Beach Thick knee on Danjugan Island, Philippines
A search for one of the rarest birds in the Philippines. The endangered Beach Thick-knee (Esacus magnirostris) is one of the world's largest shorebirds weighing on average up to 1 kg. Join us as we explore it's tiny open beach habitat on the 43 hectare island oasis of Danjugan in Negros Occidental within the Panay Gulf. Thank you to the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation for allowing us to capture video footage in flight and wandering the shoreline.

    Are all of those introduced and not native?

    • @davejolly3670
      @davejolly3670 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, all except the Pacific Golden-Plover are considered exotics/introduced to Hawaii. That is why they are among the most commonly seen

    Not a single bird call. Very disappointing 😞

      Thank you for your input. It is not a video about bird songs or calls....a visual catalogue of commonly seen birds. Most of the birds presented are, however vocalizing and giving calls.

      Not a single iota of appreciation for the video posted, just criticism. Very disappointing 😞

    Kinda sad to notice the vast majority (if not all but one) are introduced and invasive species…

      That's exactly what I was trying to depict....the common birds are usually non endemics. The same can be said of many tourist destinations within populated areas,

      That's very interesting. This bird has been moving around; spent some time in the Ottawa-Carlton in August/September, then moved over to the Mississippi River in Lanark county, Ontario in October/November. It's currently in the Chatham-Kent area. I haven't seen any reports for Lynden. Thanks for your comment

    There is a really pretty birdcall in the background of #10, the bulbub. Do you happen to know what the identification of that bird is? We heard in Kuaui.

      Thank you for watching....the bird singing in the background of the Red-vented Bulbul - bird #10 is probably a Common Myna - bird #6. They have a chatty call with short notes. That's the sound being heard.
