I need this video to go viral bc ur so right
There is no way that Glinda is a liberal on any level, because she spends the second half of the play cozying up to FASCISTS. Equating Joe and Kamala with the Wizard and Madame Morrible is utterly absurd
I'm... always astounded by how some people can see exactly what they're doing to other people and turn around to claim they're the victim.
This show is literally about a woman who stands up to fascism, but lacks the community support to stand a chance or make a difference, and therefore has everyone turned against her via propaganda...
This video feels like it was made for my autistic ass specifically 🤣
Beautiful cover ;O!!!
Thanks for this video. A lot of people are making similar content and I am glad because it makes it easier for me to not make content that would try to be positive but would end up ending in a rant and I don't feel like that will help anyone other than myself and even that would just be momentary.
It's going to be a rough 4 years but we'll just have to do our best to fight for our rights and the rights of other Americans. Silver lining, if Trump doesn't completely ruin everything, we'll never him particularly ever again.
Glinda is a deplorable liberal, able to overlook genocide for money and power. Elphaba is a leftist and Cheney is the Wizard.
Dang! I missed the stream. I was playing Metaphor Refantazio.
Keep this up, you will hit gold. Just a matter of when.
My dream house also includes dinosaur gene sequencing equipment!
I’m going with “Not dead” as Great.
Loved the video!!
Thanks for the fun video. I really look forward to your content. Keep keeping it real.
LMFAO SEPPHIE GDI
I wish I had caught this live. Time to hit that notification bell 😂 good stream
Miss her
Conservatives have a victim complex that causes them to get upset at anything, while also calling anyone who gets upset for literally any reason a "snowflake" (they also do a lot of projecting, erasure, and role reversal as well). Since many conservatives are also christian, victimhood, aka persecution, is built into the religion. So, by erasing why Doctor Dillamond is being targeted for who he is (identity politics), he can then project himself into the role (reversal), and identify with the character's victimhood. Literally, he is being targeted, therefore I am being targeted. It's easy to do when one jettisons context. It's one thing to be able to disassociate fiction from reality and still understand metaphor and allegory, but quite another to overlay reality with fiction, aka fantasy. Taking the wayback machine back to the pre-cancel culture era, at the leading edge of the Satanic Panic of the '80s, one of the right's attempt to cancel fantasy games (D&D) was the movie Monsters and Mazes, starring Tom Hanks. In it, his character can't separate fantasy from reality and literally sees a thug with a knife as a dragon. In the movie, it was portrayed as a mental construct to visually overwriting reality. In this instance, the "reviewer" is using an abstract construct to overwrite reality. When things aren't going their (conservative's) way, it's victimhood, but the victimhood of "them" is reframed as righteous retribution, thus honorable, making any act, no matter how abhorrent justifiable.
I think one of the greatest challenges to dissecting conservative thought is the amount of doublespeak, dogwhistles, and knowing winks that are laced in any form of open, accessible form of communication they use. They understand the core principles of their worldview are actually quite odious so they always present their ideas in a very dubious way as to not scare off any potential new converts. One glaring example, of which there are many, is the concept of "religious liberty". Superficially, the term certainly seems in line with things like the Establishment Clause in the United States Constitution, but its real-life application is used to only promote Christianity and force it onto everyone else. That being said, I do not believe all conservatives are as media illiterate as we might think. Rather, they are intentionally misinterpreting media as a means to force an agenda, and win converts to their blatantly stupid ideas.
Well, I agree with her, and all, and what an absolute smoke show. I love the glasses. Keep up the good work!
you’re conflating being progressive with being anti White.
i have a friend named Persephone. thought she was the only one. nice name
Clean your room girl, dayum
All this video proves to me is that both the left and right equally need to chill TF out and stop trying so hard to be liked. It always goes both ways and neither side of things are actually using their brains. It doesn’t matter who does it more or less. It happens and needs to stop. The true reality of society is that progressives or left leaning people do run most things right now. If they didn’t you wouldn’t see so much of the things you do. We all know conservatives would tamp down pride and such. That isn’t actually really happening anywhere. I’m looking at a trans flag in an elementary school as I type this. That’s not conservatives doing that. Conservatives are being targeted and hated. All you have to do is mention that you’re right leaning and you get eye rolls at best. Fox News and MSNBC are equal just on opposite sides. Both equally over the top. CNN is alright as of late. This article is way over the top, but conservatives are being silenced as well. None of this seems to be based on logic over feelings. If you can say conservatives are crying about nothing then you need to leave your own bubbles. There is zero freedom of speech on the left side of things. If you think people should be persecuted for any speech that doesn’t incite violence then you don’t believe in free speech. Individual words aren’t violence.
Words are never violence, but they can be heinous, vile, and hateful; and they can certainly incite violence. I will readily admit that I'm not a free speech absolutist, because I don't believe people should be able to yell "fire!" in a crowded theatre with no repercussions. Nevertheless, I do not think the government has any business policing speech unless it's demonstrably harmful (such as the theatre example). That said, I do absolutely believe that individuals should suffer appropriate social repercussions for heinous, vile, and hateful speech. You can absolutely say whatever you want, but you can't make me like it. Hope this makes my perspective clearer! :)
@@xsepphie I appreciate what you said. I personally have a very hard time not being an absolutist with speech. I do agree with you about it for the most part. Also, nothing I typed should be taken as disrespectful. I worry when people say things about conservatives like that because it seems no one can see it or wants to see it. I’m by no means advocating for people to be AHoles simply because they can. I just find it very scary for any society to cancel anyone for their opinions. It’s fine to punish someone from society that encourages hate, I’m for that. The issue arises when, for example because it’s an easy example, the trans issue. It’s not ok to call someone hateful if they express the opinion that it’s a mental illness. I don’t mind them at all, I just want people to actually be happy. It shouldn’t be ok to deplatform anyone with these opinions. It happens often. The deplatforming is almost always a conservative. The current outrage happening over The SCOTUS rulings, that judge(s) should be removed or added are showing that people are very ill informed about a lot of things. Just far too much emotions involved with everything now.
What an awe-inspiringly stupid article. I wish I had more to say about it, but it's just kind of sad. Your voice is really nice though :3
thank you dear! <3
What do you hear from conservatives nowadays? "I disagree with what you said, but I defend to the death your right to say it" or do they say "the satanic woke agenda is coming to drink the blood of the children!"?
It sounds to me like the author of this article walked out of theater saying to himself, "I liked this play... so it _must_ be conservative."
It almost doesn’t seem real to me that someone could watch a musical about a woman coming to terms with the oppressive society she lives in and eventually casting off the shackles of said society, and somehow think it’s about conservatives being told they can’t say slurs and lynch gay people anymore. Yet the article feels genuine to me. I truly believe he watched such a blatantly progressive play, and came away thinking that it was about him and those that think like him. Media literacy truly is dead
idk what i did to deserve such an intelligent comment section but i love you guys lol <3
The most shallow-ass surface level 'omg he's just like me' reading of a text is what gave us Donald Trump as a candidate because he eats McDonalds and likes boobies, so he's clearly a man of the people. Talk about the axe having a wooden handle.
Great video ! I’m new here, but I’ll watch the back catalog :)
honestly my take is that voting doesnt take that much time anyway so voting for the least bad option is pretty non intrusive and you can attempt to invoke change from outside the system too. And the consequence for voting for someone that is going to do less bad things than the other person who will do the same bad things plus even more bad things is too big to have personal ethics and high minded idealism into it.
100% agree with this. Especially with what's happened now.
One of the reasons I will never understand the reactionary mindset is that I want media to challenge my beliefs. Sometimes that means finding something in myself that I didn't think was there, and I can dissect that. That can come from outside my personal belief bubble in any direction. If I move closer towards the thesis I see in the medium in question, I can potentially enjoy it more on revisit. But sometimes it goes the other way, so that me and the media go our separate ways. That's what I feel is missing here. The author's analysis appears motivated by an effort to marry their emotional response with their political beliefs, not realising that they have discarded more than they have retained in order to reach their conclusions.
If you think _that_ is ridiculous, you should check out the conservatives who believe the movie Starship Troopers is a conservative masterpiece... They are so desperate to have mainstream appeal that they take satire against themselves and try to turn it into a serious depiction of their values.
It never ceases to amaze me, how easily conservatives, can super impose their messaging onto properties that have inherently leftist bents. I see them misinterpret everything from Bioshock (a critique of laissez faire capitalism/ayn rand) , to Metal Gear (which has a number of different leftist messages, despite the overt sexualization of female characters). It's completely absurd.
Our live stream we did together is getting decent views. I'm surprised your channel and videos are not doing better. As far as the Left goes...I think progressives are nuts and will eventually destroy the world with lack of morality and common sense.
My Italian Queen
What the hell was that? Internationally, people prefer Biden, but goddamn, he's gone. Trump is stupid and corrosive. Biden is absent and demented. I'm going Jill Stein.
A point by point analysis of the article would be so cool!
Hey there, not sure if you're aware of this, but the guy who interviewed you earlier tonight (Brett Keane) is a notorious liar, slanderer and bigot, mostly towards atheists and LGBT people. He's been kicked off of TH-cam dozens of times for doc-dropping, harassment and hate speech. He also has a record of physically abusing both his wife and mother, according to Missouri court records. And he he also has a long history of plagiarism. There's a series of videos called, "The Straightd0pe on Brett Keane" as well as many other resources online that reveal all the nefarious things he has been doing for the past 18 years on this site. Just wanted to warn you before he gets any closer to you. Have a nice weekend.
Great talk we had. I linked your channel in the title of the show if you go look.
I made sure to let her know what you're all about, manatee. For her protection, of course.
It's the most obvious interpretation of the story, but I'm glad someone is talking about it. Hope this video gets more views. It's well-edited. Reminds me of that scene in "Better Call Saul" where the judge tells Kim to stick with her high-paying job and just donate to charities, even though it becomes very clear later why she can't do that. I think you should make that video responding to the conservative think piece. I would watch it.
Subscribed!! super insightful :)
Hilarious because in the novel Glinda is very much a republican. And extremely elitist and very racist
To be fair, a lot of leftists draw basically no distinction between liberals and republicans.
the musical's version of Glinda is more complex, because although she looks like she's a good person, she still chose her own self interest over what was truly right. Although I do get her perspective since there will never be a perfect system and she can't truly change anything, it's still disappointing
Always thought Wicked was inherently political. Like, that was almost the whole point of it lol. Thought this was a really cool video, appreciated hearing your thoughts.
Funny how you assume it's Biden but not RK Jr. or anyone else.
The purpose of "reading" a work through a different lens is not to definitively say "this is exactly a 1:1 analogy in these ways." I am offering my opinion on how the work can be viewed through the specific lens that I define throughout the video. There's nothing to say you couldn't read it any other way, such as the one you described. Consider, for instance, the fact that literary scholars have done analysis of Shakespeare through a Marxist lens. Shakespeare never had any knowledge of Marx because he died 200 years before Marx's birth. And yet, there is something so fundamentally human about a lot of art that properties of a newer work can be applied to older ones. Know that we study art and literature because stories are valuable outside their immediate context! <3
@@xsepphie It really doesn't matter. You're free to think what you believe but it's ironic because the Nov elections take place the first week of Nov and the American public would only have access to the woke propaganda on Thanksgiving when it's too late to change their minds 🤷🏻♂️
