You have more ownership of a pirated PC game than you do of a physical console game. Let that sink in.

Yes, digital is generally cheaper and more convenient, but unless you have said games permanently downloaded to your console and they don't require servers to function, then they can be taken away at the drop of a hat. At least with physical copies, the data is yours forever. No subscriptions. No servers. No copyright renewal. No frequent updates. You still have to be careful, as some physical games do require internet, so it's best to do your research beforehand. Typically though, most physical editions are free of these problems

It has been cut in half since they have cut the things coming out in physical. Not like any of the resales after COVID were tracked either.

For me, I've been leaning towards digital just because, suppose somebody robs my home, I'll be out both the consoles, and the physical games. I would have the cost of replacement for both. But if my library is digital, I can replace the console, and still have all of my games because they're tied to my account. I also can't misplace digital copies. That's valuable to me

I don't know any modern games that are physically on the disc anymore anyway. At least a hugely critical chunk of the game needs to be downloaded day one 99% of the time. I was really surprised to see peoples biggest complaint about the PS5 Pro was that Sony no longer forces you to buy a disc drive. I had no idea people still liked getting up and putting a disc into your console in order to play a game that's already on said console. I guess then you get that old school thrill of putting a scratched disc into the drive for the 15th time and hoping this is the time it gets past the start screen.

It really makes me sad tosee physical dying. I love physical media, and I try to ONLY buy digital if I have no other choice because I love just having a game on my shelf, I love the conversation piece it creates when people come over, and most importantly: digital creates all kinds of headaches when you live in a household with more than one person. If I wanted to continue my progress on say a digital Nintendo switch game, I would need to share a switch with my wife, or buy the digital game a second time, versus just having a single game card. Excellent video though, I'm glad to see people talk about this! I'm glad that even people who prefer digital are even acknowledging the issue.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like feeling like I own my games. The physical disc's are attached to any digital account, I can sell/trade whenever, and I can lend them to friends. You are peak lazy if changing discs is that inconvenient for you.

Hopefully Nintendo or other companies don't try to kill this off.

I’ll stop buying games if they stop offering physical copies. You won’t catch me paying money for something I don’t own or have the right to trade or sell when I please.

I voted for Trump and don't regret it.

I was on the physical bandwagon till Nintendo banned my Switch for having a modchip i used for overclocking and suddently i find that merely blocking my console from accessing their servers means more than half of my physical library doesn't work anymore because it all needs to download updates from Nintendo's servers to boot and i've been blocked from accessing their servers. If my console WERENT modded this would've effectively bricked it and i was actually saved by the ability to run ROMs on the SD Card This changed my outlook on game preservation as a whole and i now think that you're not really owning anything until you go full digital with copies that don't require DRM and can be played offline, anything other than this must be regarded as a temporary subscription not a purchase

Hopefully if they do get more expensive Trump will at least get inflation better under control. Fingers crossed.

Games are buns nowadays too so hopefully they make better games to offset the prices

when modern AAA Games, are OVER 100GB, and a bluray is only 25gb. Disc media is nothing more than a glorified CD Key Hash. Physical media is mostly dead, this is why the last 3 generations of consoles trying to phase out Discs. and as for nintendo, its flash media made in Asia.

it wasnt a bust for modded consoles, it was a bust for selling pirated game copies. selling modded consoles is a ok and legal if you dont include pirated games with the device when selling it.

What the guy was doing would be illegal even in the US, by selling consoles modded and advertising pre-installed games that were not purchased you're engaged in defrauding the publishers of said games, it goes beyond just doing what you want with your hardware, you sell people pirate software you get arrested, it's a fairly easy arrest at that in any country

Nintendo can cry about emulators and piracy all they want. Their stance on fan games and emulators is the reason why I haven't purchased a Nintendo product since 2019. If they want people like me to actually buy their stuff then they should take the approach of most game companies and leave things alone.

And it's worse! Basically flags any cheap game as "shovelware", from decent to great games, even games that scored high in Nintendo Life's own reviews. Even Rogue (yes, THE Rogue), the game that spawned the Rogue-like genre is flagged as shovelware.
