Sucessful Contact using Cowtown ARC remote system via ISS repeater.

Finally got a good QSO using our remote satellite ground station. The difficulties were, the freqs for the ISS in SatPC32 were wrong...not sure if they were the default freqs, or someone modified them. Also Main/Sub are switched every once in a while for the various satellites, not on the SatPC32 display, but on the remote radio software. Not sure if SatPC32 correctly commands the radio (via re...

    The Elk VHF/UHF Satellite log periodic for FM and SSB birds have all elements in the same plane and works as well as the Arrow II dual Yagi which have its VHF elements 90 degrees from the UHF elements. The Arrow II has build in 10W Diplexer which is not required by the Elk. Why does the Yagi require 90 deg phase polarization difference yet the Elk LPDA does not?

    If certain rocket companies can offer direct very high speed internet direct services, why can't amateur radio satellites offer a similar high speed service for hams over the ham radio bands? Maybe have three of four LEO sats for hams. I'm talking about in the Mbps speed range, not the snail speed 9K6 or 19K2. What are we waiting for? Dean, CE4JDM

    • @cowtownarc-fortworth
      @cowtownarc-fortworth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess you mean on the flows page. Probably the one you see is created by the "msg-resend" node in the section that displays the rotor status...(you can see it at the 23:29 minute mark) I stuck that there just so the announcement on the Dashboard telling the user that the Rotor was stopping then shutting down would stay on the page a bit longer. Without it, the message just flashes on the screen. There is probably a better way, but it solved the problem at the time.

We start talking about the Flex Radio and trying to set that up for remote access using the Flex software (SmartSDR). (the Flex Radio is discussed in the video prior to this one) As was said in the video...THAT is complicated...however, this method is not complicated, that is why we decided to pursue it and roll it out for the club members. we appreciate your positive feedback in helping us further the knowledge base.

    • @cowtownarc-fortworth
      @cowtownarc-fortworth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, there are a few different things going on , but I think the item you are interested in is in the Menus... click the Tab called "Accy" (between "Programs" and "?") then select Countdown. That is the window on the left side showing the LOS/AOS of upcoming satellites. That list of satellites is from the list showing when you click the "Satellites" tab. I learned during Field Day, that if there is a satellite on your 'Countdown' list that doesn't show a time, it will cause the list to display incorrectly (the correct way is the satellites overhead or about to gain AOS are at the top, and the rest are in order by AOS time)

      Not that I know about...I think that might be a video artifact... the display above it was too bright and the 5500 was too dim...So it is probably a reflection of the upper display making it look green. Quite a bit of video editing went into this to make it all readable. I will have to fire it back up and take a look.

    Very fun and informative discussion! I have two RTL-SDR.COM v3 dongles and I am so impressed with their sensitivity from 3 MHz to 1 GHZ when used with the proper antenna. I also use a Ham It Up, up-converter to eliminate the mirrored aliases which pivot about 14.4 MHz, that are associated with the HF direct conversion mode. Up conversion isn't perfect either, as it has images of its own, but I can more easily live with those. Those images are similar to single conversion heterodyne reception which I have grown to tolerate!
