What's Up Everyone. Welcome to my channel.
I own a 1998 BMW Z3 that I love owning but it can be a diva.

Fixing This On My BMW Z3 AFTER A YEAR
There is an easy fix for your leak... just search and you'll see it
I looked through all of your videos... have you noticed how most of the titles are Negative... I bet most people like to hear about positive things... like how to fix a problem... if your brakes are bad... fix them... show how you fixed them... look on TH-cam for that leak at the corner of the windows then fix it... show how you did it... take a hose and try to get it to leak to show if you did it correctly... I just recently picked up a 1996 Z3 and the first thing I did was search for fixes for issues I don't have yet so I know what to do... how to do mods and upgrades... I found your channel when you we showing your soft top getting repaired... but you missed the big part... never said which top you bought
Original 2018 Honda Clarity Touring owner here. The Clarity is an amazing vehicle. I absolutely love mine, and refuse to get rid of it. I will drive mine until the wheels fall off. The reason for the small gas tank. Honda used the chassis for 3 different versions of the Clarity. Hydrogen, Pure EV (90 miles of range) and PHEV version. The first two models were mainly sold in California and maybe Oregon, whereas the PHEV version was sold in all 50 States. If I could have one wish - it would be for Honda to have continued development on the Clarity. It could have been so much more! I think production was stopped in '21 and only 22,000 Clarities were sold in total.
That makes a lot of sense. I never really considered that. I think the BMW I3 was the same way comparing the EV to the PHEV one. I wish Honda continued PHEV technology but maybe not the Clarity. The community around the car feels like an authentic car community like the one around the BMW Z cars where you don’t see them everyday but, when you do, it makes your day
These older cars aren't expensive to work on... just do it yourself and keep up on the maintenance... listen and pay attention to changes that happen right before a part goes bad... big thing is make sure the coolant hoses are in great shape etc etc... and for me enjoy the car and have fun with it but don't push it to it's limit.
I don't know why other people Z3. Have problems like often. I got my 15 year ago. The only thing I done to it, was put a new clutch at 120k miles. That is it. I have a 1997.
The reason he cannot determine as to why he loves the car is...he has fallen for the "false charm" that BMW in general, wants folks to fall for!. Good styling, supposedly great German heritage, and the "pride" of owning a BMW....None of those reasons should ever be considered serious, when purchasing a BMW.
Your winters look nice, what state are you from?
Where did you get the seat covers?
The previous owner got them but I believe they’re from Amazon
ok but ur in a warm climate
Depends on the day, I’ve had days in the teens this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes back down as winter progresses
Get a new soft top too man, Jesus wept. EBay, choose the colour and fit it yourself
Damn, I just replaced it too lol
Sounds like the engine needs a proper service bro. I get 35-36 miles per gallon on road trips. Even more chillin at 60mph. Use the good gas too.
Wow. Never seen one get that high before. My car is definitely due for a service and, soon, it’ll get it. It’s due for some service 100%
Worried about people being idiots. Look in the mirror dude.
you just aint built for cars with soul
I got a good laugh from this. These are standard maintenance. The top and glovebox he got cheap and then complained. Lol then he talked about bird poop. Oh my!
I got a good laugh from this. These are standard maintenance
Didn't do your due diligence, did you? It's your own fault!
Unsafe 😂 . It’s built like a tank your just a chi chi with an auto. 40-50 track days in mine and I love it.
big mistake to buy automatic , sport car should be gear
Sell it to someone worthy.
I was interested in what you had to say. Until you shifted into P
Bro brings one of the easiest beamers to work on on your own to a shop for its maintenance. Learn it and dont complain about not knowing
So...its the german miata which is a auto. The inline 4 is attually the better engine of the few motors it has gotten. The inline 6 has issues due to cylinder wall issues. The srs light is common due to the part being non replaceable. So its rare to find them without it. Its also a auto so its not fun. Theres also its a soft top. They do have hard tops but soft tops will have more issues then your regular hardtop car. When you dont drive it, car cover or garage or a overhang parking spot whrre its covered. Door handle issue is common on them like e36. Not to much of a issue imo but you give a fair point to a perfectionist. The traffic? Is just terrible in the US. They give anyone a license. Even though im apart of the young and stupid and get into car accidents (thank you women for being oblivous on your phone while driving) but its being a "defensive" driver. No matter what car im in, i always watch what im doing and what people are doing around me. That guy likes to ride the white line? Speed past or slow down and merge into another lane. This dude wants to ride me like a prositute? Move over or speed off. The z3 was competition for a miata and it kinda worked. What killed it was the inline 6 having nickle seal cylinder walls. The inline 4 in these are slow yes, but are reliable asf. And with bmw its gonna be a slightly higher maintence cost. Mainly cooling system and oil leaks. And this motor specifically, vaccum leaks under the intake mainfold. But old car things so its kinda fair. Just gotta know what your getting into when buying a said car. Ive owned a 83 bmw ( terrible mistake but learning experience) a e46 wagon (loved that thing as i could drift at a track and drive it home without issue) and now a crappy e36 compact thats been tossed and abused more then the girl around a football locker room. And hopefully soon into a 96 z3 i4 manual. Ive dailyed a miata for a while and it was so much fun. Somewhat anxiety inducing yes but very fun.
Great video. I have a 1998 Z3 four cylinder. Currently, sometimes she starts and sometimes she doesn’t turn over. I’m thinking it’s the fuel pump or the crankshaft position sensor.
Listen for the fuel pump... it will make a sound before you fully turn the key... No sound... no start... I just got a 1996 and mine does this... but we noticed with no start there isn't the fuel pump sound... fuel pump is an easy fix in these cars.. it's in the trunk
looks like a mid off. miatas are old and stale. poverty spec cars going on an old and tired meme
I too have mixed emotions about the focus st they look good but at the same time I’ll pull past em and they just look weird from some angles
That’s also true but I feel like you could change the look of the car for not too bad but I still understand what you mean. It does have some awkward angles
100k GR corolla?!?
I know right?!! I don’t know about you but for 100K, I’d rather have a Gallardo for that money
I found one just like mine at a junk yard and immediately bought it off them for parts. You never know when you need parts
Yooooo w bro I go to morrisville too I think I saw you z it was really nice. Also did you see the c2 stingray!
Unfortunately, I don’t recall seeing a C2 but I’m happy to hear that
Love the body lines but I'm good on ALL of the convertible's TOPS LEAKING. This is preposterous from a Beemer
Dude coming from a guy that’s had multiple Golf Rs, sti’s, evo’s, focus rs’s. If you can afford it get a 2006 or older evo it’s the last of a real drivers cars. The only newer hatch that’s even close that performs amazingly similar is a focus rs I walk golf Rs and stis on the track. All newer cars have so many nanny’s that won’t let you drive spirited anymore evos and focus rs are very limited cars they are great investments vs others as well and not every has them anymore! Your on the right track don’t bother with a ST. RS man is where it’s at. Good luck brother -GOD SPEED-
That’s fair. I’m gonna level with you, I don’t fully understand the Focus RS hype but I haven’t spent much time with one. I’ve never really considered an Evo before. I’ve never been a fan of it’s design or interior and never considered it for a daily as a result but I’ve always seen its cult-like following and love cars with that cult following
Spoken like a true boomer... Imagine all that to look at the rear of a Tesla
W vlog ❤
Aye. Thank you dude
I am still looking for one these, but in the mean time I brought a Z4m roadster...and a SLK55AMG, both girly cars too... still I think these look cool, but it has to have six in it, BMW really can do a great one...thanks for the review...
Thanks for your comment. Congrats on the Z4M and SLK, they’re both great cars as well and I was considering their base models when I was looking at cars before my 3
How does your subwoofer sound?
It’s good. It’s great in the car but it’s not obnoxious for those outside. You still get to feel the bass and it’s nice
You sir....are an idiot....
well just about every car has air coming out of their vents even on the 0 speed setting, cause the radiator fan is always gonna be pushing a bit of air into the vents
The flashlight on the key is to see where is the keyframe on the handle naaack then there was no remote unlocking.
It’s for all genders. It’s a beautiful car.
Valid
A lot of the 1999-2004 Ford/Volvo cars had that same GM Automatic transmission. When you city drive a lot man you will feel those 1st and 2nd gear clunking and banging like no tomorrow and those GM transmissions were also absolute dogs with the 4 cylinder Z3s at least.
Exactly. I’ve learned to never use that again. I’ve looked at Corvettes and I will never pay attention to a 2005 cause of that trans
pretty sure the ac on is to defrost the windshield, also the flashlight maybe to see at night? idk
The flashlight is gimmick but it’s intended purpose was to provide light to see your key hole and ignition in the dark
lol first lets start off that you purchased an automatic.... you failed right there... then to say its outdated, no crap its 26 years old what did you expect... then you had to really top it off by buying a 4 cyclinder let alone in an automatic. the only person that failed here is you lol NOTE TO VIEWERS... DONT BE THIS GUY. do your research before buying. these cars are great when properly spec'd
Do not sell the Z3 for a Miata. The reason being that you're not going to find a Miata outside of the newer models that haven't been abused and clapped out. Miatas are often the first car for a car guy and they will do anything and everything to that car and a lot of times they go as cheap as possible on their modifications and it's just something you do not want to get into. The Z3 is also a great first car because of how easy it is to work on. You just need to not be scared to try learning how to work on it yourself. All cars break down and all cars are expensive to fix. If you go to a mechanic that's reality. Paying for the convenience and the skill set of another person versus doing it yourself on the low. And I hear what you're saying about safety. I gets nervous with my Z3 which is why I don't drive on the freeway with it. However, you can be in the top rated safety vehicle of the year and still die in a car crash. I daily drive my Z3 and I enjoy it. I get plenty of comments from people at work because the car is unique. Enjoy the car and learn from it so that way you can gain the skill set you'll need for your next car. Don't waste your chance to learn how to fix a car with such a easy to work on car because your newer cars you're not going to want to fix yourself. Trust me.
My BMW Z3 is the first car I fully invested in working on myself 100%. The cost to fix this car is actually quite low if you're not going to a mechanic. I replaced the soft top on the convertible by myself and spent maybe $800 total because my local convertible shop wanted $4K and that wasn't an option for me. This car is very easy to work on, especially if you're someone who doesn't know much about cars mechanically. It's a great car to learn how to fix cars with. I've learned so much in the 3 years I've had my Z3 just fixing issues on it by myself.
I completely agree with you; my 2001 Z3 3.0i is also the first DIY car I worked on, and it couldn't be any easier and more reliable . I've been owning my zed for 3 years now as my daily, and also I've been to a track day, and it holds up very nicely. The real downsides for me (if any) are the fact that you have to keep an eye on the rust and try to contain it as best as possible and the fact that squeaks are coming from new places in the interior every month 😳
Great videos. I own a 98 Z3 in black.
Thank you thank you. How’re you liking her?
I have no idea why TH-cam recommended me a video with such little views nonetheless im happy they did, awesome video
My Beemer-nut buddy even said their maintenance costs are preventative. Glad I watched your vid but I already told myself that it has to be a stick and I assumed they all had a six cylinder.( No 4 cylinders for this cowboy ). Plus I would've thought that being of German heritage that a leaking drop-top would not be a concern? Thats LAME
REALLY lame
This guy want to tell us all about his life, his friends, his garage, random buildings, himself, and on and on. Why does he title the piece "BMW Z3"?
Am glad you're keeping your Z3 I like everything you shared about it the ones that don't get it because they don't know what it's like to drive one no matter what kind of problems they may have it could be fixed and so much fun to drive with the top down I love my Z3 yr 2000 5-speed and I won't give it up either I have another car for a daily driver but if I can drive this as my daily driver I would but every chance I get I do drive it keep up with your good videos I like watching them all.
Gay
Bought mine in 2021willlI will drive it till the wheels fall off. Best car I've owned
