Quad Cortex and Laney LFR-412 w/ EQ - iPhone
When comparing the QC capture and IR thru the Laney LFR412 to the real amp/ cab (ClubSecret23 and REVV 4x12), I felt there was an additional EQ "offset" needed to help adjust the sound in the room. It's far from perfect, but sounds more "natural" to my ears with the EQ (in the room)--and I'll keep on tweaking as I have more time--but for now, it's good enough. The 2nd/ last EQ adjustment in the vid (quickly turned off near the end) is the standard "cab in a room" eq-low/high pass cuts.
Played in a live band situation last night, against a Road King/ 412 cab and the QC/ Laney held it's own! (I got the volume about half way up--but had to turn down a bit, as it was too loud and buried the drums!)

New “cab” day! Laney LFR-412 (iPhone in the room)

Initial power up of the new Laney LFR-412 (2600 watt, powered FRFR!). Only got to about 4 volume-wise and it's deafening it'll be perfect for a live band situation. Just plugged the QuadCortex in didn't tweak any settings to this cab. But did test out the internal IRs as is.

Was doing a bit of reamping today, and for fun, wondered what would happen if I used just 1 track of each of the amps currently in my KHE amp switcher? This is the result, just using 1 amp head on 1 guitar DI track, levelled about he same, and panning each for a bit of separation. Some quick chugs thru the amp switcher. Had to just make some loud noises for a bit as i was a few hours in with dealing with a failing computer and needed something else to do for a minute. They are currently tuned a bit to sound similar as i was just jumping between amps and turning knobs. Sounds great man. Im using the Laney 2 12 atm and its awesome with the Quad Cortex it is really good. But im thinking about one of these now. I guess its a fuller sound with the bigger cab and speakers?

NO boost--just straight Guitar > Amp > Cab
I have heard mixed things of the dual rectifier mesa head, but I think it sounds solid as fuck, especially for an iPhone recording. Kinda reminds me of Meshuggah's guitar tone from the 90s actually.
It's all the Hermansson mod. He rebuilds the amp, so it's not a default Dual Recto anymore.
Wizard and then Peavey. I found MW Hermie a little dark and the Bogner too dark.

Rattles the walls. I love it. I'm in love. This sounds like my RK2 with an OD in front and you're getting it directly from the amp. Awesome!
The bogner ultra and invective are tough to decide my favorite between the 2.
The invective was a bit of a surprise here using just the internal settings (no external boost). But this invective actually got some work on it recently by an amp builder to fix a volume issue and it’s been super tight ever since!
Potential flaw in the design. (If you search you’ll find others with a volume issue and these amps). He found and fixed it!
I agree, I didn't know which amp was which, but the 2nd and 4th were the best sounding to me, and I see that those were the Uber and Invective.

If it's the same order as the title, it seems that they're all "tuned" to a similar character and the Hermansson is very different. Or at least #3 is.

Thanks so much for comparing the Bogner and Wizard. These two amps are pretty much the rarest "top of the heap" high gain amps out right now and it's very tough to find anybody who has played both. Do you have a preference between the Uber Ultra and Hell Razor? How would you describe them being different in terms of both tone overall and ability to dial them in?
depends on the situation. in the room there's something in the HR that i'm not getting from the Ultra, but the ultra still is great and they sound pretty close. i'm trying to get them setup for recording purposes mainly--so it'll be more about getting mix tones and variations with cabs/ mics/ etc. Dialing them in: the HR is a bit harder i find as every knob can affect every other knob...it's a tweaker amp, so you can do a lot with it. It also works really well with a boost--all these sounds in the vid are JUST the amps though.
@@TheMept Awesome, thanks for replying man, some great info there! Just a thought, have you tried getting into the Bogner's Channel 1 Uber mode? It's supposed to be just as heavy as Channel 2 Uber mode, but a bit tighter and brighter.

as in the notes, it's not a "fair" shootout as the REVV wasn't dialed in--just plugged in from when i brought it to a friends house and we were trying out just a bunch of random amps. the REVV sounds great--and is extremely versatile. and the invective benefits from an external boost instead of the the internal imo. But the HR and the Ultra are definitely different amps then those

Was the boost on the whole time? Any noise gate (it sounded pretty quiet!)?
The boost was on the whole time, with the gain(s) on the amp all down a bit more than i'd usually have with just the amp. i do run a gate pedal in the FX loop of the amp generally, but didn't have it on in this case (again, with the gains down that low, the amp isn't noisy...once they are up is a different story as per usual)
