    Hi guys... I think I asked a year ago, but any chance you'd be willing to share your BGG names? For years, I've been gathering data to compile content creators' top games list, and the more info I have, the better. I'm committed to publishing my results in early 2024. Right now, all I've got for the two of you are your top 100 lists. Your BGG ratings would reveal a lot more about your lists (specifically, what you left off them). No pressure though - I figured I'd ask (or, rather, my OCD kicked in and made me ask. :) ). Thanks! - Derek

    Hi guys... I'm putting together a database of board game content creators' top board game lists. It's a ton of data, but I'm nearly finished. I'm incorporating creators' ratings from BGG. Do you have any plans to do a board game library tour? Would be cool to see both of your collections. I have similar rules to both of you. 1 rule I have is 1 game in 1 game out. I sometimes do not follow this strictly but trying to keep a tight collection instead of just getting volume.

    Look at Mensa as a group for people to meet similar people. If you have 145+ IQ, you are one in a thousand, and probably not just running into others like you. Company leaders with IQs over 125, are generally bad leaders, as they are not good at communicating with employees around 100 IQ for many reasons. Imagine being average (100 IQ) and always being around people with 60-70 IQs or 130-140 IQs, would you seek out others like you? Many people with high IQs felt like outsiders, did not fit in at school, maybe did not even graduate, being bored first half of school and simply giving up as it seemed like a waste of time. The people in Mensa are a broad group, but probably were missing something in their lifes, and remember there are vastly more high IQ persons not joining. Mensans are not claiming to be better just different in some aspects.

    I played Magic the Gathering for 25 years, and quit and fell in love with Keyforge. The game gets undermined by Magic players by saying that there is less skill in Keyforge but the reality is that the diversity of Keyforge is far more challenging than playing a set meta. Magic the Gathering is basically playing a preconstructed deck with small options in a large competitive tournament. That doesn't happen in Keyforge. Also it is hard for MtG players to switch their mentality to a rush based game vs. a countdown of life. Most players in keyforge don't practice enough to be able to find the lines that some decks have. KeyForge values the repetition of playing a deck, and not ignoring the fact that there are "better" decks, there are no perfect decks that will win over 90 percent of the time in a competitive meta. I could go on forever but I fully understand that appeal to both. I loved MtG but Keyforge is all about the road and repetition. Keyforge is just as competitive as Magic and maybe more so. It is just a different type of game, and the bias that comes from the 25 years of gameplay is hard to let go. Familiarity breeds complacency and most MTG players solve nothing they mimic the pros, and people who actually solve them. So that point is moot to me. The cost of MTG is also insane for new players. Keyforge will payoff in loads if you spent a tenth of a proper Modern deck. I am always willing to debate this as I run leagues and have podcasts, I love Keyforge because I was able to see the value, and I love both games to a degree but I am all KF at this point. Magic is a money vacuum that is almost impossible for a casual to be competitive in when you look at the cash that goes into it.

    • @everydayboardgames
      @everydayboardgames 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your well thought out comment. I as Daniel 1 (bigger and hat wearing one) that Keyforge is about learning your deck and repetition is the name of the game. We just want to give a fair comparison to both and try to inform as best we can. Me personally I like Keyforge more and like to learn my deck to get better. Again thank you for your comment it is appreciated

    • @5PKF
      @5PKF 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@everydayboardgames it has sparked me to do a similar podcast and bringing in another MtG convert to have a more rounded comparison and try to squash some of the thought process as a person more informed on keyforge and the way it's played. Its a different mindset from MtG and a lot more diverse. MtG competitive is all about metas and there are maybe three to four decks you will see in the cycle each go and they resolved by the LSVs if the community the top one percent then everyone rushes out to match that deck idea. In keyforge there is no prepared meta and competitive is all about micro decisions and line selection the best players can see when you made a critical error that snowballs into your loss. Sometimes it happens very early. In MtG you can make a mistake and fix if as you go easier than you can in Keyforge. Keyforge punishes mistakes much more aggressively than MtG

    One of the major deciding factors for me deciding on what to back is the likelyhood or un-likelyhood that it will make it to retail. The less likely it is to make it to retail, the higher on the list it is to back. For 2 main reasons; 1. the nearest game store is an hour away, so on the off chance a game DOES make it to retail the odds of me getting out to the store are slim, and 2. assuming the game doesn't make it to retail, and i want the game later my only recourse will be a third party seller (like ebay or such) at the risk of an exorbitant mark-up. Some other factors include how much the theme and aesthetic appeals to me, what kind of exclusives there are, and can it be played solo (I look almost exclusively for games that can be played solo, with the sole exception being Ankh because the Egyptian theme was too cool to pass up).

    • @everydayboardgames
      @everydayboardgames 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is all really good reasons. As for your reasoning for Ankh can't blame you. Sometimes a theme or Designer will having us back a Kickstarter or 2 we shouldn't.

    It was actually really fascinating hearing Curt's thought process regarding the raven in Nevermore because (and I'm not sure any of you are aware of it) there is an old movie called The Raven (very loosely based on the Poe poem) starring Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and Peter Lorre where they play 3 sorcerors and the film starts out with one of them having been turned into a raven by one of the others.

    • @everydayboardgames
      @everydayboardgames 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curt is a great guy and it is always fun to talk with him about board games. As for the movie you mentioned it is on one of the Daniels list to watch since he enjoys movies especially classic horror movies. We will let you guess which one.

    Good video and interesting idea! I think that Carcassonne 3d idea would be awesome! My idea would be a cross between dominion and terraforming mars, I imagine terraforming mars board and end game conditions except with about 10 projects in the center of the board that every one can buy and have access too these projects ( perhaos about 10 projects per stack idk) no idea how it would end up but probably bad lol. I think the dominion catan you mentioned could work well also
