Lesson Sheet: God vs. Man: A Survey of Acts “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:19-20 Lesson 2: Acts 2:1-41, “The Message” - “Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins.” Vs. 38 Summary: In our bible study today we will consider the message of the apostles on the day of Pentecost. Reading all the way through Peter’s sermon ask yourself what is the content? What is this message about? What are the hearers of this message to do? This is the same message the Christian Church has today as it goes out into all the world. Intro: Message: What is the Christian message? Why do we think so? From where in the Scriptures do we draw this message? Peters sermon on Pentecost is one of the most significant sermons every preached as it is the first message of the apostle’s recorded after Jesus’ ascension into heaven. 1.Why does Peter quote Joel in Acts 2:17-21? 2.Who is the first person Peter speaks of in His sermon? 3.Talk about the message of the crucifixion of Jesus. Where is it placed in the sermon? Who does Peter say crucified Jesus? 4.What does Peter say that David spoke of in verse 31? 5.Talk about the “Law” in this sermon. Is Peter soft on the law or firm? Explain. 6.Where is the Gospel in this sermon? Is it clear? 7.Consider “repentance” in Peter’s answer to the hearers when they ask, “What shall we do?” Discuss repentance in the life of the follower of Jesus. Next, consider the place of baptism. 8.Peter says, “This promise is for you and your children and all who are afar off…” Talk about the comfort of these words. 9.At the end of this section, Luke says “about 3,000 were added that day…” are numbers important for us to consider in the Christian Church? Why do you think this was added?
