. The Windrush generation encouraged to come here to rebuild this country post WWII. The government of England designed and created the Windrush scandal which is a stain on this country's so called proud tradition of 'tolerance'! This is something generations of black people have rejected, resisted and struggled against in the UK. What we want, what we always wanted is parity. Fair and equal treatment that is our human right!
Thanks for sharing this - we hope to take Frankie's story on tour this year and do a London run - we'll keep you informed and hope to see you
