CareersTalks with Tamer
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ธ.ค. 2022
I landed Data Analytics jobs at Amazon, TikTok, and Accenture in London without studying in the UK. Subscribe for help with your career!
Hi, I'm Tamer, a Data Analyst at TikTok. I graduated from NYU with a major in Economics and a minor in Computer Science.
I spent considerable time figuring out what field I wanted to work in and securing jobs at top tech firms in London as an international graduate who didn't study in the UK. That's why I created the CareerTalks TH-cam Channel, to help students in my position :)
Channel's mission:
1- Provide career insights by featuring experienced international and minority professionals from various fields, who discuss their job experiences, career paths, and workplaces.
2- Assist international students in securing jobs in London by sharing success stories and career strategies from fellow international professionals who have achieved this.
If you have any feedback, please leave it in the comments section :)

How does this different from an industry group process?
How different is this from ECM process, DCM process, LevFin, RX process?
Is cracking the coding interview still worth it though? Planning to buy it
Yes
Yes, l would say it is still a valuable resource for coding interview preparation. The book's comprehensive coverage of data structures, algorithms, and interview tips remains relevant. However, it's recommended to supplement it with additional resources for system design, as this area has become increasingly important in technical interviews.
We appreciate your engagement with the channel @spy_699. Let us know what videos you would be interested to see in the future!
I have it on my shelf, I would look for something more up to date.

Video Editing is too low 👎👎👎👎 Edit the video in a good style. Add nice b-roll animation when you are speaking or explaining something. This will increase visualization. Put proper subtitles, effects, transitions, and colors in the video. Insert the B-Roll (footage and animation) very well because it is absolutely low in your video. Do all this and then see how the video doesn't turn out good. 🍅
You have a great podcast, with great guests and discussions but it gets absolutely ruined by the "mhm's" and the 1-word comments
thanks for the feedback. I try to actively lesson 😉
So basically
I’m very interested to know about his time at NYUAD. Does he consider it a top school for investment banking? And what about the ib and pe market in the UAE?
Hi Amine, thanks for your question! I really enjoyed making the video. As someone who went to NYU Abu Dhabi and then worked in the UAE's finance sector, I can give you some insights. 1. NYUAD for Investment Banking: NYUAD doesn't have a dedicated finance program, but their Economics major with a Finance track can be a great springboard. It offers courses like accounting, foundation of financial markets and corporate finance, crucial for investment banking. The NYU Advantage: - Study Abroad at Stern: A huge advantage is the chance to study abroad at NYU's Stern School of Business in New York. Stern is a top dog for investment banking recruitment, and leveraging their resources during your semester there is key. Participate in student groups like the Investment Banking Club and attend career fairs specifically for finance. - Strong Alumni Network: NYUAD has a growing alumni network in investment banking, both in Dubai and London. This network can provide valuable mentorship and connections as you enter the job market. Remember: Getting into investment banking ultimately depends on your individual efforts. The earlier you intern in finance, the better prepared you'll be. NYUAD provides the resources, but your dedication and hustle will make the difference. 2. Investment Banking & Private Equity in the UAE: The UAE's financial market is thriving, but it's still smaller compared to heavyweights like New York or London. Here's a breakdown of the key aspects: - Market Growth: The UAE's financial sector is on the rise, with Dubai acting as the regional hub. - Deal Focus: You'll find a strong focus on infrastructure, energy, and real estate deals. - Deal Size: Deals tend to be smaller in scale compared to major financial centers. Opportunities & Growth: - Experienced Talent in Demand: The market has a strong appetite for highly experienced professionals (Director-level and above). - Early/Mid-Career: Training opportunities for junior to mid-level professionals might be limited compared to established financial centers. - Career Progression: Career growth can be good, but competition is fierce. Be prepared to work hard and stand out. Long Hours: - Expect to work long hours, similar to what's typical in major financial centers globally. Overall: NYUAD can be a great launching pad for a career in investment banking, especially if you take advantage of the study abroad program at Stern and network actively. The UAE's financial market offers exciting opportunities, but with a focus on experienced professionals. It's a competitive landscape, so be prepared to put in the hard work.
@@careerstalks thanks a lot for this info! I truly appreciate it. (It’s always good to see people trying to help these days) I am old (mid 20s), I have applied to their new MBA program, my aim is to get into ib or in a swf in the region. I think it’s achievable, right? Thanks again for making the effort to reply.
@@Amine-fo2qwmid 20s is not old hahaha :) Yes defintelty achievable several friends and alumni have managed to break into IB/PE or a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) after doing their bachelors in NYUAD. Best of luck in your journey!!
@@careerstalks 😂😂. Thanks a lot for your message!
Great resource! Thanks for the information
Is math and finance degree for private equity or investment banking
A double degree in math and finance is highly relevant and beneficial to both private equity (PE) and investment banking (IB). However, its application and value can slightly vary between the two fields: Investment Banking (IB): The combination of finance and math provides a strong foundation for dealing with complex financial models, valuations, and transactions, which are core to IB roles. The quantitative skills from a math degree enhance one's ability to perform detailed financial analysis and modeling, crucial for mergers, acquisitions, and public offerings. Private Equity (PE): While PE also values the financial analysis and modeling skills that a finance degree offers, the math aspect strengthens one's ability to perform quantitative due diligence, manage portfolio risks, and develop sophisticated models for long-term investment strategies. In Summary: - For Investment Banking, the math skills add a significant edge to the traditional finance skills, particularly in roles requiring complex quantitative analysis. - In Private Equity, the combination is beneficial for analyzing investments, modeling financial returns under various scenarios, and risk management. Both sectors highly value the analytical rigor and problem-solving skills that a dual background in math and finance provides. The choice between PE and IB may ultimately come down to personal preference regarding the type of deals, investment strategies, and the balance between quantitative analysis and client interaction one prefers.
