Imo, the finals have been mid not because they’re 1 leg, but because they’ve rarely been a matchup of the two very best and most deserving teams. Random draw often gave certain teams an easy road to the semis and/or final. The new seeding system for this years UCL knockouts is likely to change that. Ive heard people say that seeding is bad bc teams like Dortmund and Inter won’t make finals in that system, and while that could be true, shouldn’t we want our underdogs to earn their way to the top? Not just get by off an easy side of the bracket. To me, 2022 Villarreal beating Juventus and Bayern to reach the semis is 10x more impressive than 2023 Inter beating Benfica and Milan to each the final.

I think this is a good take, they do it in the Asian champions league and it works well. I also don’t like neutral finals venues because the atmosphere is worse than a home venue. Just let whoever finished higher on the table host the 2nd leg of the final and the problem will be solved.
