How to Half cab flip! - Half Cab Flip Trick Tip
In this video, I break down one of my favorite tricks, the half cab flip (fakie 180 kickflip). This is a great trick to learn for beginners moving into intermediate level tricks. The most difficult part of this trick for beginners is rolling fakie (backwards). But once you get comfortable with that, if you know how to kickflip, this trick should come pretty easily!
I have broken this down into simple steps that will help you feel confident to go out and learn this new trick!

1:20 Shoulder rotation

How to Grip a Skateboard deck
มุมมอง 945 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I breakdown the process of gripping a new skateboard. I cover topics on differences between grip tape brands and hardware types. Walk through poking holes in the grip tape, adding the trucks and more. Gripping your own skateboard is such a huge part of learning to skate. I would say most skaters enjoy doing this because it is personal to everyone. I hope this helps and please sha...
47,000 Square Foot Skatepark in Texas!!
มุมมอง 2946 หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently had a work trip to Dallas, Texas and I had seen videos of this gigantic skatepark that happened to be right near where I was staying! I had to bring. my board and check it out. My session started off a little slow, but by the end I couldn't believe what I was pushing myself to do. This park has everything you could imagine, ledges of all sizes, flatbars, multiple bowls, you name it! ...

How many tricks can I RELEARN before WORK?!
I’m about to go try this on the same rail 🔥🙌🏼
Hell yeah! If I still lived in AZ I’d be there with ya!
The secret to 360 flip is to keep your scoop foot long enough in the air so you can actually land it. My scoop foot ends up on the ground before the board. I just don’t jump high enough as to much energy goes into scoop. It’s hard.
@@pistopitpit usually if your foot is going to the ground first it just means you’ve still got a little fear about fully committing. Pop, jump high and trust you’ll land on the board 🤙
@@ConnorMcSkaten cheers mate, will try to commit 100%. I have a video to see what I am doing wrong and it looks like the board is doing its last bit of spin while my back foot is already on the ground. I thought if I scoop harder then the spin will be faster and I will have enough time to land it. I feel like I am definitely close and seeing I am making progress, motivates me.
Hi, How can I make my front side 180's High enough for a ledge?
Keep practicing!
Nice vid
Thank you! 🙏
Starting to get more consistent at these thanks to this tip! The foot position helps as well as ollieing then turning, also looking at your front foot when you’re sliding to fakie
Love it! Thanks for the support!
Im just straight up scared to go fast.pop backside and open up my shoulders.when i started the trick i was slippin out on my face .falling harder than any trick ive done ever
I totally get that! Usually when I slip out bad it’s on ledges that are kind of tall for me. Maybe try on something a little lower!
Tx man
Great vid
Thanks man this was super helpful 👍
Glad it helped!!
Best tutorial, im battling this mf for a couple weeks now and fk i hate bs feeble, but not gonna lose to em
Appreciate it!
Smooth!!
Daaaaaaang bro that's HEAVY!!! 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Was that a bs flip nose grind. Talk to me . Super clean g
Bro don’t tell me dis was a bs heel flip not bs kick flip in to a nose grind…plz don’t say a salad gang. Goat shit on god❤❤❤❤
It was! Thanks!
wtf
So sick!
bro made it look so easy😂
🙏🙏
Y’all don’t understand how hard this trick is… what a goat 🎉🎉
🙏🙏🙏
They always go behind me as in I land on the nose. They also only flip halfway
You have to really focus on pushing the board in a forward direction when you scoop. That’s why it’s important to have your back foot more on the corner of the tail. Hope that helps!
Nice work 👏
The open shoulder is the worst advice you could give to anyone on this. Have you ever seen anyone try to learn this trick? They always land with their front foot on the floor next to the board… because of the open shoulder 🤦🏻♂️
Usually that’s because they aren’t committing. Everyone’s got their own opinion and way to do it though 🤙
Stoked to try these again after watching this!
Hell yeah! Let me know if you get one! Just looked at your channel, I love cooking definitely going to try some recipes!
Bout to try this out… will record how I do 😁
Thanks for the tips! I always struggled half way thru this trick, my problem was the arms & shoulders not opening. So thanks man 🏆
Hell yeah! Thanks for watching. Someone told me one time that your skateboard always follows your shoulders whether you’re getting into grinds, doing 180s whatever and it’s been so helpful! Glad it helped you too!
Pretty thorough and helpful, I love it. You got frontside flips? I need help with that trick 😂
Thank you Jay! 🙏 haha yes I have frontside flips, I just gotta dust the cobwebs off. I’ll focus on those for one of my next vids!
If you have any questions that weren't answered in the video - happy to answer them here!
I'm trying to learn proper under the bolts tres...got the power but no sweep, scoop and control ?....Any tips ?
Honestly just keep practicing them! If you have the power, it all comes down to perfecting it and repetition is the best way to do that.
Connor this is Hans from ASU. I don't know if you remember me. I left after my sophomore year in 2012. I got sober and back into skating in 2016 and this trick haunted me even in my middle school years and this was really helpful. i have the 270 flip tendency and I'm able to get more of a full 360 out of my scoop.I hope you're doing well. If we ever cross paths again i hope we can catch a session together.
What’s up dude! Of course I remember you. Hope you’re good and congrats on getting sober. Where do you live these days? Would be sick to skate together!
Come skate the hardy curbs
I would but I moved out of AZ!
i would recommend going parallel instead of an angle since you take the momentum with you instead of smashing it into the rail. you need less speed that way but you have to look more over your shoulder.
it was once described to me similarly to “behind the back” pass of a soccer ball & that really helped me learn popping into back tails
Sick! I don’t really know how to play soccer but that totally makes sense!
I'm interested in these techniques.any further explanation about this?
that's a good tip !
@@mylast949search for “Cristiano Ronaldo chop”. you approach the ledge at an angle and do a regular but boned ollie, once it’s boned in the air you will do a late motion (almost like you re trying to make a 4 with your legs/the Ronaldo chop) with your back foot so that the board will turn in bs tail position and lock itself in the ledge. Think about slamming the tail late on the ledge. First do a ollie and only then once up in the air you do this late slamming of the tail into the ledge. Trust me. The word “late” is the secret to this trick. It’s a trick in two parts: first you ollie and only then you turn in the air. Do not try already turning as you ollie. It looks like one fluid motion on videos but from the skaters perspective it’s a two part trick. Good luck.
Are these true to size?
Yes, I would say so, if anything they run just slightly small. I wear a size 10 and that is what I got. They start a little tight but stretch out.
chentralay 🤣
Wheres the video dude?

Why does everyone who teaches this trick skate goofy 😂
😂😂
bro my grip jobs suck i always just ask the skateshop people nicely even try to tip em lol
😂 I feel ya, I always seem to mess something up but still enjoy doing it.
if you the glue the rough side down so the sticky side is face up it works wayyyyy better. sorry
Yo do you have a tip i always have it whit one foot
When you land? Or when it’s sliding?
@@ConnorMcSkaten when it’s sliding
@@niekdekempe6735 It might just be that you're not fully committing, but its hard to tell without seeing it. I would just keep practicing on an unwaxed ledge/curb going slow and focusing on getting in!
@@ConnorMcSkaten yo thanks bro i got into it bc of ur tip
@@niekdekempe6735 Hell yeah!! Let me know when you land it!!
Just got a new board, and I'll be skating newish shoes on Saturday at the park. Will be trying to film lol. Subbed!
Haha hell yeah! Good luck and thanks for the sub! hopefully you're at a sweet spot with the shoes. I think shoes that have been skated a few days with a new board is the best!
My goal is to learn back tails before I turn 30 in about a year. This will help, thanks!
You got it!!!
This trick has always stressed me out😂, I can do both board slides, front smith, 5050 and crook on a rail but cannot seem to learn this
Aw dang! What is the issue for you? Hopefully I can give some extra tips!
That's a useful skill on his ' Resume ' 🤔
yo connor is mike from skate after school! i had no idea you had a youtube!!
Yo! Whats up dude! Haha yeah I've been slackin lately gotta post more for sure 😅
🔥🔥🔥🤘
Great tips thanks boss
Appreciate you watching!
What size board do you ride? You too seem pretty tall.
8.25
0:51 you were getting zero pop on that nollie back heel yet kept trying_finally landing it with zero pop🤣 I woulda just tried to pop a good nollie back 90? first then if that works move on to harder stuff no?
Honestly I couldn’t get any tricks to pop off it and just love doing nollie bs flips! All just for fun haha
Texas has some beautiful parks fr! 😭
Seriously! Wish I had more time to skate there!!
Great vid thanks, where are you eyes looking?
Good question! Going to regular i look just past my front shoulder and going to fakie i'm usually looking down at my front foot.
@@ConnorMcSkaten do you lean into the ledge? Been struggling with this for years and you got them dialled.
@@joshb9657 You at least want to have your weight on top of the ledge and almost all of my weight is on the ball of my foot. If you can have your weight over the ledge so if you fall, you land on top of the ledge, it helps with longer slides.
@@ConnorMcSkaten was trying them again today but my heel is constantly landing on the ledge, r u twisting hips only or whole body ?
@@joshb9657 to start it is definitely easier to twist your whole body and prepare to go to fakie. This will get your comfortable landing in the slide and sliding. Once you have that down you can work on keeping your upper body straight to go out to regular. Hope that helps!
Man, coming out is bar far the hardest to me. But the shortest section of your video.
Let me know what happens when you trying coming out. Hopefully I can give some tips that will help!
Is this at mitchell park in az?
It is!
U should do a front blunt tut u got ‘em clean
Thank you! I’ll add that to the list.
