_Yikes! Talk about delusional! I mean, if Dr. Vindaloo had more common sense, he would've survived! But too bad he doesn't! Besides, it ain't his fault! It's his hallucinations that told him to cure the now wild Muriel! It ain't intense! He's a hippie, that's for sure!_ Oh, hello, boys and girls! Didn't see you there! I was only thinking of Dr. Vindaloo's sudden misfortune of becoming like a Weremole! You may think that it's not _his_ fault for stumbling upon the now wild Muriel, rather it was Courage who made him deal with her! But I think not! It's not him _or_ Courage we should blame, rather, it was his hallucinations that made him deal with the now wild Muriel! Why is that? Simple! As he's a hippie, he sometimes has the ability to see and hear things that no one else can see and hear! This is what we call a "hallucination", and they are sometimes caused by psychedelic drugs and questionable substances! Why, how about we dive into what I just said and see what hallucinations have to do with the lovable Dr. Vindaloo, shall we? But first, how about a little pop quiz? Legendary animator John R. Dilworth created Dr. Vindaloo to be... A. A regular doctor B. A laid-back hippie C. Neither D. None of the above (Put your answer in the "Reply" section! Explain your reasoning after the lesson!) Now that the brain teaser is out of the way, let's explore the phenomenon of hallucinations! What are they, you may ask? Well, a hallucination is a perception in the absence of an external stimulus that has the compelling sense of reality. They are distinguishable from several related phenomena, such as dreaming (REM sleep), which does not involve wakefulness; pseudohallucination, which does not mimic real perception, and is accurately perceived as unreal; illusion, which involves distorted or misinterpreted real perception; and mental imagery, which does not mimic real perception, and is under voluntary control. Hallucinations also differ from "delusional perceptions", in which a correctly sensed and interpreted stimulus (i.e., a real perception) is given some additional significance. Hallucinations appear in many ways (examples include sensory modality-visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, tactile, proprioceptive, equilibrioceptive, nociceptive, thermoceptive and chronoceptive, etc.), but basically, they appear through the process of psychedelic drugs! Now, what does all of that have to do with Dr. Vindaloo, you may ask? Simple, of course! Every time a psychedelic drug comes in contact with his body (either consumed, inhaled, or injected), it gives him the ability to see and hear things that are out-of-this-world! Unfortunately, no one else understands what he does as _no one_ is able to see and hear his hallucinations! Mind you, the Bagge family never understood what he _really_ does when he first appeared! Anyway, as you may've guessed, this leads to Dr. Vindaloo going on psychedelic journeys through the very kaleidoscope of his mind, there all of his fantasies come true in the blink of an eye! And as you may've guessed, this leads him to escape the humdrum and chaotic life by letting his imagination take him wherever he wants to! And his most favorite place is the jovial music festival Woodstock! How does he do it? It's easy! All he has to do is let his hallucinations do the heavy lifting, so that way he can find himself in a festival of peace and music! Now, as you may've guessed, what I just said deals with escapism, and that is the process of escaping the harsh and chaotic realities of life by indulging your brain into the wildest of fantasies, and this even relates to your fantasies taking you away from the harsh realities of life! Oh yeah! Did I mention that Dr. Vindaloo's hallucinations make him say and do weird things? It's true! His lackluster medical skills are not his own doing, rather, his hallucinations are giving him the illusion that he himself is a real doctor! I'm not lying! Check it out! As mentioned before, Dr. Vindaloo's hallucinations make him say and do random nonsense, so his signs of malpractice aren't his own doing! How shall I prove this? Let us start with his wacky sayings and catchphrases! Often, he passes off easily identifiable malignant conditions as being of no concern with the refrain: "It's nothing to worry about, nothing at all, [but] there is nothing I can do [at all]." and usually recommends his patients to "just keep soaking it" as a universal remedy. His other wacky sayings are the following: "This is the worst case of chickenpox/boli boli I have ever seen." "What is up with that?" "You need magic! "Magic must be fought with magic!" "That's a good one!" And did I mention that his hallucinations make him do the craziest of things? Heck yeah! And it's not just him trying to cure Muriel from becoming like a Weremole, they make him succumb to peer pressure and hippie traditions! You know the usual, making music, using drugs, playing in mud, and so on and so on! And did I mention that his hallucinations make him say blatant excuses just to make him escape the chaotic life even more! And this is _presumably_ evidenced why he made his final debut in "Wrath of the Librarian"! Why is that? His "promise" to meet Muriel in Fairyland was just an excuse to leave his boring job and let his hallucinations do more of the heavy lifting and take him back to Woodstock! A brilliant "psychedelic getaway" if you ask me, and it was all thanks to the wonders of his hallucinations! And besides, even though we never saw him again, I think that's ok! Why is that? Simple! Because through the power of my brain, I can picture him now, dancing in the mud at Woodstock, a flower in his hair, and a smile that says he’s found his true place in the universe!
