RETROFIX
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 มี.ค. 2009
Hello, Retrofix Here!
I've been doing retro repairs for some years now, primarily on Facebook. I do this for fun (and as a fourth job/hobby thing) because I genuinely enjoy troubleshooting and reviving old equipment whenever possible. Along the way, I'll introduce you to some of the 'witchcraft' tools I use when necessary.
Caution: I'm not a professional, so I'll admit that sometimes my repair attempts can make things worse. Please don't attempt to copy anything you see on this channel. If you try to mimic my methods and accidentally open a wormhole in your GameGear or ZX Spectrum, well, you're on your own... good luck with that!
I have a passion for repairing gaming consoles, sim racing gear, arcade machines, consumer electronics, and tools. Also, please be patient with my English (I'm Portuguese), my inexperience in lighting and video editing, and my sporadic posting schedule. I'll only upload when I have something interesting to share.
Thank you for watching,
Tad.

how about left side joycon fuse? which one is the fuse ?
I´ve never opened a left one -.-" ... sorry!
Hello. You mentioned that you used ps2ident to check the laser model, but I don't seem to find any information about the laser. There's only MechaCon, motherboard information and etc.
You need to move through the pages on PS2ident to find the maker of the laser (usually SONY or SANYO).
Ok i found label "SANYO", but how do i detect the laser model?
@@usej76 I think you need to open the console to see that.
Learnt a few things here. Thank you, just subscribed.
Thank you for the support <3
Good job. I've been scared the whole video. Now, as I have the same problem, I know how to fix it, and I know I'm not able to do it by myself
Thank you! If you want to do it yourself, don´t forget to unplug the battery first and to check for shorts before pluging it back.
@ finally I managed to do it but instead of replacing it by a new resistance i just shorted it.
@@alann0803 Thats taking a lucky shot. Sometimes it´s ok to do that but you should never permanently short a fuse, because it can be blown to save some other components upstream.
@@_RETROFIX_ Yes I know. But considering it was that or trash, i considered it was worth a try. Reading a lot of stuffs on the web, it looks like opinions differs on the use of 0 ohm resistors. Some consider it could be like a fuse, but often it's more used a jumper or in replacement of a small non-zero used during development to evaluate the current. What do you think ?
@@grin2beurope873 I think 0 ohm resistors are built different from fuses: Fuses are rated to blow at a certain current, and resistors are defined to a certain resistance and wattage. But I´m very far away from being an expert in the theme... I always see those used as a jumper to go over tracks on PCBs.
getting those screws on the inside of the door is so hard! i need a much longer screwdriver
True! After some years of repairs, you gather a pretty handfull of those for various situations, and you never have all of them covered... :)
Do you remember what previous laser you had? Thanks for answer..
I had the exact same laser. SONY KHS-300C. The console just misconfigured to sanyo laser on its own.
the only purpose of that spring was to reset the counter when the back door is open; even without it, the camera works perfectly and the counter can be used by manually pulling the metal part behind the door. The root cause of the problem is the bad DESIGN of this mechanism as you saw. Just take completely out that second spring and you are good to go. I fixed more 35 af2 like this, and you don't have to disassembly to that extent.
Hi, Can u help me have problem with battery leak and under capacitor cable get out....how I can put back ? I soldier cable but always go out ? When I hold togeter this cable camera still not working ? Any advice? Thanks
Sometimes when you are soldering into chromed metal, you need to scratch it for the solder to fix. Sometimes you also need to use an acidic flux. Those things are never too easy. You must clean everything very well and give a good clean to the contacts. Then you must solder the wires to the correct locations and make sure that they are not corroded internally (continuity testing). If after that the camera doesn´t turn on or give any signals of life, you should check if the voltage goes to the right places and then check some of the things I did on this video. I hope this helps!
Great to know it was a contact problem.
🤩👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🔥🍀
🥳🥳🥳🥳
Very therapeutic, looks like another good camera is avoiding the landfill!
I think the laser needs a pot tweak
I solved it with lenschanger.
Please tell me sir how to fix it
That problem is probably the shutter mechanism not opening. I will be releasing a new video about a similar camera but a different problem. I hope it will help you too.
I can't click photos on my nikon l35 AF2 the film comes out blank

@@_RETROFIX_ Nice to hear, sometimes Lens changer doesn't always work, if it doesn't with another PS2. The PMAP software usually fixes it.

This is my experience fixing my 30004 R japan (i guess V7 , bought it in italy) Installed lense is a 400c but different from the green board you find online, mine got an orange board This console has a modchip installed, an old hn7 or nh7 whatever.. Games were impossible to play, took ages to read cds and dvds, also original games was hard to start.. like 2 minutes to read them and most of times got red screen to insert ps or ps2 game disk. Did all things found on reddit and youtube like calibrating height, angle and cd/dvd pots ohm and cleaning, i was just passing from worst situation were no disk read at all to initial situation where original disks were almost the only one working, absolutely no burned media was working. Later today i found a video about verifying the lens part installed on the dvdrom. Checked with PS2ident from fmcb some data about my playstation to check wich lense was installed but did not manage to find the info, so i proceeded to reinstall 400c lense data on dvdrom with Lenschanger. I can tell that all burned media are working now, loading in less than 30 seconds.. never had it working so fine. From what i read can happen that dvd version data stored in rom can get corrupted so reinstalling them with lenschanger can be a solution. --------- Always backup your rom data before attempting to flash. --------- Now i'll finish to test other media, i hope will not find any issues and that this experience will help other people.
It looks very good. I'm very curious about your feedback after long use. Is it worth removing the potentiometers I have that are working smoothly?
Thank you! If it's working, don't fix it ;) enjoy while they last, and when they die, you can rely on solutions like this to keep them working ;)
Great video! I've always had a fascination with real mechanical clocks in cars, and this video gave me a deep view at how they got it done.
I´m glad you liked it! Thank you!
looks like of same movement as in the Mercedes-Benz clocks in cars in late 60's
Yes, it's similar, but mercedes uses a DC motor and have some plastic gears that break, and renders the clock unrepairable sometimes.
Keep your bl.... hands still!!!!
😂 you're right. I gesticulate and move a bit too much 😅
Same speakers, same problem! I can only connect with my iPhone. However MacBook Air does not connect. I have also Edifier D12, which works via bluetooth :)
Thanks for this video. Ive always wanted one of these cameras and i happenes to find one in my grandmothers house after she passed away recently. I was able to finish shooting a roll of film, but when i rewinded it I took a shot with no film to watch the shutter movement and the camera began loading film and woudlnt stop and the shutter button was stuck. I could immediately tell something was loose in the mechanism. I took it apart today and found a small piece of plastic floating around. After watching your video i can confirm its the exact same piece. I will comment back once i have finished the repair, thank you for saving me the troubleshooting. Ive seen tons and tons of forum posts with the same issue. "Camera wont stop loading." This is a very common issue.
Thank you! I will be posting another video about repairing an L35AF soon ;)
@@_RETROFIX_ Just took apart the mechanism and it's the same exact problem.

I'm very curious about your feedback after long use. Is it worth removing the potentiometers I have that are working smoothly?
Loved it

Thanks for making this video! Very cool and informative. I have a L35F on the way that I got for a steal because the flash doesn't work. Hopefully it's easy to fix, so while it's on it's way, I've been brushing up on different repair videos out there. This might sound silly, but I've gotten some pretty bad electric shocks in my life, so I am a bit scared of electricity at this point. So when you say to watch the flash capacitor, is it just to watch out I don't hit it with another piece of metal like a screwdriver? Or is it unsafe to touch generally? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I figured I may as well ask before I fry myself.
Flash capacitors store a big amount of charge. They will discharge-it fast to something that thouches their terminals or the open ends of the wires connected to them. Use a light bulb or a resistor to discharge it. Avoid shorting to discharge, but if you don´t have an alternative, that also works. Discharge the capacitor or use thick gloves to work on the camera. Regarding the flash repair it might be due to various things. Check all connections and solder joints first. Good Luck!
Really really great work.
Thank you! 🙏
Yup...my BT quit last week after 13mo of flawless function
It seems that this is a general reliability problem without a solution other that send the speakers to waranty.
Background music is annoying and unnecessary!
Now I know. I´m sorry. I´m trying to improve that on the newer videos that are coming soon.
@@_RETROFIX_ don't do it! Simple
Good job. But the problem could have been solved more simply. You could have connected an external aptX or LDAC Bluetooth receiver to the line input. The only downside to this approach is that you have to turn on the Bluetooth module separately each time.
Thanks! That´s another option, but you would also have an appendix to the speakers.
This is amazing, I have the exact same problem with mine and you gave me a great starting point on fixing it! Thank you for saving me probably hours-days worth of random guess work!!
Thank you! I hope you get it fixed!
@@_RETROFIX_ just got around to fixing it, thanks again for the video! Instead of installing a new spring mount like you did, I just stretched the spring onto the flat surface of the plastic frame and it worked!
@mathias-do-thing Fantastic 👌! 😀
Nice video! One question: my L35 AD shoot only with timer. I tel to move the little leverage on the left of the lens but nothing happen. Do you know how I can service and make it functional again? Thanks!
I think you need to open it up and check the timer leverage contacts. In the L35AF it only shoots without timer when the case is assembled, and the leverage contacts active. Good luck!
I have the same problem. Im a bit scared to open that thing. But checking the contacts will probably be the only solution?
@@ThaCmaro Yep. Probably the timer contacts are not making a good contact. When they are making bad contact, the machine always shoots in timer mode. I will have a video where I show something like that in a few weeks if everything goes according to plan...
Broo, 12:51 , what magnet do you use to know how to locate the poles of small magnets?
I don't understand if the position of the magnets really matters, or if they are simply inverted no matter which one in which
Hello, identifying poles of magnets is somewhat challenging if you dont have any known one to compare to. The best way for you to find out, is to solder one sensor in one pedal, and calibrate that pedal in the software while approaching the magnet by hand to the sensor and trying both sides of the magnet. That will indicate you the right position for both magnets.
My pedals were going in the trash before I found this video, you really saved me, thank you a million, I love you bro 🤩❤️💯 shotout from Argentina! 🇦🇷

Yeah, I've been reducing it in volume and quantities on the latest videos. Thanks.
I just bought the designs from you. I liked them a lot compared to another design I had, which in the end didn't last even 2 months due to the bad design since it involves replacing the original gear with a 3D one, which being made of PLA lasts little and ends up breaking.
Thank you for your support <3! I hope it works as well for you as it worked for me! Please give feedback if you encounter any problem! Cheers!
Little advice, screw transistor to the heatsink after the soldering, it will heat up quicker and alow you to solder it to the board.
Sure, thats a good piece of advice! Thanks!
I have the same issue, but with the small spring under the frame counter ring 😅 but I don’t have a micro drill, do you have any tips?
You need to find creative alternatives. If I didn't had a micro drill, I would think about using a needle or a wire, and heat it with a lighter or something. Sometimes a very small screwdriver can work as a drill on some plastics..
Cool vid man
Thanks 🙏
