Bro this was my first car age 16 in 1990. I remember having to wait for the glow plugs to warm before starting, dash pulling up from the glovebox. Doing 60 felt like 100. Absolutely loved it. Funny story ..learned to drive on that manual transmission and tried to pass a car with a cute girl I knew but got beside them and couldn’t go any faster. Didn’t know to downshift. Had to fall back behind like a loser, had to pull over from the embarrassment. 😭

You weren’t getting power at the fuse link under the hood, swapped out the glow plugs and now it worked?

Same thing with mine. Glow plugs won’t get hot. But have power at the relay. Also swapped out with another one that’s working and still mine didn’t work.

If you have power coming from the glow plug relay but it doesn't reach the other side of the fuse, it could be the fuse or the fuse contacts. I have a wire that clamps to the battery with battery clamps and on the other end to the glow plug buss with an alligator clip. With a 60 amp ammeter in the middle. It tells how many amps the glowplugs are pulling. If one is bad it will tell. It can also be used to bypass the relay and fuse.

Take the lane, especially on the bridge. It's your right, and it helps drivers observe the double yellow as they should.

Hi man I'm experienced with diesel service, you want to crack all the lines open crank it but don't let it run and when they are all wet then tighten them.the fuel actually forms a seal. Once it's primed and run a bit if there any leaks then 17mm tighten them. My current project is a 1978 vw audi fox someone put a turbo diesel conversion too.. I used to working lots of diesels qt a mercedes shop.. that rabbit has potential. Did you know you can run those on black diesel. What's black diesel it used motor oil mixed with gasoline and diesel costs less than 1 buck a gallon with normal fuel prices.only old diesel cars will run on it.

Now it's time for lots of sound deadening, the diesel has grunt, now it needs quiet grunt.

Maybe a lower temp fan switch,a new electric fan the modern version, 20/50 non sythetic oil,a sandwich plate oil cooler kit, and more water to coolant ratio the far may run alot cooler.some new injector nozzels, a front air dam,a set of new front axles from rock auto. A pair of new shock tower mounts. And si much mire 5o then make it pretty mirrored blue window tint, I do so much ti my cars I'd even have power windows in it.new rear hatch strut shocks.

Got a 77 for a project and someone cut all the wires to the radiator fan and I can’t find anything to really help me figure it out so I’m gonna wire in a switch I guess… it also has the old fuse box with ceramic fuses that’s held up with zip ties that I’d like to do away with
