DR. Zakir Hussain is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering & HOD at Loyola Academy. He obtained a PG Diploma in Cyber Laws and Intellectual Property Rights from the University of Hyderabad (An Institute of Eminence) and a Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (An “Institute of National Importance” along the Lines of IIT’s Established by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India), Jais, Amethi, and IIT Kanpur. He completed his M.Tech. from Andhra University, B.Tech. from JNTU, Kakinada, and Diploma (Chemical Engineering) from Government Polytechnic, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He has many Awards to his Credit and his Research Articles are Published in Various High-Impact Factor International & National Journals, Book Chapters, and Monographs. He has presented his research at Nearly 25 National & International Conferences, Seminars, and Symposiums.

@44:36 when you define the equilibrium curve, if you're considering the straight-line equation y=mx+c to correlate y and x at equilibrium then shouldn't the equilibrium "curve" that you drew also be a straight line and not the curve like you drew in the picture? In that case, the derivation for NTU will only be valid for the cases where the equilibrium curve is linear. Am I understanding it correctly?

Hello dear, since the equilibrium equation is given in mole ratio where as other data is given in mole fraction, we need to convert them completely to either mole ratio or mole fraction. Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Dear Sir, Thank you for reaching out. Yes decimals are possible for relative volatility. Since only when relative volatility greater than one separation is possible. We cannot expect relative volatility to be a whole number.

Sir , the equilibrium relationship was given in terms of mass ratio in this question and you have converted it to mole ratio by adjusting molecular weight. I was asking if we can convert mole ratio to mole fraction, i.e. from Y=8.734 X to y=mx
Capital Y and capital X are mole ratios and small x and small y are mole fractions. You can use the equation Y = y/1-y and X = x/1-x.
