"Maybe on Monday" is a song I wrote after I met a homeless person one afternoon. I asked him how he got here sleeping on a park bench in Madison Wisconsin. He said he wasn't always homeless. There was a time when he lived near Boston. He had a job was married and owned a home. But then a mental illness that started in his early twenties got worse. He left home one day and ended up in Salt Lake City Utah. He lost his job, his house, and his wife. For the last ten years, he followed the railroad tracks wandering from town to town. He kept a book of the I Ching and three pennies and when it was time to wander he would throw the coins into the air and determine where he should go. The part that haunted me the most was when he told me when he sleeps sometimes he dreams that he is back in his house and his wife is sitting at the kitchen table with him and for a moment everything is alright. I promised him one day I would write a song about him so that he would not be forgotten.

On a hill in Mount Moriah Cemetery, overlooking Deadwood, South Dakota lies the final resting place of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. The cemetery is filled with lost souls from the Old West who left their homes back East, searching for a place to call their own. We all long to find that place where we truly belong. Some of us find it, while others never do. But in the end, "we're all really just running from the law".
* for purposes of this song, a desperado is anyone who leaves home looking for a place where they belong.
**Wild Bill Hickok,, Calamity Jane, and "Bonnie and Clyde" were all Desperados from the past.
Are you a modern-day desperado?

As I was composing this song, I decided to take a break and visit my friend's house to play guitar. As I drove over, the radio host mentioned that it was the anniversary of Bonnie and Clyde's death. I saw it as a sign and included them in this song

A song about finding love. "The town of Aberdeen came to me in a dream. When I googled it the next day and zoomed all the way in I ended up on 3rd Street, When a sick person sees Angels in the room it means they are soon to leave this world. This is the only part of the song I know to be true.
You never knew me

Great song really great stuff.
Such a beautiful song. It takes me to the 60s!
Very nice melody and lyrics. Nicely done Mark!
How soothing...but not in a Zombie-like way. "...a book of poetry I tried to quote, but you were reaching for your coat" is a fantastic lyric!
Love it man super chill !
I like the juxtaposition of folk-blues guitar, with somewhat cosmic, cryptic lyrics. Cool!
Terrific song - melody and lyrics are very soothing and heartfelt 🙏
Great tune! Dig the groove and really enjoyed your words. Very well done! Bravo.
