    I didn't think I would like this book. I was right. I didn't like it... I loved it and just had to buy the rest of the series! Now I get to listen to your podcast about it and see what you guys thought :D I'm team Maxon. I am so curious to see how the relationships change in the rest of the series and I really hope Aspen doesn't mess this up for her after he trashed her heart so carelessly (even if he thought he was doing it for the right reasons). I think she's an unintentional heroine. She makes Maxon realize that his people are suffering, and because of this he makes changes to help the lower castes. She protects her maids. She empowers the other ladies in the competition to help them feel uplifted and confident. She does these things with no agenda. I'm curious about why they can't have history text books. I hope they explain that in a future book. I fast-forwarded my 5 minutes, hope I didn't miss too much hahaha. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! They made the book into a show/movie?!?

    I'm a rebel, and I've only read the last book of the series, so to hear the beginning of the story line really makes me want to read the whole thing. But why are they so long??? And I love that you still call Matt "Biggs", that made me smile so big.

    I thought it was interesting that in so many stories about immortality the author tries in vain to convince you that you wouldn't really want to be a super powerful immortal, and it always comes across as so lame, because of course you would. Only Smeyer somehow managed to succeed where others failed, because she's saying that if you managed to break through the limits of the human condition you would literally no longer be human; in fact you would become a psychopath who has no empathy towards other humans because you're not one of them anymore. You would think of them from a purely utilitarian point of view, like we do with farm animals, and paradoxically you would become like a wild animal who lives to feed and little else - which is what most vampires are in her novels, she just focuses on those honorable exceptions like the Cullens. It was also interesting that she wrote a story where she depicts the Quileute as the only truly superior people on Earth, morally pure and heroic, with the ability to transform into the spirit animal of their nation to protect their land... while white people she chose to depict as literal blood sucking wild animals who have lost their human souls. Don't you think that her stance against the racist neo-colonialism of America is a big part of why in America and elsewhere she has been so reviled by those who pretend she is a bad author, and a big reason why her books have been so consistently banned from libraries and burned at the stake? I imagine that you, as readers of her novels, defend her from the fascists who literally burn her books and that you set the record straight for those who haven't yet read her novels... right?

    That Anna is an unreliable narrator just because she's 1)a 13 year old and 2) emotional...is beyond me. Those are unreasonable grounds, on which, to decide that she's an unreliable narrator.

    • @bookbesties8820
      @bookbesties8820 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the feedback, Palesa. I don't think we are basing this exclusively on her age. It's more her emotional state, because she is clearly hiding something. What that is readers won't find out until later in the story. But, we stand by the notion that she is an unreliable character.
