A Windy Wild Camp In An Iron Age Hill Fort
Great video and some beautiful scenery, especially the waterfalls! I’m new to hiking and now I can see why walking poles are so popular, especially when the ground is as wet and slippy as it was when you did this walk. Your dates are a little bit out for Storm Arwen though, it was November 2021 (during the Covid years!). Thanks for making the video 👍🏻
@@tonyf68 thanks for watching and commenting Tony. Poles are definitely a game changer although I try to only use them when it’s icy or snowy for stability 👍
Great camp, classic Cheviot wild camping. Spectacular view of that 🌈 I’ve never been lucky enough to see such a spectacular Milky Way. Great video 👍👍
@@grahamswildcamping thanks Graham, it was my second time but this one was the best. We were just lucky with the conditions
Hi Dave Cracking camp with cracking skys We are lucky having the Cheviots so close, and our other locations we use Cheers Adrian
@@northumberlandmountainhopper thanks Adrian. The forecast was dire but we went anyway and it paid off, perfect sunset, stars and sunrise 👍
Davy just watched your latest one just wish I could knock a few years off and join you all. Ronnie
@@ronniedavidson cheers Ronnie, apart from the wind it was perfect. Best view of the Milky Way ever ✨
@@cheviotoutdoors morning Dave it certainly looked fantastic
@@ronniedavidson cheers Ronnie, by the way nobody has claimed that tripod yet 👍

@@jimmy.mccutcheon.1961 cheers Jimmy, it was a really good camp
We pitched up there in the trees a little further along than you. Turned out to be a canny pitch. Was windy for us on the hill but the main reason we moved from the hill was because of the cow 💩 it was covered.
@@SarahLee220 no sign of cows on Saturday, they must have mooved on 😂 It’s a lovely spot. Thanks for watching.
@@cheviotoutdoors yeah they had definitely mooved 😂 on as there wasn’t a clean space on that hill. Good video.
@@SarahLee220 thank you 🙏
Great to meet you the other night mate. Was certainly a windy one in the open. See you next time. Keep the content coming.
@@harrythehikerne good to meet you too Mark. Was a great night. That wind was never going to trouble your Hilly 🏕️
Bleak and windy again...been nothing but sunny days here...too many to be honest! keep trekking!
@@iansands3673 warm and sunny here today, shame the weekend weather was so rubbish. Haven’t had a warm camp this year 😂
Amazing for your video of A stormy night in my Snugpak Scorpion 2. I love for your video and thanks for sharing.🥰
Hi Dave, I love that hill, (I always walk up that way it’s a hard slog for sure)and the fort on the adjacent hill, I don’t say locations now, if you know you know lol, but it was not this hill I bailed on, I see the old tree is still there, probably too rotten to perch on now, Great winter spot you found Cheers Adrian
@@northumberlandmountainhopper yeah, I’ll definitely be back there if I’m up that way in bad weather. Thanks for watching 👍
Cracking video Dave looked like a nice walk up definitely the right decision to camp in the trees mate could you get up there on a bike atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
@@LundysWildcampBushcraft cheers Jimmy mate. To go up on a bike you would need to go up the way we walked down as there was a lot of off road on the way up. It’s steep but nothing your bike can’t handle 👍
@@cheviotoutdoors nice one Dave appreciate that I'll check the maps 👍
I’ll see if I can send the route tonight 👍
@@cheviotoutdoors nice one dave 👍
Gluten for punishment with that route - can follow Valley of Doom a little further and it's easier on the legs. Regardless looked a great camp and well worth pitching out of the wind. ATB Steven
@@thegeordiewildcamper cheers mate, it was certainly a tough climb up with 23kg in my pack. Built up my appetite though. Hope you’re back out soon 🏕️

@@AlbertOutdoorsUK thanks for watching. I’d highly recommend a visit 👍
@@cheviotoutdoors I’m fairly new to wild camping, but I enjoy every aspect of it and I really appreciate people like yourselves who take the time and make the effort to share their adventures on TH-cam, and inspire other people to get out. Thanks again, I love to see these old hill forts in the Cheviot hills, and your drone footage really helps to show them off 👍
@@AlbertOutdoorsUK thanks for the comments. Can’t beat a good wild camp. I always get the best nights sleep ever when I’m in a freezing cold tent 👍
I'm going to have to get myself up there!! ⛰️ Love the Heather this time of year Love the trashcan idea on the bag like Cracking night for you all 🙌

Have you been to the Shivering Stone near Cushat Law? Saw it on old map.
@@jenniferpayne250 I haven’t actually heard of it but I’ve maybe passed it as I’ve been up there lots of times
@@cheviotoutdoors sorry it's just sw of Bloody Bush Edge on 1900' contour. Lots of boundary stones heading north too. Lots leading up to Cushat Law from south. Map was printed 1954. It"s 1:25 000 scale. Really enjoy yr walks in Cheviots.
@@jenniferpayne250 thank you Jennifer and thanks for watching. I’ve definitely seen the boundary stones off to the side of the path on the fence line. They’re engraved with initials but can’t remember what they are.
Have you experienced any of the leaking this tent is infamous for?
@@matthijstermeer611 hi, I have only used this tent a few times and never in bad weather as far as I can remember. I have seen some of the videos about the leaking but I haven’t experienced it yet 🤞🏼
@@cheviotoutdoors So far, so good. I think I'll take my chances taking it on a bicycle trip in The Netherlands. I'll bring some seam seal, though. By the way, your tent may or may not be of a newer generation. Mine (actually, a friend's) might be as well, it was bought two or three years ago. I seem to recall most complaints were in 2018/19. Well, for whatever that is worth...
@@matthijstermeer611 I’ve had mine a good few years so it’s likely to be an older one. My cousin has the two person version and he’s had no issues and has been out in bad weather with it. Enjoy your trip to the Netherlands and good luck with the tent. Don’t pitch it too tight as I had one of the small tabs fail on me once. I’ve got a video of the fail on my channel.
@@cheviotoutdoors Good advice, thank you. I'll pay it some extra heed. I am in The Netherlands by default, being a Dutchman...😁Going to make a trip up north (I'm in the west), maybe even a round-trip of sorts.
@@matthijstermeer611 enjoy your trip. I hope the weather is good to you 🏕️

Looks like a great walk Dave. You did better than I did on my first drone flight. Crashed and burned!!
@@pawlett1 lol, the drone is hard work for an old bloke like me, too much going on and too much scope for error 😂

Great video. Do you have a gpx or route map at all? I was at Davidsons Linn last week and the track from there to the border ridge was still completely blocked.
@@kenS2876 thanks for watching and thanks for confirming my suspicions that the Davidson’s Linn track is still blocked. Try this link and it should show you the route www.outdooractive.com/en/r/130144348?

Looks like it's melted, probably flapped against the stove?
