Water vapor's greenhouse gas temperature forcing is those reduced from more than 99% in the troposphere to 60% allowing the noncondensing gasses to be represented at 40% instead of less than 1% share they have in earth's greenhouse effect. 1970s high school earth science described earth's greenhouse effect responsible for adding 10°F (5.55°C) to earth's average temperatures from water vapor's strong greenhouse gas ability to trap inferred radiation coming form the earth's surface. In 1985 Carl Sagan testifying before a US senate committee on climate change obviously asking for scientific funding stated earth got a 30°C increased in temperature from the greenhouse effect, five times what was generally accepted and made it appear it was possible for noncondensing greenhouse gasses to significantly change earth's greenhouse effect. The behavior of atmospheric gasses had been well understood for many decades before this 1985 hearing and there is no indication Mr. Sagan's comments pertained to earth's greenhouse effect as generally scientifically described and accepted.

High speed rail isn't really competition for cars though, is it? I would imagine that high speed rail is more of a competition with airlines. That seems like a good trade. Moving urban design away from car-centric models is important, but unlikely to work in many areas where pre-existing infrastructure is thoroughly car-dependent. In those cases, which are likely a majority, electric vehicles are really the only solution. The only thing I'd add is that EVs generally compensate for the additional carbon costs of battery construction within the first couple years of average use. That number significantly drops when EVs are powered by renewable energy. I'm really glad your video touched on roads and the carbon costs of road maintenance.
