Risa’s Embroidery Chest
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 มิ.ย. 2011
The world of hand embroidery kits allows me to explore new embroidery designs, styles n' stitches around the world, from traditional ethnic embroidery to modern. I highly recommend trying kits to learn a new embroidery technique. I learned ribbon embroidery by stitching kits. My channel predominantly focuses on stitching kits. I also review books, useful supplies and aim to capture the unique world of ethnic embroidery crafts via my "walkabouts". I include mindful "Stitch Along" videos so that embroiders have an online "stitch buddy" if they are self learning. I decided to share my hours of hand embroidery stitching as a relaxing outlet for other embroidery enthusiast. Having gained confidence stitching kits I now also share and offer my own design patterns as FREE downloads.

How many hours in total did this take to complete?
Its been a while, so I don’t remember exactly as I was working on another embroidery in parallel. I’d say 2 hours a day for 2 weeks
@@RisasEmbroideryChestSo around 30 hours work then is a good guess? I've started selling these in the UK. Is there any chance I could use your video at exhibitions?
@jayp12345 please feel free to share the link to my video with your buyers to follow if they need help to complete the work. If thats what you mean by exhibitions. If you mean a like exhibition, as long as its my original video thats showing on my YT channel, and not a remix, I would be honored if you showcased it. Thank you!
Where Did You Find the Size or Piece of Cardboard or Bezel?
It’s a thin metal bezel and came with the mirror set. Link on where to buy is in my description.
Oh my goodness this is the cutest little bird I've ever seen! Great job!!
😀 thank you!
Gostaria sinceramente de ter esses livros maravilhosos. Infelizmente são muito caros no Brasil.😢
Sorry to hear, yes they are expensive everywhere. Maybe you can follow my video of the bird.
Que livro maravilhoso. ❤
The author has just come out with a new book. Check her out on instagram.
Thank you for your supportive comment and for watching my video ❤️
Where can we purchase the book?
I’ve included the link in my description. It’s in Korean however.
I too saw this book on Amazon but no inside pictures were provided. Thank you for the review. It has helped me make up my mind about buying it.
You’re welcome. Thank you for watching my video.
Hi Rosa, would u be able to share the contacts for the shoe maker pls. Ta
Are you based on Singapore?
He is in Golden Mile Tower. I don’t have the exact Shop number. He is in the basement
This embroidery came out so nice! Congratulations. I have a question. I noticed the image is not square with the fabric threads. Is this the way you prefer to embroider?
Don’t quite get your question.
Did you mean not aligned with the direction of the fabric weave? Honestly, I didn’t pay any attention to the fabric.
@RisasEmbroideryChest that's what I meant. That's good that the fabric can just be embroidered any way. Thank you for responding. I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you!
It's really really very good 😅
Thank you so much 😀 ❤️
the slippers are kinda similar to the 19th century colonial era Philippines, which we call it "alfombra" im developing a theory that the Filipino women bought nyona slippers on peranakan/chinoy (Chinese and Chinese-pinoy) merchants
I didn’t know this. How interesting! You could be right.
@@RisasEmbroideryChestyeah, I keep looking for references in old photos of Spanish colonial era Pinoy women wearing these types of slippers
STUPENDOUS!!! What a talent you have!🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so very much for watching. Hope my videos help.
I couldn't find DMC 381.
Sorry to hear. Perhaps you could use the Anchor floss equivalent.
@@RisasEmbroideryChest oh I mean there isn't that number.
I think you meant 3813 or 504.
Maybe I’ll have to check back
@RisasEmbroideryChest either way, it's a very good embroidery. I've sent this video to my sister and daughter to inspire them to be as good.
Would have liked this so much more without the music . Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the feedback. I’ll work something out for my next video. I have kids at home and a dog, there is a lot of background noise 😅.
Ooh Rosa this is fascinating. I’ve never seen this punch needle thing. Perhaps it’ll be my next project after I get the project I just ordered from Lorna Bateman- the Ramblin Rose scissor and needle minder set. I chose it after I saw your tutorial here on your channel. Thanks for sharing your wonderful skills demonstrated in your videos!
Thank you
Where can I order the kits
Lorna Bateman’s shop on Etsy. Link is in my description.
Your work is beautiful! Love it! Enjoy your crafty day! ❤
Thank you!
I found it.
Great!
Risa, you have another video where you show how to assemble the scissor project. Can you help me find it?
Thank you for watching my videos!
@@RisasEmbroideryChest over and over and over! Haha. I’m such a newbie! 😅
@DRoche911 just keep stitching. Hope you are enjoying the You Time!
I just got my kit and I was totally confused and lost. Didn’t know where to start. Although the written instructions are probably perfect I’m just not able to understand them as this is my first attempt at sewing in my whole life. I’m really grateful for this tutorial
❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much for your comments, makes all the effort I put into making my videos worth it.
@@RisasEmbroideryChest Ive got the scissor stand sitting here, along with the doodle clothe. Im ready to start- but nervous. Starting with the stems and Candytuft, not sure which stitch to make the stem though. Any thoughts?
@DRoche911 I use stem stitch. Very simple to embroider. Just make sure you bring out the needle on the same side all the time to ensure the stem looks uniform.
@@RisasEmbroideryChestmy stems turned out beautiful. Thank you. I uploaded a video that shows the finished work, although it isn’t out of the hoop yet.
@DRoche911 great! I’ll check it out. On YT right?
Lorna is amazing!!
She is indeed. Best embroidery designer. Love her!
So beautiful
Thank you!
ESA APACHURRABLE !!!!!! DIVINO, HERMOSO !! LO QUIERO!!!!!!

Stunning cant wait to start again
Thank you!
Beautiful stitching. Music distracting & too loud to hear everything said. Harsh lighting made some parts difficult to see.
Thanks for the feedback. This was my very first video 😀. Had not mastered the art of recording etc. Hope my newer videos are better. Point well taken and will adjust accordingly.
Which cloth is best for ribbon embroidery
You can use any cloth (even organza) if you use silk ribbons as the ribbons are smooth and can enter the cloth easily. However, if you use satin ribbons, you’ll need a sturdier cloth but not very thick as the ribbons are thicker and more difficult to pull through. Please watch my videos on Satin ribbon embroidery.
Hello Risa, thanks for this video. To make the shoes, did you put graph paper (with the design on it) over cotton? Or is it tracing paper and a different fabric?
I used graph paper on the fabric with design on it. As it’s easier to count the squares. You can also use canvas used for cross stitch and just count the squares. Check out my review of this book for more tips on materials and designs.

@@RisasEmbroideryChest thanks so much for your response. I messaged that place about buying the book but they didn't respond. I want to learn how to bead peranakan style and I'm finding little online about the actual materials used and technique.
Your projects are so inspiring! Thank you for explaining as you go! And.... thank you for sharing your time & talent!
Thank you for your appreciation!
Hi Risa - again a lovely presentation. I love stumpwork even though it is a lengthy process - the reward at the end is well worth the time spent ❤

Sorry, don’t remember it’s been a while.
Have you done a beginners? Video on stitches because a couple of times she said do a ribbon stitch and I’m an absolute beginner. So I have no idea how to do this properly.
Hi Lesley, thanks for watching my videos. Here is a link to one of my early videos that explains all the stitches . Mindful Stitch Along #1: Lorna Bateman’s Garland of Flowers/ Silk Ribbon Embroidery/ Intermediate th-cam.com/video/3qFG38RKQg8/w-d-xo.html

Thank you!
Какая нежность!
I feel it's unfair to give a thumbs down and not say why. In my opinion, the video feels frantic. The narration is too fast. It doesn't sound like natural speech. Coupled with the accelerated pace of the footage, it feels rushed, in my opinion.
Thanks for the feedback. I do not artificially speed up my narration. I do speed up parts of the video after explaining a stitch technique to ensure videos are not too long. I hear you about feeling rushed and will try and find a balance. Thanks
Beautiful.. such a pretty cushion cover. I shall try to make one like that.
Thank you!
Finally had a chance to finish the video and, as you said, that was absolutely gorgeous AND the acorns were so cute. So pleased you mentioned that it had taken six months to complete due to work commitments/life now I don't feel as bad when I take months to complete a project. They aren't nearly to this level though!! I loved the look of the heart at the end of the video on the top right of your desk.
Yes this took a long time to finish and I felt guilty for not being able to upload a new video on the channel as frequently as needed. It was difficult to come back to the embroidery after a long break. What helped was to aim to finish one embroidery element at a time.
I'm only partway through and really enjoying watching you do this stump work embroidery. The whip stitch around the stem stitch gave a very stem like appearance. How clever to think to add extra beds to the strawberries once you had sewed them on as this covered the printed pattern perfectly. The different camera angles are brilliant to see what you are doing - thanks
Thank so much for your support!
Please could you tell me where you purchased this unable to see a link. Thanks

Good information. I did use the mute button and turned on closed captions so i could focus better without the music. Music is just nor needed in teaching videos.
Thank you for watching and the feedback.
Gorgeous!
Thank you!
Absolutely Jaw Dropping! So much thanks for sharing!
Thank you !
Why do they use white thread? Wouldn't clear thread make more sense?
Thank you for your comment. Indeed you can use finer clear beading thread. I’ve used these when I do thread embroidery and use beads to embellish. However, since most transparent threads are plastic based it’s had to start and finish. Making knots is a challenge. For large beading projects (like the Peranakan shoes and this) I find using white and black threads (depending on the bead color and look you want) easier to work with.
My daughter gave me Lorna Batemans book for Christmas and you have made the book come alive. Thankyou.
Thank you for your appreciation. Didn’t know Lorna Bateman has a book out on ribbon embroidery.
