The reason he didn't make it further in his career was because the people who heard him couldn't comprehend the verbal slaughter he articulated. You have to remember... the reason the music industry gave y'all mumbled rap was the fact that the majority of society was too dumb down to actually understand what was being said by actual lyricists. Even now, some people have a hard time to figure out what he is saying ... only the real hip-hop heads know the miracle lyrical rhyme patterns. Most of Corey's lines go over people's heads. Why do you think rappers like Chris Rivers aren't more relevant? People just can't comprehend the high-level vocabulary being used. You have to blame society for being slow and catering to beats and a vibe than actual lyrics. Tupac said it best ... Listen to the words people say in their lyrics, and tell me, if that's some real shit, if that's real to you, you know what I mean. Listen to what they saying, don't just bob your head to the beat, peep the game, and listen to what I'm saying.
