Facing Fear at Aspen Highlands
มุมมอง 7K24 วันที่ผ่านมา
Whatever level you're at, you probably experience fear when pushing your limits. That can get in the way of technique. This video shows my recent experience facing that fear. #aspensnowmass #aspenhighlands #aspen #ski #skicolorado #steepskiing #facingfear #pushinglimits #skiing #treesking #learntoski

Turner MT is hands down the best hidden gem in the Rockies. Steep, Deep, and Cheap. In the top 5% of vertical for North America with about the same as Grand Targhee.
What a great tip! I'm looking into Montana for a trip later this season. Any other recs??
@@PSYcholoSKI Discovery is great. Lost Pass. Snowbowl and Bridger (nightlife included). If you hit Whitefish, you might as well check out Blacktail. Very few skiers have seen yet experienced an "upside down" ski hill.
Slow vibes fr
Dude I know. So icy.
Bruh 💀 what do you even think you did there?
Looks to me like he’s having a good time
Exactly! If you're looking for double frontflips and 50-foot hucks, I'm not your guy. Trying to show how a mountain skis for an average skier.
Thats the crunchiest icey snow that ain’t on the east coast
I know, right? New Mexico is getting the wrong end of LA Niña for sure...
Magical. Thanks for relaxing scenic tour.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it! BP really is something special.
This is sick! <3
I'm just happy to be alive
You can't cheat the mountain, Pilgram. -Somebody Wise
Sounds like the DJ from Fallout 3
I LOVE the blend of skiing, technical talk, and appreciation for the scenery this is the perfect way to introduce people to something as awesome as skiing and as breathtaking as mountain-life in the winter! Your footage is poetry <3 Thank you so much for posting!!
Well I am flattered. Thank you so much for watching and giving feedback! Really helps me figure out what is working!
Love seeing the late season conditions! Thank you for sharing!
And you know what? They were pretty good conditions, all things considered.
BEST VIDEO YET!
Well, thank ya! Worth the 8-hour drive?
So incredible! Thank you for sharing!
Thank YOU for watching! This was a particularly fun day up there.
Dang bro, slow down out there. 😄
I love those flat glades that are easier to zip through. Definitely wouldn't be hitting steep trees this hard...
Wow Florida looks very nice must visit there in the summer 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I’m glad skiers sometimes have a hard time with super steep. Us snowboarders have it rough sometimes haha
Oh man, y'all impress me with how you handle steeps and bumps. Significantly harder, I think.
+1, as a snowboarder I have been called a “snowplow” just because I am riding a board but sometimes we all have to do it.
Agreed- I am DEFINITELY guilty of that
Are you going to be at aspen tomorrow?
Wish I was, but I'd totally be down to meet up sometime soon! You live in the area?
@ no but I am like 2 hours away
@ we are going up tomorrow, and another time I don’t know when though
Fair enough. I'll probably be up there a few more times for the season, will put out a message to see if anybody wants to join
@ ok
Breathtaking views! Thanks for sharing this unique perspective.
Well, thank you for watching and commenting! Makes a big difference for me!
I don't even ski, but I have been enjoying the videos, man! Good one!
Thanks so much! That means a lot coming from such a solid creator!
BFD😂
Gotta start somewhere!
did you get hurt my guy
Luckily no, but I'm definitely going to be more careful doing airs onto a catwalk...
Holy shit. Stay safe my guy.
Yeahhhh that was a little too close
This is so awesome and scary XD Also, the long shadows cast by those trees are SO pretty!
I have been lucky with the shadows lately! Thanks for the kind words!
Cool name, shitty content
It looks like you're floating everything is so smooth and that view is SO incredible!
Such a good feeling!
I would love to go skiing, lived near the Rocky’s for a bit but never went though.
You should give it a try! There are great ways to do it on the cheap- I have a video about it!
This is so amazing! The video is very well done! :)
Well thank ya! With a place that pretty, it's hard not to get good footage
where is this??
Mayflower Gulch, very close to Copper Mountain!
do a flip
🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if you hadn't said anything if the Fates would have let you pass XD ❤
Nawwwww, I had it comin'
Pure Ice on the Piste.. worst thing ever👀!
I definitely took home a bruise from that one...
@@PSYcholoSKI 😂happens man! I see it like a souvenir or something you can remeber from the good ol Piste
See, that's the fighting spirit! Definitely isn't stopping me from going up tomorrow
¿High up on the mountain, if you were to suffer an injury-and you could not walk-do cell phones work up there . . . or do you need a satellite phone? Thank you.
Depends on the location and situation. I definitely would not have been that bold without a guide who really knew what they were doing, at least not until I get more training.
Looks hard and rough
Yeahhhh felt like East Coast tree skiing
never go in the trees alone!
Good advice! My buddy was with me, off-camera!
Most camera shots can't show how steep a slope is this does. Scary steep dude.
I appreciate you saying that- kind of a constant struggle with gopro footage to show just how intense this stuff is
Awww! Such a wonderful day! Love the humor in this one!
Hehe this was pretty goofy and great
Berthoud Pass is amazing! Can't wait to do more of these car laps this season!
Soon!!!
That intro gets me every time! 😆 Overall, a GREAT video!
🤣 Gotta hold attention however I can!
Videos like this help us newbies not feel so self-conscious about falling all the time!
I've got a few crashes of my own to post soon...
I can't wait to go to A-Basin! Also, I LOVE the theme of this video!
Pali opens TOMORROW!
I never even would have thought there were "smaller" resorts out there ^ ^ These are amazing tips, especially for n00bs like me who are unsure how to begin to get onto the mountain!! 💖
And the thing is, these places are CHEAP. One day at Vail = 5 or 6 days at most of these
A-Basin is SO gorgeous I absolutely cannot wait to go back ❤ You got some incredible footage!
They're opening stuff like crazy! Let's go soon!!!
The kind of snow you have to fight to get up out of 😂
And this was right in front of the lift, so everybody watched me struggle...
Wow
That run woke me up!
I ski on that mountain 😊
I bet you ski it a whole lot better than me!
I don’t so much mind the high-priced food, but when it’s expensive AND bad that I start thinking about packing a lunch..
Totally!! And yeah, I'll make an exception for something unique, like Taos's Bavarian restaurant, but most of the time, it just ain't worth it to me anymore.
Try to keep your upper body from your waist up pointed down the hill as much as possible, it should help with your balance on steeper terrain like that.
Much appreciated! Yeah, I found myself reverting to a lot of bad habits out there today, and that was the biggest one. Gotta shake off that dust and get back into form! Thanks for commenting- those kinds of tips are always welcome!!!
As a snowboarder, those moguls look like a nightmare! Especially on that steep of an incline. Turning from edge to edge is nearly impossible when it’s that steep. How is it on skis?
They were pretty rough! Definitely required more commitment than I gave em. I found myself slipping back into my bad habits from high school, not pole planting or jump turning. Gotta get over that fear and lean in!
Sling at winter park is fun
I meant skiing
There is just something about Winter Park, isn't there? Can't wait for more terrain to open!
How do you feel about gear rentals vs FB Market purchases, assuming gear rentals are a thing?
Definitely something I wish I covered more in this video! What I will say is, if you plan on doing more than a couple days in a season, it's often a good deal to get a secondhand ski setup and get it tuned to your body at a ski shop. They'll fit better and perform better than rentals, and you can potentially resell them to gain most of your money back. If you do rent, don't rent on the mountain unless you swing some kind of coupon deal. Usually cheaper to rent down the mountain a bit.
Who's here in November 2024? I know I am.
Replying to this from the summit lodge at Winter Park, so I guess I'm here!
Question which 5 or so mts do u recommend for someone trying to go to high-beginner/low intermediate to solid intermediate? Trees (unless they’re wide) and steep chutes are not my goal. Just want to be able to handle advanced terrain in spots if need be (rating system is whack).
I tooooootally agree that the rating system is whack. Top 5ish places I'd recommend for that level (probably going to make a video about this soon, actually): Ikon: Winter Park- Parsenn Bowl sounds like a good zone for you, as does most of the WP side. Copper Mountain- Naturally divided terrain really lends itself to helping you scale up. This is where I went from low intermediate to advanced. Epic: Keystone- lots of fun roller terrain at different levels, huge vertical helps you train endurance Beaver Creek- If you can afford it, it's pretty tough to beat this place for that skill range, and it is BEAUTIFUL. Independent/Small: Loveland - This place starts being a good bet at the lower intermediate level and just stays good from there. Ptarmigan Lift is your best friend here. Fire/Bennett's Bowl, South Chutes, that whole area would be a great zone for you. Snowy Range - Not only is the ticket cheap, but so are lessons. I took a great moguls lesson here that cost surprisingly little, and they have quite a bit of fun blue terrain for such a small mountain. Anyway, hope this helps, and thanks for watching!!!
@ definitely helps bro. Going to breck for thx giving. will return to CO for longer trip in Jan and hit up beaver and key for sure (epic pass here). And if lucky for a 3rd trip, Loveland and vail and revisit 1-2 of previous ones. But I’m adding all others u gave to my list. 🤌
