I worked at discount tire and the patch repair process is nearly identical. Discount tire has more steps because the patch and plug are two separate items at discount tire.

I do it a very similar way but use 2 coats of the cement and a dab on the leading edge of the plug. The product I use last is called security coat

That is the proper way to do it, but most tire shops don't do it that way. Additionally, the tire should be rebalanced.
