    Really cool vid, this was National Tube that was in McKeesport? I went on a road trip to Pittsburgh about 20 years ago, all through Homestead, Duquesne, McKees Rocks, Aliquippa, McKeesport. I was taking pics of any industrial remains I could find. I desperately wanted to go into some very old buildings in McKeesports old National Tubes buildings, but there was very tight security. I saw what looked like a very old house or wooden building mixed in very old brick buildings that looked like old, original buildings from before National Tube and US Steel Corp. They were across a very large concrete open area, close to the river. Security was so tight I never could get into see those buildings and would bet they are long since torn down now.

      Thanks. Its a representation of National Tube, not a meant to be an exact model. It represents various aspects of steel making in the Monongahela Valley in the 1950's.

    As a kid (2nd-4th grade back in the 50s) I actually lived in McKeesport. I remember the steel mills and riding the RDCs to Pittsburgh. Thanks for sharing this beautiful layout. (If you film another it would really be good to cut out the background chatter, and maybe add a bit of narration to give us some information about the club and what we are seeing.)

    • @mikepilyih6524
      @mikepilyih6524 ปีที่แล้ว

      Finished pipe. We model a pipe piercing mill. Since the layout is loosely based on McKeesport and the surrounding Mon-Valley area, our fictional "Falk Works" mill is based loosely on US Steel National Tube Works and an amalgamation of a few US Steel blast furnaces in the area (such as Carrier Furnace for the old USS Homestead Works).

    @tazsnuts99 ปีที่แล้ว

    What did use for the snow

    • @mikepilyih6524
      @mikepilyih6524 ปีที่แล้ว

      Started by painting the surface all white. I did the snow based on Lou Sassi's ground goop only I used white paint instead of brown. Its Cellucaly, vermiculite, white latex paint, white glue, a touch of cerulean blue acrylic paint, a small amount of Woodland Scenics snow, and water. Mix it together into a goopey paste, spread it around and shape it. Then while its still wet sprinkle Woodland Scenics snow all over it. For the structures I speckled Woodland Scenics flex paste on the roofs, window sills, and any other upward facing ledge where snow might lay. Then I sprinkled Woodland Scenics snow all over the structure, then shook the excess snow off. Do this over a container or tray where you can collect up the unused snow and put it back in the bottle. Did the whole layout with barely one bottle of snow. Check out this video on how to make Ground Goop: th-cam.com/video/R-uIIlUr76E/w-d-xo.html

    You released a video on October 8, 2020 "Digitrax DS64 Turnout Control". Because it's on 'TH-cam for Kids' there is no way to ask these questions in the comments area for that video. I enjoyed that video, loved the idea, but is there any way you can post as to what wire goes where? I'd like to create a similar way to do this, but I would need a diagram or revised video explaining how the wiring works? Alas, in that October 2020 video, there are so many wires I can't trace them by watching, please help?

    This is great, are you going to be making the code available either for sale or free? Also where in the chain do the Tortoise motors go? Thanks.

    • @mikepilyih6524
      @mikepilyih6524 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tortoises could be wired directly across the LED's. However Arudiono I/O pins only handle 40mA of current. A tortoise at stall is 17mA, 4mA when moving. So if you have a crossover where you have two motors and an LED wired up to an output you'd be awful close, if not exceeding that limit. I'd like to iron out the code just a bit more before I post it anywhere

    Mike, Re: DS64 Turnout Control video. Could you share a schematic of the wiring? I’m not sure how LEDs were wired. Thanks for any diagrams. I enjoyed the video.

    • @mikepilyih6524
      @mikepilyih6524 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll work on a diagram. The LED's are bi-directional red-green LED's that are wired, the a 1000ohm resistor, in parallel with the switch motor. The switches are connected from Com (I think) on the DS64 to its "S" inputs. Digitrax discontinued the DS64 and replaced it with the DS74 a few months back. It works the same but has pin headers instead of screw terminals for the inputs.
