Mouse problems in your bbq? Try this..
I had problems for a couple years with mice getting into my Weber Genesis natural gas grill. I used to find dropping all over the place inside the cabinet and noticed they were coming for the grease trap. Even with the cover on tightly (I suspect they just crawl up the inside of the cover. All I could do is keep the grill pan spotless and even that didn’t fully discourage them. Tired of having to scrub my grill clean after every use, I decided to “mouse-proof” my grill with some wire mesh and high temperature silicon and high temperature duct tape. So far 12 months in and no mice, even with grease in the trap.

    I know this is a bit old to comment on, but technically chicken wire isn't small enough to prevent mice. They have a collapsible bone structure and can fit through pretty much any gap that a pencil could fit through. I am surprised this worked for you, but glad that it did!

      You’re right. I think mouse “proofing” is extremely difficult, all you can do it make it harder/less convenient. Perhaps they don’t want in bad enough to squeeze ? I think keeping the grill drip tray empty is equally important so they aren’t lured in. The mesh might be enough to stop them from exploring….

    a 32nd of an inch is NOT bad considering the entire table is like 200 bucks... I see router insert lifts ALONE selling for like 300-400 bucks... I have worked in maintenance/construction and most maintenance/construction foremen/supervisors stop caring at about accuracy around 1/8 of an inch... I've had heard "close enough, move on" a lot.

    • @kamac1980

      I hear you, but if you don’t care about 1/8” you probably don’t need a router table at all. Sweep them out with protection in disposal bags, wash and scrub the whole thing down with soap and degreaser the way lots of other TH-camrs probably better demonstrate on generally how to clean a grill. Then run the grill on hot for a bit when it’s all dried off should do the trick. I’m not professional to give absolute advice here, but I’ve heard that even just running the grill on hot will kill anything harmful in the droppings pretty quickly, so it’s more likely to be a personal preference thing as to how extensively you want to clean. Hi Kevin,, great job with the mesh,, Id like to do the same to my bbq. Just wondering however,, in your cabinet,,, you didnt cover up the smaller venting slots. I assume that mice could get through there very easily (?) Throughout the years,, I found that covering a bbq just invites rodents to visit so I stopped covering it up.... at times I'll place the cover right on the bbq lid (just sitting on the top only) but I wont cover the entire bbq anymore. Many bbq covers have an insulated liner in them,,,,, I dont recommend that at all,,, these pests will take that right off to make nests. A simple,,,, very light cover with no felt lining on the inner side (if youre going to cover it up) No need to make things comfortable for rodents. some moth balls in the storage cabinet might also help keep rodents away as they dont like the smell.

    • @kamac1980
      @kamac1980 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the silicone only because the tape isn’t that strong as you found out. Also it is less resistant to super high temperatures the bbq makes in use that will make the tape adhesive fail prematurely. Tape goes on just as a method to make the whole thing reversable. If anything you could skip the tape if you feel confident you won’t need to remove the silicone, or you don’t mind scrapping it off. Also make sure you’re using good hvac foil tape (any hvac supplier sells it).

This is true of every tool I've ever compromised on price to acquire. You are actually far better off buying used GREAT tools than brand new cheap substitutes. And they'll still likely cost more. • @kamac1980

      You have to bend it to shape so it doesn’t pull away. Let that cure strong, then remove tape from another side , silicone that and so forth. Make sure the tape is strong enough to hold it a few hours till the silicone cures.
