71 F100 - Fuel Sending Unit Change out and Circuit Description
Changing the "bad" fuel sending unit in my 71 Ford. I'm still not convinced it was bad, but it's good to know I don't have to worry about it moving forward. Also a discussion on this era of Ford and how the gauges, gauge circuit, and sensors work.

my decks been stained for a while now, as long as my mind
so, you should wax the deck right after building it? I'd stain it, then wax it... Am I wrong? Thanks!
Those waxes are part of the pressure treatment and natural oils in the wood.
6 months after construction
Ok
We just sand everything and then stain it. Been doing it for 25 years and never had a single complaint or call back
That's a lot of wood
@user-iu4gs8gu4o the end result is absolutely worth every last second spent sanding though. We put a splinter free guarantee on every solid wood decks/sunroom/cabana we build and the customers are speechless and can't write the check fast enough when they first see their completed new recreational area. Using only absolute top grade lumber and routing all the edges and sanding everything that it's possible to get a sander on really does pay off in the end.
People don't understand this level of pride. @@rollin18wheels
I half expected for the pause after "after you built it" to just be the end of the video.
Ya, I'll be watching for sure !!
Looking forward to this project !!
and im here like what fucking spring.. and then i remember that i wasnt sure if something went missing first time i opend this.....
How tall should the plant be when you finally put it in the ground and what time of year?
I'd recommend at least one season in the pot and plan to put it in the ground in the spring. Just remember the old transplant adage: year one sleep, year 2 creep, year 3 leap.
Beautiful! ❤
First job, empty the tray and remove the hood, then pressure wash the crap out of it, a good project to work on. O'reilly's stock a lot of parts for these, or can source them.
How long will you leave them in the pots before planting in ground ? Thanks !
Good truck
Whats the best time of year to plant these
Thanks for making these bro. I got one seed to sprout using a wet paper towel. I couldn’t find anything on seed propagation until I found your videos. I’m in AZ zone 9, I have it in a greenhouse pot now cause the sprout started to dry out. It’s doing well now. Your updates are gonna be super helpful.
Fluid film sucks. Not to mention, it smells like B.O.
Hi! I commented on your first video about just germinating one too. Mine is 5 months now and still sooo tiny. Only a few inches tall and about 5 leaves. I feel like it hasnt grown any taller all summer :( wish i could comment a picture to show you and get advice!
I would check the pot is sized correctly, the soil and nutrients are in good condition, and that it gets all the sun possible.
We have many old trees with many seeds that fall on ground. I noticed that when we had rain some seeds would get more big so I decided to soak them in water. I filled up a bowl with water and about 50 seeds and every day I check for bloated seeds. I put them in wet paper towel then in plastic bag. I place bag under kitchen sink cabinet in the dark and in about a week or less it starts to germinate then I place in small planter with soil. I am not good with tools nor scissors. This method is working for me and I’m so excited. We want to start growing more Texas Mountain Laurel trees because a lot of the ones on our yard are old and dying. This is a beautiful tree that smells so good. Thank you for video. I will try scissors again maybe for the seeds that aren’t bloating or getting filled with water.
Thank you for making this video for reference.
I planted the prepared beans in dirt filled Dixie cups. Should they be in the hot tx sun, partial sun, or shape? And kept wet (damp)?
You might have issues in small Dixie cups given the root system they make. But lots of sun and make sure they are well watered. Eventually they are drought tolerant but not early on.
Invest in some New Blades for tractor..! Save your $$ fluid film , CRC, Blasters Surface Shield all waste $$ … Clean Cutting Deck 2twice Season it last life of Equipment.. Lubricant on necessary components of deck as needed..
This wasn't intended for mower blades, those were just available scrap metal. The intention here was to test their uses for undercoating vehicles.
Do I keep them watered to the point where the seed doesnt dry out at all even after it starts growing?
Your potting soil should hold moisture so there isn't a need to water continuously. Just make sure the pot is well drained and you're using a good potting soil and water every 3 or 4 days.
I use a file and score the shell I'm several places
I've tried that before but found it slower and never had the germination rate I see with chipping the shell like I show in the video.
Wouldn't sandpaper work?
Yes but it is much harder to know when you're far enough but not into the seed itself
@@essentialhomeowner There are videos showing you how to cut the seed.
Where can i purchase the seeds? Will it grow in the tropics? I normally use a clipper used for clipping dog's claws they're extremely sharp & easier to handke
You should be able to find them online. They are native to a rocky and drier part of Texas though so you might have difficulty in your tropic climate.
Thank you
I finally used a grinding wheel to that point. I did break a seed but that was from turning the press one too many turns. I commend your patience 😊
That is definitely one way to do it! Once you get the hang of it with scissors you can get it in about 3-4 snips. But it usually takes me a few seeds each season to get back into the routine again
@@essentialhomeowner Thanks for the info! I have 2 questions. How deep do you plant them and is there any specific side that goes up? Edit: I did not see that you had said one inch in the video.
I planted my seed almost 3 weeks ago and its just now sprouting! I used a metal file to grt through the shell. I will wait maybe a week of two before transplanting to a larger pot but im terrified to kill it! Any tips? This is my very first time planting a seed lol
I would let it go longer before transplant. I would wait for at least one additional set of leaves after the seed leaves (first set of leaves that come from the energy in the seed). It shouldn't take long assuming it has full sun and good soil. This will put it in a better position for transplant where it will need the energy those leaves produce.
How long do they typically take before they sprout?
It will depend on the weather, but I typically see them come up anywhere between 10 days and 3 weeks.
Hi thanks for this video. The taprootbefore the top shoot is like acorns, the taproot of oaks is 6-8” before it sprouts above soil.
Top quality video
Maybe start some new tests from a clean slate. Most of the videos I see with fluid film, people are spraying it on pretty thick, where it has a beige colored "film". Just curious if that makes a difference.
I was thinking about another round with additional products as well, but we'll see. Fluid film says recoat annually and after 2 years it still isn't bad. But I also haven't hit it with salt spray and other nuisance either. And now we have the PB coating to try.
@@essentialhomeowner Looking forward to it!
good job more videos 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Can't wait
Very good video. Excellent job sir. Thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful!
Strength of ff is it can creep and Cosmoline can not do it. Google " 10 year of using cold galvanizing". Cosmoline in cavities is useless.
This isn't completely true. Cosmoline will creep on warm surfaces. Where I've used it I just make sure things are warmed up before putting it on and it coats everywhere without issues.
I think fluid film might be susceptible to degradation in sunlight, more so than the CRC.
I tend to agree. My results in my first round of testing showed FF fail rather quickly in direct sunlight. This round has it under an eve and facing north, better mimicking a vehicle under carriage without direct sun, but it still was the worst performance of the test.
Looking good, did you film any other repairs on the flooring / bathroom / laundry projects?
I've got some video but haven't had a chance to finalize them yet
are you sure those are rusts spots?
I think that is the start of rust forming. I have an update posting today and you can see it has progressed some into what is clearly rust.
Thank you for the video. I am working similar project.
Good luck and hopefully the video shows something useful that might help you out!
Why not put them out in the weather instead of sheltered under the overhang?
The intention here is to better mimic undercoating of a car which isn't directly exposed to sun or rain. Obviously not 100% since we don't have splashing. If you want to see what happens with Fluid Film and CRC in an exposed situation there is a previous set of videos where I had mower blades sitting in the yard. Depending on where you're using these, it is definitely interesting results.
@@essentialhomeowner thanks. I find fluid film is good for any application where it's not going to get washed off or with the stickiness doesn't matter.
Being from the city, have to say the landscape looks mighty refreshing. Thanks for the vids!
Not many videos out there on CRC. I read ONE comment saying that CRC is to thick and could creat a moisture barrier between the metal and the oil - which could cause rusting over time. Thoughts on that?
Results I've seen so far don't support that. This current test is at 580 days and the most recent video shows rust on CRC starting at the edges (which I assume is propagating in from the uncoated areas).
Google "10 year of using cold galvanizing" toward end comments. It is my test. CRC can not be moisture barrier, not even close.
Did you guys end up getting any rain down there?
We had some decent rain this spring but then it just quit! We're at about 75 days without rain and brutally hot weather for the last 45 days.
In Germany/Austria there is a well known guy who does underbody preservation with rope grease. He has astonishing results with it and it is the cheapest grease. Also comes in cans. At least in Germany/Austria. Maybe worth a shot
The last blades are "rope grease" but they are the spray can versions. I can't speak to their effectiveness yet since the black color hides any underlying rust development. But in general they seem to be doing quite well.
Thanks for the videos dude!
You bet!
I just bought 6 cans of CRC for my new 3/4 ton $50. Might have to touch up every year but I surely spend more then that in oil changes and any gas fill up
This test is at 580 days and still going well. Check out the latest video.
Very interesting! Have you considered used motor oil or cosmoline?
Maybe one day I'll get to that
CRC is cosmoline.
Maybe at the end you can try to wipe off the black residue and see if there is hidden rust underneath 😮
My plan is to eventually hit them with some brake cleaner to see what is under the wire rope coatings.
Might just be dirt on the fluid film, but it's too early to wipe it.
How are things looking these days? 😮
I just posted an update today!
