Just a last minute trip to test out our gear.

why do i think this is kindov stupid.. the pla filament and all the others are very sensitive to temperature. And I am just imagine riding the bike for 5 minutes at 40 or 20 mph.. is just not making any sense but stupidity. you will have to put the old magnet back asap :))
Well had 4 of these fitted to all four of our bikes now for a few years done lots of klms on them with no problems. Please note that our type of riding the speed varies a lot and we don’t spend extended periods of time at max speed . In summing up We love this product and when we get any further bikes it will be the first upgrade.

Probably because the trans oil is supposed to last life time and the transmission is not supposed to be serviceable

How did it go with using the Penrite mercon LV oil? Did it shift smoother/faster than the factory oil? I think the factory transmission oil is castrol rebranded motocraft mercon LV.
It did seem to be a smoother shift weather but is just cleaner oil or better quality of oil

Are you using loaded shocks and leaf springs in the rear for the camper if so what brand? Have a slide on camper as well but rear end sags down quite abit
Thank I have old man emu springs and shocks in the rear the springs are 600 klm constant load rated and I have Firestone air bags inflated to 38 psi when camper is on and let air out with no camper. The ride is very stiff with no camper but good with camper on Hope this helps you Also I like the old man emu leaf spring pack they are quiet and have wear pads between each leaf

Thanks Jerry I’ve only used it a couple of times and it is great to use and dry in weather seems to be well made. I used the brake specialist in lismore they are called Halray brake reconditioning. They copied the old piston. Try a brake reconditioning company

Well, godda say.. finding this randomly on TH-cam was kinda heartwarming. :) Concise, short, positive but with a small mistake during installation. You left the Shimano washers underneath the bolt heads and you didn't perform the "empty device test" which would've probably indicated the problem right away. How this is meant to work: the upper surface of the rotor has to be clean of everything, including the washers which are actually 0,5mm thick so they'll be pushing the whole sun gear assembly up by 0,5mm at the same time you're trying to fit the ring gear (cover) to a proper installation depth which is designed to be 0,5mm less. So, your sun gear and ring gear (black parts) are almost certainly in contact now and they should never be in contact. So, pop on the external magnets so the planets stay in position, remove the ring gear by gently pulling and wiggling at the same time. Then remove the sun gear, remove all the washers, tighten all the bolts down again, re-install the cover with the planets. The "empty device test" is basically installing the ring gear (cover) without any planets and trying to spin the end cap of the hub. If there's scraping sounds of plastic on plastic, the black parts are in contact. What happens over time is that the sun gear (part held on the rotor via 3 bolts) is constantly trying to "drive" or turn the ring gear because of the frictional contact at the outside edge (teeth of the ring gear are touching the outer edge of the sun gear base). Since this contact is happening at a diameter of ~70mm and the press fit of the ring gear is holding at ~19mm, the leverage the frictional force has over the press fit friction is higher and over time the press fit will basically start to slip and the ring gear will start to move. Once this happens a myriad of problems can happen: since the ring gear should be a stationary part, if it's moving then the planets inside can appear to stand still while the bike is moving and they're not passing in front of the sensor and you get errors. Other option is that the planets are now simply squeezed between the black parts and since they're made of a softer material (to not be so noisy), they can thin out until they're no longer properly engaging the teeth of both black parts etc. I'd ask you to send me photos of the internals of all 3 devices via email and during removal of the covers please pay attention to the amount of force it takes to remove/install it onto the hub end cap. As you mention in the video, this should be rather tight, if it's sliding up and down the end cap too easily then it needs to be replaced. Not a problem and I do extend a 50% crash replacement discount when mistakes like these happen, it's just important to understand why it happened so it doesn't happen again. Other than that, PLANET3 is designed to never wear out so long as there's the 0,2mm gap between the black parts that's designed into the device (this takes into account the variation in thickness of the most common brake rotors which goes from 1,8 mm for flat/one piece steel rotors up to Shimano XT that you're using which is 2,05 mm). As far as your 23 km/h problem goes, I suspect your bike's wheel circumference might be set to a slightly different value than the actual size of your rear wheel is. All the bikes for Australia and EU/UK should be at 25 km/h and the manufacturers limit the possible circumference of the rear wheel to somewhere around 2000-2400mm. So, if a 29er rear wheel is say 2350mm in circumference (depending on the tire, you can measure this with a tailors tape measure or just wrap a piece of string around the centerline of the tire and then measure the length of that with a regular tape measure) and the wheel is set to 2350mm in the firmware of the bike/motor - then all good. When you are at 25 km/h it will actually read 25 km/h, but if the wheel is set to a slightly larger value then your bike will indicate 25 km/h speed internally but your Garmin will be showing actual speed if it's using GPS which will be 23 km/h. The way to correct this is to have the service center set your wheel circumference to a correct value. If you'd like to gain a bit more speed and the shop is friendly, ask them to set the value of the wheel circumference as low as the software will allow - basically making your rear wheel an effective 26" diameter. This will push the values into the opposite direction and will gain you some real world speed compared to when the bike measures 25 km/h internally. Since 25 km/h is 6,94 m/s if your rear wheel circumference is 2300mm the wheel is doing 3,02 rotations per second. Now imagine 3,02 rotations per second using 2000mm and you get 6,04 m/s which means the bike thinks it's going ~21,7 km/h and will keep pulling until 25 km/h at which point you get ~28.7 km/h of actual real life speed. TL;DR = wheel in the software of the motor should be as small as allowed. As far as Garmin goes, you can actually make your Garmin use the wheel speed sensor data from the bike via BlueTooth/ANT+ (if the bike supports this) since that'll be more accurate than GPS, but obviously with the PLANET3 on the bike it would show a value of speed that's ~66,1% of real. However, there's an easy fix for this: Garmin allows you to set a wheel circumference in the Garmin device itself. So, since the ratio of the PLANET3 for Giant e-bikes (with dual planets) is 1,512:1 you basically take your "real" rear wheel circumference and multiply by 1,512 and Garmin will start showing correct speed using the bike's speed sensor. If you ever use a single planet configuration - which you can freely do in Giant e-bikes, so long as you won't be climbing anything steep or technical (meaning below 4th or 5th gear let's say) and this will get you a 3,03:1 ratio and the speed limit goes all the way up to ~76 km/h. This is good for bike park days when you want to have assist when going downhill and clearing features where you need to throw in a crank or two in between jumps etc. but pedaling uphill is happening via relatively flat fire roads or tarmac (or you're being shuttled). In this case, value of wheel circumference in Garmin gets multiplied by 3,03 to make it display real values.
Thanks for your reply and very well explained advise and your right I have left the washers on the disc bolts I don’t know why I did that . I will fix that soon as I get some time and send you some photos . I will make a supplement video and post with original video with the removal of the washer and the empty device test. We now have 4 giant reigns all with planet 3 devices on in our group of riders . I am remember telling the boys to remove the washers . So I think I am the only one who still has them in there.
We all think that planet 3 works very well and recommend it . I have since found out that there is a problem with my Garmin it is recording less distance than my mates Garmin and we both traveled the same distance . So that’s something I need to get fixed and may explain why in seemed to top out at 23 rather than 25 🤷♂️

Top video, I like the use of vise grips and a big arse screw driver to connect the battery’s, shows examples of what you can use, looks like you do a bit of remote travel. You mentioned not to use lithium, only lead acid and agm for welding, but I’ve been reading lithium is good for high discharge use so I’m wondering why lithium wouldn’t be better suited for emergency welding.. I’m not electrically or electronically minded and I’m colourblind so I don’t experiment with them much but have a basic understanding. Cheers
Thanks glad you liked the video l was under the understanding that lithium did not like high current draw . That’s why they haven’t been popular as cranking battery’s but I could be wrong Besides they are expensive rather use cheap battery’s or ya mates battery😜
@@walkaboutturtle9102 yeah true they’re not used/recommended for cranking.. I will be setting up my camper with solar and batteries so lithium v agm is topical atm. AGM has the welding capability and cost pro, and lithium has weight, longevity, charging, discharging, usable capacity for induction hot plate, kettle toaster etc use pro. I’m convincing myself lithium is the way… have to do a bit more reading. Cheers

I've got the alko type like you have, but I bought the calipers with the stainless piston inclined from new about 4 years ago.. However, out of the 4 calipers on the trailer, I've always been having trouble with 2 of them constantly not retracting.. After talking to a few other boaties I have since found this is a common problem with the alko brand calipers, I've heard that skimming the piston a couple of thou or less will fix the problem, going to try that next Otherwise, if there no success, I'll be cutting off the mounting plates and changing caliper brands altogether. I'm glad you were able to solve your problem, potentially having them specially made was a good choice. Cheer 🍻

You can change it back but you have to remove back wheel and put original magnet back on . It’s not something you can ditch on and off quickly

Yes it works on the 2020 and the 2022 nicely we just finished 4 days of riding in Derby Tasmania mud grit and rain aswell as nice days and performed faultlessly. You forget what it was like before until you swap bike with a unrestricted bike and can’t get past 25 ish klm
After our last ride in Tasmania I couldn’t be happier with the planet 3 system.

I'm throwing a 38t Crank ring on my front gear and was wondering about this for my levo to go with the new ring. What you're getting out of this adapter, is that you can get longer assistive peddling when coming down a hill to get really fast jumps? What about on flat ground. It's like a few extra bits of speed while cruising? I just don't fully grasp what the end result is.
Yes the assistance gets me past the brick wall it hits at about 25 klm and assisting me to about 32 . It makes a big difference and is more ride able

@@walkaboutturtle9102 how has it gone over time. Just wondering how much dirt gets into the casing and possibly fouling those small gears. BTW i have the same bike and it s definitely set to top out at 25.
@@theveryaverageelectricmoun8879 seems to be going fine . It’s not a area wear dirt seems to accumulate. And I avoid ridding in mud and slush. Must be something wrong with my Garmin gps because my bike toped out at 23 . But 23 or 25 who cares it’s a big improvement now and no annoying top out
@@theveryaverageelectricmoun8879 So, it's designed to be almost fully enclosed and the only gap is the 0,5mm around the circumference at the back of the device (facing the rotor). Some fine dust gets in but it also gets out and doesn't really affect the operation of the device. So long as it's installed properly and the main large parts are not in frictional contact, it should basically work forever. Don't put any grease in as it just forms a friction paste and depending on the base of the grease it can actually start to dissolve the polyester it's made of (it has 10% carbon fiber in the material, too). For people in very cold weather conditions such as Finland, Sweden etc. if you're using the bike in snowy/icy conditions it's recommended to spray only the internals with silicone spray and wipe dry with a paper towel. This forms a hydrophobic layer which basically prevents ice crystals from forming. This isn't an issue so long as everything is moving, but if the bike is left in the cold with water/moisture inside the device it can "weld" the planet to the rest of the parts when it freezes and then as you get moving again the planet will come apart as the "weak link".
