This is a vlog of my hobbies and life as I relate to learning. In this moment I am learning guitar repair, luthier work. Goal is to build my own guitar one day in some form or fashion. As a novice and lacking the proper tools to do the job that most actual professional luthiers have, some of this is engineering my own way to accomplish a goal/job. I will be posting about house projects here and there but guitars are mainly the focus here, and even more fine tuned to acoustic guitars but I know that electrics are a dime a dozen and could help make this more sustainable in doing setups and such eventually when I have enough experience/videos to warrant my work. Just hoping to share info to help others.

I love slow motion but I never use it 😂
@@pnwpaths2925 yeah I need to use the tripod!
That's great that you want to build an acoustic, from scratch, Staley! Cheers- ☮
It's been a dream for a long long time just building knowledge and the tools and resources now to be able to do that! 🙏 Hope u r doing well my friend.
this pickguard is an amazon find fyi and the white one is from warmoth both are 8 screws I believe.
if you want measurements on this let me know, it was about 1/4 of an inch fretboard to heel difference, harley benton being longer and then at the most narrow spot just above the bridge plate it was over 1/2 an inch difference, now that I think about they feel very different when playing them. my 2 cents.
looking closely at these two in an effort to see the differences in body size, I honestly hadn't really looked very closely at this until now only realizing that they were indeed different so I guess now we all know :)!
What's different on those bodies/brigde placement so that a fender pickguard doesnt fit 100% correct? They leave a gap between the pg and the bridge...
I'll have to look at it in a bit and get back to you on this. I know the pickguard did seem to fit a bit differently than my warmoth tele that I built. Give me a few hours and I'll post back here.
@backandfour I am posting a short right now in hopes that I determined the difference in the two similar guitars but basically the Harley Benton body is larger in every way, longer and wider...I'll link the short here also in a minute.

I love this! 🎉
@@alexanderatwood8656 thanks dude!
I like seeing how into this stuff you are. It’s definitely not my passion but it’s cool seeing something from a different viewpoint.
Thanks dude! It's fun and I feel I can learn lessons that apply elsewhere! This is my video journal where I can always look back and see what I was doing. It helps me realize that I'm not wasting time despite my mind telling me otherwise..
Dang... Thank you for sharing your process. While it sux to have to restart, you're right in saying you learn valuable lessons 😊
The long form video that I'm making from this will show much more detail of the work, I probably have 1.5 hrs of footage at this point and I like to show as much as possible even if the video is super long! Thanks for the feedback you rock!!
Very cool project. Best wishes! 😊
I got the fretboard glued on but I noticed I made one mistake but I think I can recover from that pretty easily 😎
@@staleyexplores Nice 😎
Epiphone Les Paul Jr project for the win
Sounds lovely thanks for sharing! 👍😊
I've switched to a Dunlop prime tone pick and I am very happy with how it sounds
Not perfect and off the cuff for this short after playing along with Tyler Grant on his channel. Getting my practice in.
Why did I not get my notification?? Dadgummit LOL... I'll check my settings again. Anyway, you have made my day! Can't stop smiling. Sounds great! ✌😊
Everytime I listen to this song I get more and more hooked on the just everything that's right in this few minutes and hate this song isn't 30+ minutes long, ty for recommending this bc it was not on my radar. So much more to learn in this too. ❤️💯🎸😎
@@staleyexplores that is so awesome to hear. I've had the privilege of introducing this song to many people, the response has always been a good one. For some reason I particularly love to listen to it when the evenings start getting colder, it has some kind of haunting, autumnal feel. I know that's weird lol. I'll stop now 😂😂 ❤
@@1970boobear your perspective is appreciated thanks for sharing that with me
Good job
Really appreciate the feedback and you watching the short 😊
Been wanting to invest some time on this song so here it is, what a phenomenal song imho, fun and interesting to play and of course the Martin sounds epic to me even on this #pixel7 phone 🎤
I have still never been to one of their concerts. I hear them playing at the gorge is pretty awesome.
I've been to several of his shows at the gorge and it's always a good time imho!
@@staleyexplores I hear that once you go to one, it makes you huge fan 😂. Unfortunately, they do it the same weekend as PAX. So it just never worked out. Although I didn’t even go to PAX this year…
I've listened to dmb since 1995 or earlier so to get to see him at the gorge every year knowing he lives in Seattle is pretty neat for me. In addition learning his style of guitar for me is about the most fun I can have while playing this song was my first really difficult song to attempt to learn. So I always gravitate to his playing his sound and his band bc they are all superstars especially Carter the drummer.
@@staleyexplores you go every year?! Do you guys camp or just go for one day?
@@pnwpaths2925 no, not every year, we see a lot of other bands too and Dave sporadically. We generally go for one show usually and I’ve never camped, not much for that kind of thing. We might get a bnb in eburg for multiple phish shows but that’s about as much as we do for multiple shows. Phish, widespread panic, string cheese incident, I’m way more excited about jam bands live, latest craze is the band goose. We went to red rocks and the gorge which imho are the premiere venues in the US. Honestly we don’t have a ton of money so we try to be smart. If money was unlimited I’d rent a place and go see all his shows and climb at Frenchman coulee in the day if my energy was that high!
Sounds cool! Part of the melody sounds like slack guitar.
Dave Matthews being from South Africa if my memory serves me well has all kinds of global music influences, excellent ear, I hadn't heard that term and had to look it up!
I tried putting in what I thought were the lyrics and totally screwed it up. So I'm just going to say thank you for playing this! LOL❤😂😊
Such a fun song to hear and play!! Love it so much also!!!!!!❤
“Open up my head and let me out”
Well I got the title wrong, again! I should probably look this stuff up before posting, I’m bad with lyrics and song names….🤪
@@staleyexplores aaaaah So Much to Say!! Lol 😍
@@staleyexplores no stress. I'm the one who initially typed out an entire lyric from the wrong song so... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cool. Any plans for the weekend? Are you going climbing??
I'm packing to go over to eastern WA but not sure if I'll have the energy to do it or not, got some housework going on and I don't wanna leave unless we have an actual front door again. Right now it's a temp plywood situation
Sounds lovely! ✌❤
It is certainly fun for me and I'm really enjoying the non bridge doctor sound and feel of the Martin, the strings seem to bounce off the top of the guitar which is neat to experience as I've not played another guitar that had that same character. Thanks so much for your support!!
Gorgeous sound w/ even more depth 👍😊
I think so too! Happy i did this comparison!!!
Check out the related video if you have time to compare the sound, sounds so much different to me and feels different to play. Even more ringing like a bell in my humble opinion #d18
O that sounds really cool! I like the deep tones and the way it contrasts w the more treble sounds. Lots of depth!🎉
@@jennilooliver5302I totally agree 💯👍❤!!
The thumbs 👍 up on the d18 is higher now than the breedlove which is interesting, not sure if it is preferable to the breedlove or if it's the algorithm promoting this more 😂❤
Thank you 🙏 all for your feedback on this been tossing the idea around of selling this guitar and forgot how good the sound is out of this machine, I love this thing and have had it a long time only needed a feet job once so I'll be keeping this fella now for sure.
Breedlove is definitely better here
Ty for the feedback the ringing like a bell of theartin actually detracts from hearing the notes and changes a bit it's fun to see it in video for myself as well as intriguing to think that a guitar at half the price but still being American made is super cool!!
Bought a Breedlove c250/SBe used for about $300 about 5 years ago and his has become my favorite acoustic to play. They are very very underrated guitars and provide excellent value when bought used
Bought a Breedlove c250B used for $300 about 5 years ago and it has become my favorite acoustic to play. They are very very underrated guitars and provide excellent value when bought used
I bought this one new but on clearance from guitar center back in 2012. With tax it was like $1400 it's a c25/sse so spruce top and sapale back and sides, so both are mahogany like as the d18 is sinker mahogany from Belize I think. It's a custom shop that I bought used in 2021. The Martin just rings and rings for days so I have to mute it a lot more where the breedlove has that older body sound more like a Gibson IMHO. They both have bridge doctors so that's another interesting point to consider!!
Breedlove vs martin totally different sound this breedlove has that older guitar clear but also not as meddled together in the sounds or tone.
Wow awesome! I was singing the lyrics 😊❤
Yeah I love the flat picking in this song so I play it a lot. I'll probably post the same song with a different guitar 🎸 to compare the sounds either today or tomorrow and then maybe mash them together into one video or something!! Appreciate all the support and kind words!!
Epic song 😎. Hope this finds you all well.
Yup, a D18 with Retro’s is a match made in heaven!
@@Nazareth1833 definitely a go to although I like the stringjoy naturals too! Ty for the comment, hope this finds you well!

That Is a crazy sound. Very cool. Full & rich 😊
It really is! I'm just tapping the surface of what this thing can do. To think it can be used with a keyboard, bass, guitar and even drums is kinda in crazy! I'm sure there is even more to it than that that I don't realize. Very fortunate to have sold my Auden guitar and had the money for this bc it isn't cheap!! Ty for your kind words and encouragement.
