This video is a live recording of a 3-wedge Toe being made on a Circular Sock Machine. The Impromptu audio narration is supported by Text Banners along the bottom of the screen. There are several videos in this 3-wedge series. They include the shaping of a Heel, Toe-up and Toe-down using wedges instead of straight-line short rowing. This video was made for Members of the CSKM society as an educ...

    IDK, the start up device seems so much easier than the bonnets.

    Don't bother spending the $'s on a crunchy - an onionor orange/fruit net bag works fine .

    Love this video - trying to share on the CSKMS website, in the members' video section, but unfortunately, it is set to only play on youtube - can you adjust settings to allow for embedding? Thanks

    Your video is excellent, clear instructions and very easy to follow. Thankyou I was able to start knitting.

    I'm excited by this idea, but I'm having trouble following the instructions. Do you have a bullet point step list for this technique, without narrative? My 70yo brain requires simplicity.

      Same here, am having trouble following it and writing it down to be able to reproduce

    Thanks. Why not just put every other needle out of work? Instead of out completely?

    • @Apfelkiste
      @Apfelkiste ปีที่แล้ว

      not even this is necessary, just cast on every second needle or more, after a few rounds every needle is in work

    I can see that the soft weight is made from an old sock but what is inside??

    Last spring when I made this video this 3 wedge method was new to everyone, including myself. This video was made just after I worked most of the steps out over the winter of 2016. I now use this method all the time and will be making more videos that show it without all the confusion with the different colored ends or uncertainty on the transition between and at the end of each wedge.

      I have another video showing the wedge method of shaping a heel or a toe. It is probably easier to follow because it does not use different colors per wedge so there are no yarn ends to add to the confusion on the corners. The self striping yarn does make the wedges more obvious. This video just got posted 2 weeks ago; it uses my Tuttle CSM that has a 66 slot cylinder and 22 slot ribber cone. It is posted on my ColoradoCranker TH-cam channel with my other Tuttle Videos. This method of using wedges is very trouble free when you use the soft weights on top as shown. Because there are only 2-needles lifted out of work on each side at the start of shaping and all the rest get lifted at one time, the most common problems new crankers have with dropped and incomplete stitches is no longer an issue. So I strongly encourage new crankers to carefully watch all the wedge videos then give it try. Wedges produce a full rounded toe and heel that looks good and fits many feet very nicely.

    What size cylinder are you using?

    • @TheColoradoCranker
      @TheColoradoCranker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was a 64 slot cylinder😬

    • @mellie5683
      @mellie5683 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I'm using a 54, so does that mean I only push down 2 needles at the end instead of 3?

    • @TheColoradoCranker
      @TheColoradoCranker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on where the Heel mark is on your cylinder; how many needles are being shaped. It does not matter how many are left, just put down the needles that remain.

    Thank you so very much, Candy, for this new method of making the heel and toe. Apart from the ease and speed of making the heel, is there an advantage of doing this method, ie wearability etc. ALSO where can I get that clamp you showed at the beginning of the video? Thank you. Mary-Ellen

    • @TheColoradoCranker
      @TheColoradoCranker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya! Get the clamp at Home Depot! When you use soft weights this toe and heel shaping method is easy and trouble free. Because you shape just the first 2 needles of each wedge, then lift all the others at one time, this method totally eliminates all the headaches of constantly adjusting weighted forks or hooks.
