Age of Exploring
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 เม.ย. 2018
I'm Mark Williamson. Up until recently, I aggregated, collated, and disseminated biological information to the post pubescent mind - I taught high school biology. Now I've started the next adventure in life: exploring the world available to me. I like to travel differently.
I have walked across Spain, ridden my bicycle across the U.S. (that did NOT go well), and now I'm exploring on a 2018 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sport with DCT. Her name is mATAS and she takes me where I need to go to experience new people, places, and things.
I don't believe that there is one correct way to explore the world and I am only bringing you my experiences, what I've learned, and what works for me. You do you.
Be great. Do good. Go out and explore.

I'm Back - not that anyone noticed I was gone!
It's been a while since I posted a video and I apologize for that. I'm headed to Alaska and discuss what has happened and what my goals are for the channel in the future. Hopefully, you're willing to come along for the ride.

I rode to Morro Bay, CA in late March and camped for three nights. The first day, I traveled to Mission San Antonio de Padua; the third mission established by Father Junipero Serra. Howdy from east Tennessee!! Glad you're ok Mark. I was concerned about you when you stopped posting. Always enjoyed your videos. Thanks in advence for sharing your adventues.
This is that guy from Illinois, I definitely do care. You have a lot of things to still do while you can and you have no obligation to make TH-cam videos for us. Just want you to enjoy your adventures in your own way. I still love to see the videos. And long after you are gone, I would love to still show them to people (if I have kids show them too) about how I got to know this cool guy!
I care, Mark! Glad to see you back!
Welcome back. One of our favourite rides. Duffy lake.
Hah, we do indeed.
It’s about time!!! ❤
Superb👌👌👌👌
Thank you so much for the nice review of our museum. Very informative and shows what all it there.
It is one of the best small, community museums I've visited.
I live in the border between wrightwood and phelan on the east side of the fault and I wonder how it would effect my home if a 8.2 hit and the epicenter was in wrightwood town....scary as they say we are due for the "BIG ONE"
One of the reasons I moved out of SoCal. That and the lack of water that WILL happen at some point. 😊
Actually that’s Bobcat Fire 2020
Thank you for the information. 😊
Thanks for video :-) How did these pegs work for you? Hold up well? Rattle too much and drive you crazy? Stay tight? I'm looking for a good set for my twin, and your install so far has me shopping for Altrider pegs. I have a tricolor twin also. Man they look sharp ehhhh! Even in Canada, lol.
Sorry for the delay in my reply. They are great. No rattling and they stay tight on the bars. I did move them to a more comfortable location (back about 6") and I use them more. The ONLY complaint I had is that they do seem to freeze in position if they are not used regularly. But I think ALT Rider fixed that with a rubber plug type of recall (it was free). If I lube them once in a while they go up and down with a kick of my boot.
@ageofexploring Nice! Thank you for the info. I hit a deer this last year, but thankfully didn't go down. Got the right side all repaired and back to new, and looking at these pegs for this winters project. Thanks again, cheers :-)
not my fault.
Very enjoyable! Keep it up!
Enjoyed that mate, thanks for the ride 👍 Mark,North West Essex,England.
Why would anyone live right on or by a fault line?
Why would they live on the East Coast where getting hit with a hurricane is so much more eventual than an EQ at your particular area? Some of those places are beautiful. That said, I wouldn't LOL
Amazing how it pulverizes rock into dust!! Love geology!!!
Hey Mark, Just checking on you. It's been a while. Hope all is well! I always enjoyed your videos. You always showed really cool stuff.
I'm good. I just put out a video to kinda explain where I've been. (10/7/24)
I live in the Commie State of NJ n ya should Never go into Newark it's a cesspool ...... 1/3 of the people don't have insurance or proper paperwork and don't know how to drive.... Good thing ya didn't get shot or jacked.. be well.
It's not a place I plan to return to soon. 😂
So California builds a town on the Fault ?? And in 2021 their still locked down ?? lol..... be well.
The fault does not undercut PS. It is about 4-6 miles north and undercuts the city of Desert Hot Springs. It goes undneath some folks living rooms. To anyone watching this, please refer to usgs.gov. I love the subject, but facts are more important.
I appreciate the information. I was trying to give a reference as to the vicinity. But thank you.
Should gone to visit your cousin 90 miles away.
Way to go Mark! You made another great video! Thanks for sharing this! Look forward to next year already!
Super AWESOME, thanks for taking us along.
Great video. So happy to connect. See you next year.
I just found your channel toda, and I'm having a brilliant time watching your videos while waiting for my flight at Stansted airport. I love abandoned buildings and similar stuff. One cool place I stoped at was the abandoned Olympic stadium in Sarajevo. The bobsleigh track there was very cool to see with loads of wicked graffiti. It's in one of my videos.
You've got a great channel! I think I saw the Sarajevo video. Thank you!!
@ageofexploring cheers buddy 👍
Excellent video . . . But it would've been better if it had more footage of me in it. Just kidding, LOL. RMR is a great little gathering put on and attended by an amazing group of people, always a highlight, thank you for documenting it and sharing what an excellent little event that it is.
I'm a huge fan of Amanda and have been a patron for a couple of years so I would absolutely love to attend Rocky Mountain Roll.... but there is the not insubstantial issue of 4,500 miles of land and sea, so I will continue to watch the video's you and she make and do my visitin vicariously. On the flip side, there is a similar event in the UK called the Overlander Winter Warmer, it's a max of 120 people and is held early in February (mid winter). I already have my ticket.
4,500 miles of land? No problem. Add sea? Problem. 😂 Amanda is an amazing human being. Unselfish and willing to spend time to share ideas & knowledge.
Awesome video showcasing RMR Mark. I had such a great time this year and looking forward to next.
Oh my, you posted me. I don’t think I was too dorky. I really enjoyed seeing you again. Hope to be there next year on the wing. Take care and ride it like you stole it!
Found you via Magpie...
Great video, thanks for sharing
Great video. I hope to return next year. So cool to meet like minded people.
AWWW I loved this, thank you so much Mark 💖
Her 👆
Finest kind. ❤️
Nice video Mark! I’m planning my return to RMtnR now with more camping than this last year. I really enjoyed the laid back event!
Mark!!! Love following your adventures! Keep up the great work.
Kyle!! Hope you are doing well!!
I love pulling an atlas out and following your trips! 👍🏻👍🏻
You passed through my back Yard Mark. Well close to it. I'm a couple of hours from Cherokee & Maggie Valley. There's not many roads in the area that I've not been on. You missed a gem by not visiting Wheels Through Time motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley. I highly recommend it. If you get back this way I'd be happy to give you the grand tour. As always, thanks for sharing.
Hate the loose wiggle.
My backyard.....🙂😁🤣😂👍....we shake 24 hrs/ day, 7 days/ wk....little ones 1- 2...sometimes when you're sleeping, it feels like you're in a hammock and someone's rocking you gently.....midwest has tornadoes, East and SE have hurricanes....we have Earthquakes....take your pick.....we get used to it....but at least it's dry.....🙂😁😂🤣👍
Do you really feel that many small quakes? If so, I was NOT aware of that!
😁
Nice! I ate at Sids on my return home from Rocky Mountain Roll. An excellent meal!!!
I assume that you made it home safe. Did you get the message I sent you?
@@ageofexploring can’t find any messages from you. Sent one on IG
That museum looks pretty cool! I love stuff like that. Thanks for taking us along.
My pleasure. It was great meeting you at RMR!
Mufflerman was made by my father Bill Swan along with many other iconic fiberglass statues which are in a short Amazon ebook for only 14.99 called "The man behind the mufflerman ".
Hey Mark! Great to meet you at RMR. I’ve only ever once ridden in snow and it was over a pass in AZ. Nothing like what you experienced. Be safe ride safe. 👊🏍
I was happy to see another AT. I just don’t see that many of them.
Another informative video! Keep it up!
Thank you.
Good morning Mark! Nice video. The snow story part made me laugh again. Glad to see you at RMR again.
The snow storm was one of those “I was scared to death, but I am proud that I did it!” experiences.
That snow storm looked crazy. Glad you made it safe w a story to boot.
It was a ride that I am proud of, but don’t want to repeat.
hi! amazing , see u around.guy. =))
Thank you.
Thats crazy, easy mistake to make. Glad you and the AT are going to be ok.
I suffered more than the bike! I really don’t think there was a scratch on it except for the hand guard which is no big deal. I know I scraped my helmet on the pavement, but I don’t think I hit my head. The GoPro lost the lens protector and my Sena 10C Pro took a hit that cause it to fail later in the trip.
Glad you are ok! I don’t like those curbs as the can be very difficult to see. Ride safe and I hope the rest of the trip goes well!
It made me MUCH more aware of curbs and other “road furniture” on the rest of my trip.
Glad you're ok. That could have been a lot worse. Why in the world would you put a 2 inch curb between lanes of traffic to start with and then make it worse by camouflaging it? I'm totally confused? I'm like AT, I've saw full size curbing used to separate lanes but it was painted yellow to make it stand out. I'm going to have to do some research on that one. I know some people I can contact that does that type of work. I'll let you know what I find out. I'm thankful you weren't seriously hurt.
I am in the process of letting the city know of the problem. I have no problem with a curb separating lanes, but, yes, MAKE IT STAND OUT!! I’m ok and look forward to finding out what you learn.
Hey Mark, Sorry it's taken me so long to get this to you. Here is a link for a traffic manual that may be of help to you. The second link is the home page. mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/kno_2009r1r2.htm mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/index.htm I have a close Buddy that is a traffic planner and he hooked me up with this. I showed him your video and it upset him greatly because of such a dangerous thing. Again, sorry it's taken me so long to get it to you. I've been working on my V-Strom getting ready for a loop trip from Tennessee into Northern Pennsylvania visiting as many of the major Civil War Battle Grounds and Museums as I can. Plus whatever else I find interesting along the way. If this link doesn't work let me know and I'll try again. I couldn't get a click and go link to paste into this. So you'll have to do a copy and paste it into your browser. As always thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Safe Journeys Joseph
