Thanks. There are different ways to do that. All you need is a unique reference to apply VLookup. Activity ID is always unique.

You can import Remaining Duration as well.

I haven't kept the file but it's not a format but a logic which is explained in the video. You must understand the logic and implement to your required WBS.

@@projectplanningtacts5330 Brother i have use this and it worked , but when i went on using it again its not working, as when i try to copy the wbs using notepad there is something else coming up along with the export, which is guid, templ guid, plan open state, how to resolve it ??

@@syedobaid8598 you need to find out what you have missed or added from the xer file data except replacing the wbs part of the xer in notepad. Basically you need to only change the wbs section from xer in notepad.

@@projectplanningtacts5330 i have changed the WBS only, the main issue is when i export the xer file and open it in the notepad there is some extra columns are coming which are not symmetrical to each other , for example we have all the others columns same which we can copy and paste by adding no. of rows as per your no. of wbs, but these extra columns has some different different texts and words which are not identical, and the extra columns are guid, templ guid, open state, as the data is not identical when i copy and paste also its not working , i have shared one email along with the pictures on your gmail. for better understanding of the issue

Bro before pasting it on note pad make sure your excel stuff in text formate

I believe you might be missing something. The method is same for any XER file regardless of the p6 version. Well, I haven't tried that in p6 v21

@@projectplanningtacts5330 I created the Project and then the exact WBS Structure in P6 with 276 WBS Items. I exported the XER File, then I just renamed the WBS Name. When I imported back the XER File in P6 it says: Import Failed: The import file contains projects with invalid parent WBS IDs. The following WBS nodes do not have a valid parent_wbs_id in the wbs_id field. I just can't seem to execute this process. It is quite time consuming to manually type all 276 WBS Name in P6.

Make sure all of your stuff in excel must be in text firmate

It depends what purpose would you like to export and import. If it is only for updating the activities then the data date is irrelevant to change or not. When you export and import back with updates, you would update Activity %, Actual Dates. So if you change the data date and export with Start and Finish, you can't import Start and Finish as these dates do not change.

If you use Physical % Complete then it is recommended to export Activity %, Actual Start and Finish and Remaining duration for Inprogress activities, update these fields and import back and then change the data date.

You need to match the format between MS project export file and P6 Import.

If it happens again and again you need to check if your machine is not performing good. I don't think it's P6 issue. You may also try to uninstall and reinstall P6.

W Salam, P6 will consider first activity as resource. If you have 5 BOQ items are related to same resource then add the units otherwise if these 5 items are related to different resource then assign the different resource id to the same activity and it should work.

No it doesn't matter.

Process will remain same. You need to make sure while importing that the WBS code assign to the activity which is relevant to it.

800 was total Budgeted unit for an activity but I have assigned 2 resources onto an activity which is Technician and Helper each having 400 units. Thanks

@@projectplanningtacts5330 thanks Irfan bhai but this is uploading activities. I meant to say receiving monthly progess updates from subcontractors in excel and uploading them in p6. I have heard that big schedules like 15,000 activities. Mostly planners dont update the schedule in p6. They get their subcontractors to provide updates in excel and then planner uploads them to p6. I am sure you must have come across this.

@@nooni3420 as long as you have updates in excel, you can update those activities through import to P6. The process is same as I mentioned earlier.
