It's Time I Come Clean, I've Been Cheating on Cycling
It's true.....I have not been cycling as much as I usually do this year. Trail Running and Paddling have been taking up some of my time for adventures this year and I have been loving it! Follow along in this video as I take you on two memorable adventures from his summer. A trail run with Trail Sage on The Appalachian Trail and a paddle with Leah from Assateague Island. Enjoy!
Here is a link to The Trail Sage Video I mentioned in the video as well. Check out his channels if you have not. He has one for running, one for cycling, and also has a great podcast on cycling too!

dude! i didnt know you're trail running now! Lets gets get out!!!!
@@patrickgensel oh yeah, it's been a harsh addiction starting last year around this time! Let's go!
This place doesn't come close to the trexler nature preserve
@@WilliamBeaver-tb9nt if you're looking for fast and flowy, Trex is definitely the place!
@@coffeepoweredcyclist yeah I like the fast and flowing stuff especially the jumps and the berms
Hell, I'm 55 now and I've been doing hard tail since childhood and nothing but hard tail still to this day
@@WilliamBeaver-tb9nt heck yes! Love it!
Fantastic opening!!! lol. Trail running has been a game changer for me too... cross-training for the win! Thank you so much for an awesome day on the rocks Gary. What a full-body workout! Now I might need to get into paddle boarding ;)
Hahaha, thanks! Loving trail running, thanks for the inspiration! Paddle boarding is definitely worth a try! Let's go! Trail run with a post run paddle, book it!
@@coffeepoweredcyclist Love that idea! Although it will have to wait until summer because these Japanese legs don't do cold water ;)
@@TrailSage 😂 😆 hahaha
I miss trail running so much, but it's a no no with the new knee. Enjoy it!
@johnhinderliter9382 oh man, that's a bummer! Still crushing it on the bike with the new knee though! Rides look awesome!
Love it and the mixing it up. Plus that made me laugh hard.😅
@adamkarr4475 hahaha! Glad I gave you a laugh! 😆 🤣 😂
Great video. Would love to try that. Why do people say foil-age? ;) it’s fol-i-age
@williambutler9635 thanks! It's definitely a great loop! However you say it, it sure is pretty! Hahaha
Great video with lots of helpful info, thanks so much!
@klg8322 thanks for watching! Glad you found it useful! Ride on!
You are hilarious my dude you pick the most southern town in Maine which on the door step of new Hampshire vs actually going to iconic spots more people will travel to. I have lived in Maine for 43 years yet 98% of Maine residents stay out of bethel as it's a very dead/poor town which is only full with criminals. I live in Waterville Maine BTW so me shitting on another Dieing Maine town is normal 😂
Just did this loop today (8/13/24). Followed your loop exactly but started from the lot on 487. Laughed out loud when I got to the intersection of Beech Lake Road and Opossum Brook Road--heard Leah's voice: "a real one!"😂Great patch of wilderness! Thanks for the ride!
@kenstory4954 that's awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! Hahaha, I did take her to a real one this year, too, hahaha!
How's the drive up the gravel road? I have a fwd van rv and decided not to go last week since I didn't know what I was in for on the 5 mile drive.
@Futurestrade26 not bad at all. Sullivan Falls road is actually pretty nice, decently maintained gravel. I don't see you having a problem.
@@coffeepoweredcyclist Great, thanks for the heads up!
Just did that loop, the orange trail is no joke!
@@TheREALLibertyOrDeath for sure! It took us pleasantly by surprise!
I used to ride up there in the late 90s, there were a few trails then, maybe grown over and gone by now, along with the bike shop. It’s awesome to see a new trail up that way, I’ll have to make it up there sometime. Thanks for the video!
@PAExploration that's awesome! It's a great area with so much to offer! There still is a ton of other trail in the area, too! Maybe some of that is the older stuff you mentioned.
Awesome adventure. I live in southwest PA by the laurel highlands. Recently did my first bikepacking trip with my buddy down in the Cranberry Wilderness in West Virginia. I totally agree with you about how it’s a completely different mindset! I recommend to beginners to try to bring a buddy with you that has experience bikepacking, also that way you can each share a tent and free up room on each other’s bikes. I had such a blast on my first route and can’t wait to do another
Awesome! I rode in the highlands once, great area! It's definitely a great idea to go with someone. Freeing up any space in your kit is super beneficial! I hope to get out on another one soon, too!
would be nice if there was a local entry fee - $200 to ride in my backyard no thanks
That's understandable for sure. Would be good to have a "ride only" price point if you aren't planning on camping the whole weekend and utilizing the grounds.
Thanks for sharing all these awesome rides in PA! I can’t wait to explore
Thanks for watching! We have so much adventure awaiting us! The Loyalsock area is amazing. Enjoy!
Currently deployed living vicariously through TH-cam! Just subscribed thanks again 🤙
@@Backwater-wanderer thanks for your service!
Looking dreamy. Can't wait to get out there!
For sure! Everything is in great shape!
awesome ride and video! Making it look easy!!!!!!
Thanks! 😊 Its a gorgeous route! I'm glad I could hide my pain face, haha, because it wasn't easy! 😅🤣
Again, you're making me homesick. And that singletrack is no joke.
Hahaha, my apologies! Maybe it's a sign to head over for a visit! Those singletrack sections were a great surprise! Can't wait to ride them again!
What a beautiful course Gary, thanks for showing us around. I know how much you love Loyalsock and I can see why. You handle the trail sections and tech with that bike so well...impressive! I know how much getting b-roll is a pain, but thank you for doing it, it gives the ride so much more perspective. Awesome edit Gary! Side note, now that you have been running have you thought about entering a duathlon? I've been thinking about it myself.
Thanks so much for the kind words! It means a ton! It's definitely a beautiful area, we could spend a day out there this summer! Run, gravel, and mtb! With ice cream after! I remember in college, Bloomsburg Ecoquest used to run an off-road triathlon, kayak, trail run, mtb. That would be fun now!
omg I havent watched your videos in a while. You look so different! haha. Im heading up home (that area) this weekend, thinking of checking these trails out.
Yes, haha, getting freaky and letting the hair grow out! Definitely worth checking them out if you're in the area! McCarty Road and the sections of East Bridle trail are riding really great now, too! There was a crew doing some work on them for the upcoming Grinduro event.
It’s funny, my dream life is good breakfast on my own flat top and hours of biking. Funny how there’s kindred souls who come to similar conclusions in life. Enjoy your content!
That sounds lovely! Comforting to know there are others who feel the same way! Hehe! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the review .We hope to get more added in the near future . Also you can get 10 full miles out of riding .I`ll show you sometime
Awesome! Thanks for the work! Enjoyed our ride and look forward to getting back again!
I’m sorta new to MTBing . I m always lookin for PA SGL gated roads to explore . I really enjoy your vids .You ride in areas I usually hit . I watch them a lot lookin for new areas to ride . You put a lot of work into the vids . Greatly appreciate them . I fallowed you on Strave , hope you don’t mind .
That's awesome! There are so many great sgl roads out there! Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoy the videos and use them to find new spots!
Awesome job Gary!
Thanks! Thanks for the work you did out there too!
We had a lot of sweat, and fun building these trails! The first time dedicated MTB trails are built in Loyalsock SF! Contact me if ya want more info!
Thanks so much! Great work and amazing to see a foot in the door for mountain bikes! Thanks for your time and advocacy! ❤️
@@coffeepoweredcyclist Map is also on DCNR Loyalsock state forest website under "maps"/"Drift Mine"
Nice Gary I have seen the sign for meat trail but couldn't find any info on it any 411?
Seems like an old logging grade or old road that used to go down to the creek? Haven't tried it myself. Most info I saw on it was from hiking mitch endlessmountains.wordpress.com/2022/12/06/exploring-the-somer-brook-gorge-sgl-57/
Great info Gary thx
Thanks! No problem, hope you get out there and enjoy it!
OMG Leah at the beginning.... too funny. Great video Gary, you really do an amazing job narrating throughout. Man, I really wish these spots were closer to me. So when are we gonna see a trail running video?
Hahaha, I know we mentioned it before, but I need to get her a mic! I could probably start a whole other channel with her ride commentary! Hahaha! Definitely lucky to have some of these places within a quick drive of me! Trail running is addicting! A video about my "transition" to a trail runner may be fun!
Heading to World ends this weekend
Awesome! Enjoy it! All the waterfalls should be running nicely! Some wildflowers are already poking out as well!
your work to produce this video may be 3 years old, but it's new to me as I just learned about Rothrock MTB (I live in NoVa) and your montage of trails wets my appetite to maybe even repeat your stay at campground 23. Thank you
Awesome! Thank you so much! We always enjoy our trips to Rothrock! Definitely worth the drive! Campsite 23 is nice, close to the restroom hut and set off on its own with no other sites by it, nice spot! Quick walk to the lake for a clean off swim too!
Whiskey; packs better ; ) Looks like fun.
Cool. I rode the rail trail there but not the MTB which I'm new to. Thanks for showing. I will go soon! 4 years later the video still holds up 🙂Appreciate it.
Definitely, thanks for watching! It is a fun place to ride! Enjoy!
❤
Awesome place to ride year round ☕🍺
For sure!
What a pap!
Papalicous!
Looks like loyalsock awesome Pa.
Yep yep! You got it! Great gravel country!
Absolutely beautifully shot and narrated, but I would expect nothing less from you at this point. Happy New Year to you and Leah. This year get her to a real beach ;) I got my fat bike ready for one of your epic snow adventures, let's make it happen. Thank you for the support Gary, you make that shirt look good.
Thanks for the kind words! Means a ton! Nice! Hopefully we'll get some groomable snow before spring! We'll make it happen!
Coffee power 🦵
Coffee does the body good! 😋
We have a cabin in that area and always love gravel riding those roads in the summer. Great video.
Great area to have a cabin in! Thanks for watching! 😊
Greetings from Dallas, Pa. I was very excited to run across your video. I was just up in and around Stull Christmas time fishing Bowman Creek. How was the condition of the road back to Cider Run?
Awesome! Great spot to fish! Outside of a pothole here or there, Mountain Springs road to Cider Run and Cider Run Road itself were in great shape. They seem to get quite a bit of traffic in hunting season.
Beautiful 😍
Heck yes! We'll have to get you out here on a visit!
“You know gravel is good when they have to gate it” 💯
Hahaha 😆 😂 #truth
Definitely a bucket list ride! Thanks!
For sure! Highly recommend anything in the area!
Me and 19 others did a 3 day float from Laceyville to Pittston. Beautiful section! I would also recommend anything between Sunbury and Harrisburg. There’s over 20 island developed for primitive camping with a fire ring and sometimes a picnic table. There’s a good map for that section too.
Nice! Such a good time! We'll have to check out that stretch, we were talking about trying a different area this year.
Sir lord mikulski is top G
Why thank you kind sir!

I've been slacking big time!
Dude, you're my new bestie. I have a Beargrease and Cutthroat and always get the poops for riding trails suspensionless. Nice to see other weirdos doing the same thing!
Hahaha, that's awesome! Weirdos unite! I love being suspensionless! I also get some weird looks and questions often too! I love my beargrease and cutthroat. The Fargo is an awesome do everything steed too!
@@coffeepoweredcyclist i believe it! If I did get sus on anything, I'd probably get a Timberjack frame and go from there. But first, Growtac Equal calipers with Microshift Swords on Cutthroat. Already run Paul Klampers and Love Levers on the Beargrease; Reddish Knob was great with mechanical discs last month! Weirdos unite!
@bracket0398 nice! Sounds awesome! I want to get out to George Washington again soon, we had a blast there!
The dog is so well behaved, excellent travel partner.
She is a fantastic pup, for sure!
i rode a bmx bike from hoagland vista all the way down to the hillsgrove general store when i was a kid back in 1999. ive been thinking about doing some gravel riding here.
