Same when it comes to being invested in the spin off stuff. I just try to view each game as completely independent of each other and try to ignore any continuity inconsistency. That helps a bit. Like how through incremental changes in MK's lore, by the time you get to MK1, the story of MK9 makes no sense anymore. But I can still ignore the plot holes and enjoy them as independent stories.

Fans were saying the same thing about Kunimitsu before she came back in T7. More than the Mishima's are easy cash grabs, any returning characters are.

@@AzulSombra the Kunimitsu in T7 is the daughter of the previous one, it's not the same as a character not being dead. And it's funny that people don't realize that Jun was never confirmed dead, she was just missing. The wiki always had her as missing, Jin just believed she was dead. That was the only hope I kept all these years and it worked out. Baek and Wang probably won't come back because Hwaorang exists and Xiaoyu is slowly getting more of Wang's moves... Plus they aren't as profitable as releasing Anna as dlc every game

@@fafnirable1 Baek and Wang are not dead. I was referring to Kunimitsu as a gash grab DLC not a dead character returning. The fan narrative was that Yoshimitsu killed the original Kunimitsu prior to that and that the character would never return. Even if it's the daughter, they were wrong. And they won't come back because Anna is more profitable? Good thing there isn't only one DLC slot per game.

@@AzulSombra you could say any of the dlc are cash grabs. I was originally saying that the Mishimas basically print money, just like the ninjas in Mortal Kombat. As for Wang and Baek, they have been shown dying multiple times, the team is definitely trying to move away from them. I would love for Wang to come back, but he has multiple replacements like Bruce. Wang has similar moves to Michelle and they were both replaced by Julia... Who is basically replaced by Leo at this point. Bruce was replaced by Josie and Fahkumram. It's different from Anna, who they make sure we know she's still alive... But they won't put her in the base roster anymore

@@psicho9217 They never showed Zafina and Claudio as corpses though. Zafina just passed out and Claudio was obscured in dust. Heihachi in T7 was way more of a corpse with the heartbeat implying he was dead before Kazuya even tossed him in.

@@CammySimp I thought Zafina was dead personally from the cutscene and well Claudio that's kinda wishful thinking (he annoying) but he wasn't moving on the ground. More than they give us with the Machimas getting dropped off cliffs or saying Jun was taken out off screen. Heihachi is more or less the main character of tekken. It's like killing off Ryu. Minor characters don't get the plot armor advantage. Minor being anyone not a Machima level important character. I'm not saying it's right but that's how the games seem to go. King and AK were Minor characters and they died but brought back because loopholes with masks

Tekken 4 before it's retcon? Heihachi has a slide of him beating Kazuya in T4, Kazuya doesn't have one of the reverse. There're no coherent official depictions of T1 or T4 though so no you can't say he beat Heihachi clean in those.

@GurenUmbra well from what I heard, old tekken 5 manuals state kazuya beated heihachi at the t4 tournament however a european manual got that wrong and for some reason that is what resulted in the retcon moving forward

I mean, they had a cinematic story mode climax with him getting punched in the chest hard enough for his heart to stop and then pov showed him getting tossed in lava. Anyone would presume that was actually it for Heihachi unless you had a really low opinion of the Tekken Project team and believed they had 0 integrity.

Before they started doing cinematic campaigns it was easy to hand waive stuff but the fact that even the content in those campaigns can't be trusted is what's new. Before there was no reason not to trust them.

A lot of the Tekken stories don't make sense, but I felt like T8 was a step in the right direction till Heihachi came back to life. They sure are consistently inconsistent.

Fighting game characters are becoming more like comic book characters is more accurate. With every transgression from these development teams, it becomes more true though. Tekken at least hasn't crossed the time travel line yet.

Yeah, whatever recontextualized version of that scene they go with for T8 might just take out the heartbeat noise as cheap of a move that would be.

Nope, he absolutely used the devil form as his surprise trump card in Tekken 1. That’s why Heihachi trained for 2 years. He knew the exact bar he had to meet (strength wise) to retake the Zaibatsu cause he had already experienced the form.

@@moredragons228 and that was just a teaser for the sequel and also non of the Tekken 2 bios imply he used devil against Heihachi.

@@ilyamuromez6412 The bios wouldn't have to. Devil is in Tekken 1 whether you want to call it a teaser or not. Kazuya didn't magically unlock the form in those 2 years. The idea that he just would opt out of using it for any reason is farfetched.

Those are only official until they're not. Nothing is sacred in Tekken. They will bring anyone back to DLC cash grab.

@@MishimaMishima123 The thing is, all three of those characters have successors who are pretty much exactly the same. There's no need to bring them back. They don't even show up in the Tag games (except Armor King I in Tag 1, but he wasn't killed in the story yet).

@@NeoKokoro20 They could just write in a reason to make them different. Like G-Corp experimenting with Ogre DNA or something. So, they come back more monstrous. I'll even paint the picture for you. Teaser trailer starts in an empty lab slowly zooming in on someone floating in a test chamber. It sporadically cuts to shots of Kings Tekken 1 and 2 endings as well as close up shots of their arms or legs twitching as they seem to be remembering things. That continues till the camera gets close enough where you can see it's King I but he's been changed. Now he really is a humanoid jaguar. Close up of his eyes opening. He bursts from the chamber and roars, then it cuts to him doing king moves but with bestial clawing and bites mixed in. No one is safe from becoming DLC.
