AstroAF - M 16 - Pillars Of Creation Full Pixinsight Processing | Eagle Nebula
In this video: Thank you to all of my members, supporters, and those of you who have used my affiliate links! Because of you I am able to keep creating!! I run through an M 16 - Pillars of Creation Full Pixinsight Processing. While I'm nowhere near a Pixinsight expert, in fact I've been using it for only about 2.5 months, I'm starting to get around in it fairly decent. I go through my entire workflow on the Messier 16 Eagle Nebula. I accumulated 32.5 hours of HaLRGB subframes over the past few weeks. I go through a quick Blink, Fast Batch PreProcessing, process the images for linear fit, combine, and work through the process of star removal, histogram stretch, color saturation, star recombine, and finishing touches, I do hope you enjoy this video, if so I hope you will leave a like and subscribe if you aren't already. What size screen do you have? Could this be done on only a MacBook Pro 14” screen? Does PixInsight have documentation that explains the stacking process? I only got as far as background extraction and was totally lost. Can you recommend several sources for learning how to use PixInsight? I’d like to see if I can understand PixInsight better before even trying out the free testing period. Does having Siril workflow experience get in the way of learning PixInsight? Thanks.

      @@KJRitch Hi KJ! I’m running on a MacBook Air M2 with 13” screen. PI has extensive documentation but I tend to check the forums first as the team posts updated information there. In this case I used Fast Batch Preprocessing. A quick google for Pixinsight Fast Batch Preprocessing will get you there. I linked to 3 in the video description that have helped me a lot. Adam Block’s channel is golden (AdamBlock). The official Pixinsight channel has an entire playlist of training videos that I’ve gone through. Believe me when I say I’ve been totally lost in PI, it is a very comprehensive piece of software. I tend to try and break things into workflow chunks and research on the specific steps. Check out the link to Chad’s channel in the description, Easy Astro Images. Super helpful stuff for PI. I think Siril has helped me in PI a great deal, I still use Siril. I love both applications. I think if anything, I’ve taken the outline of my Siril workflow and am basically doing the same steps in PI. I’m still adapting but getting along and making progress. I would suggest getting your data together for a couple projects so you’re not burning your PI trial license waiting for data (mine is now available too on my Discord). Then, get the 45 day trial and jump in. Cheers! Doug

    Did you purchase directly from this Chinese company? I notice there are a couple of US distributors, one in California and another in NY. Price is $299 from the NY company. I notice the Pegasus Astro Pocket Powerbox Advance Gen 2, which show $324 at astroagena seems a similar device. The Wanderer has one addition USB2 port. I believe the Pegasus monitors and automatically controls dew heater power. I don't own a power device. What was the main advantage for choosing the Wanderer over other power boxes? Have you found in your research if you can regulate the power to the Celestron dew heater ring your distortion issues will be resolved? Thanks

    • @AstroAF
      @AstroAF 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@KJRitch Hi, Thanks for watching and your comment! Yes, I purchased directly from Wanderer Astro. Indeed, I saw that and I’m happy to see they have retailers in the US. I think I was predominantly motivated by budget and feature set. I’ve discussed with others about the Pegasus and as I understand, it does not have the individual switching as does the Wanderer. I haven’t researched the Pegasus specifically around that. I looked over to Wanderer and ended up not looking back because the price and features were a good match for me and my rig. Yes, indeed, I will be able to regulate the Celestron Dew Heater. I discussed this specifically with Wanderer. I will not be able to use the Celestron thermistor port, it is proprietary, but I will be mounting the Wanderer probe onto the dew ring in order to monitor temperature. Cheers! Doug

    Hi Doug, this is just what I want, but at $300 is to too much. The current electronics and programing could sell for $100-$150 unit. I do understand that they may only sell 100-500 units. I think when more of these units become more competition will bring down the selling price.

    Good thing a spare belt was supplied. Hopefully the spare will last longer and the new design has a more "lifetime" duration. I finally got reimbursed by Astro Oasis for shipping back their defective autofocuser. After a couple of emails to them weren't replied, I thought I'd have to eat the $30 shipping cost. But then Frank got in touch with me, asking if I could try to let them know what type of bearing Celestron uses to support the focus knob in my C8. I was able to send them a few photos and he was able to get some information on the bearing from the photos. In the email I asked Frank to look into the reimbursement and he came through and my PayPal was credited. I'm hoping Astro Oasis will get a US dealership arrangement that can carry spare parts and improve their warranty returns process.

      @@KJRitch Yeah, really pleased. I think it’s the only wear and tear component of the filter wheel. Frank said the new belts have been improved and they are continuing to work on even more improvements. My sample was one of the first in the US, if not the first, so it has been a process of letting them know how things are working and providing feedback. I’ve seen guys post videos of them taping their ZWO belts back together. Thinking maybe they don’t provide replacements, not sure. I found the maintenance pretty simple and straight forward. Just fiddly. I’m glad you got your reimbursement. I had no doubt you would. Things do take a bit more time working from US to China but they always treat me like family. That’s nice you sent them the photos, I’m sure that helped them a lot! Cheers! Doug

    Thanks Doug, it's very common in China for a company like Optlong to have say 2 grades, A grade sold with there name and closet specs and then B grade is sold to other private label company's like Sky Guider. Very common business, but Allen testing each filter is an added feature. But really until Cuiv started testing filters as we really expected a 7NM to be that, but so many filter company's just making and selling with really no quality control that Allen is doing... It's like Intel chips, they make say 1 CPU chip batch and then testing each CPU and some run faster and some run slower and are sold under that. So we need to be more aware what we buy so this will cause company's sell us what specs we pay for...

    • @AstroAF
      @AstroAF หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@whatmattersmost6725 Hi! I don’t doubt that happens. I have inquired about this with the major vendors and was told that if an item is B-Grade then it is required by the companies, like Optolong that we are familiar with, that either the item be sold as B-Stock or destroyed. I believe the vendors then need to go through an RMA process should they elect to destroy. I would imagine they may have some tolerance for what is considered in-spec but don’t know what that would be. However, the vendors that have had Optolong B-grade have sold them as Optolong. I would find it surprising (and revealing) if Optolong sells sub-standard filters for its licensed products that are re-branded. You’d think this would be a more legitimate contract. I think it is worthy of inquiry though. Filters being manufactured out of spec is obviously something that is not new, Alan found a need for it and was why he purchased his spectrometer at that time. When he was first dealing with Optolong directly, his agreement included disclosed specs on every filter received from Optolong. Once he no longer worked directly with Optolong and began working with StarGuider, they did not provide specs and Alan took it upon himself to provide this QC step to ensure the actual specs were included. I think that is what makes him unique and I appreciate that. Cheers! Doug

    Just having the raw data is no value to me. Why doesn’t he provide an analysis like you created? That would be the best values he could offer. It’s hard to believe that I never had to create a spreadsheet during my working career so I never learned how to use a spreadsheet. I have no clue how to create the formulas in your spreadsheet. It sounds like he’s getting Optolong filters that don’t quite pass Optolong’s quality and rather than scrap them they resell to other companies. I imagine you can’t tell the difference between 7nm or 8nm so why not save money. Having to mess with so many filters is no attractive to me. I’m sticking to OCS because I don’t have the time to take multiple data frames for L, R, G, B, Ha, OIII etc. I will experiment with OCS and a duo band filter.

    • @AstroAF
      @AstroAF หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KJRitch he provided me the spectrometry on the colored graph like everyone else other filter company has on their website, as if every filter they ship is exactly the same spec… not the case. If you’ve watched Cuive’s videos where he is testing filter spec you’ll know what I mean. I’m sure that for the $1000/filter manufacturers you are going to get in-spec filters. I don’t think that is always the case with the standard consumer market filters. You are incorrect, It isn’t that he’s buying B-Stock, it is pretty typical. You just don’t know cause you’ve taken the manufacturers word and not had your filters tested to see if they are in spec. Then there’s the question of what tolerance are you willing to accept. In my case, I think I’m perfectly happy with an 8nm filter, knowing in advance I was buying an 8nm filter. I’m looking forward to testing it out in a session, that will determine if I’m happy with it or not. Cheers! Doug
