"The #1 Mistake Killing Your Exit Speed (And How to Fix It)"
Exit Speed vs. Bat Speed: Which to Focus On?
Exit Speed and Bat Speed are closely related but not interchangeable. Here's how they differ and why both are important:
1. Bat Speed:
o Refers to how fast the bat is moving through the hitting zone.
o It’s the primary contributor to exit speed, but it alone isn’t enough. Factors like swing mechanics, timing, and point of contact also play a role.
2. Exit Speed:
o Refers to the speed at which the ball leaves the bat after contact.
o It’s the ultimate measure of the power and efficiency of your swing.
Key Differences:
• You can have high bat speed but poor exit speed if you don’t make good contact or hit the ball on the sweet spot.
• You can’t have high exit speed without bat speed, as bat speed provides the energy transfer to the ball.
________________________________________
Which to Prioritize?
Focus on Exit Speed, because:
1. It is the end goal-what matters most is how fast the ball leaves the bat.
2. Training for exit speed inherently develops bat speed, as exercises targeting exit speed improve overall swing mechanics, power, and contact quality.
However, you need both to maximize performance. Poor mechanics or a weak swing will limit both bat speed and exit speed. Therefore, train comprehensively:
• Improve bat speed with resistance band swings, weighted bat drills, and explosive gym exercises.
• Improve exit speed with tee work focusing on consistent sweet spot contact and tracking results with a radar or similar tool.
In essence, they’re interconnected, and you should train for power, precision, and mechanics to boost both metrics effectively.
Key Factors for Maintaining High Exit Speeds in the 70+ Age Group:
1. Strength Training: Focus on maintaining core, leg, and rotational strength with age-appropriate resistance training.
2. Swing Efficiency: Prioritize proper mechanics to maximize power transfer without expending unnecessary energy.
3. Bat Selection: Senior bats with larger sweet spots and high rebound technology are crucial for maximizing performance.
4. Recovery and Health: Emphasize flexibility, joint health, and recovery strategies to prevent injuries and sustain peak performance.
Measurement and Context
• Elite players over 70 have been known to hit exit speeds above 85 mph, especially when they’ve maintained their athleticism and swing mechanics.
• Consistent speed around 75 mph is excellent for most competitive players in this age group.

The overlap is the over swing grip. More importantly, I would recommend better softballs at EVERY tournament or scrimmage at bat than worry about a grip or “rare” bat, end load, or balanced model.

I vote. Frank is right. Ed is wrong. LOL. Overlap grip must overlap, not the fingers at the bottom off the bat. Please vote so Ed knows.

I laid out what are the facts ..the point even Frank still doesn't realize. all explain in the video even frank needs to vote against frank .. as they say you can have your own opinion but not your own facts, Ed Rose .. vote as you like but understand the issue and its not terminology its physics and results of the technique. Look for a release of a new audio book series being released. "The Rhythm of the Swing: Unlocking the 3 T's of Hitting"

This was a fun bat to hit! Not only did it perform with the top bats out but the durability was amazing. We put 700 to 800 swings on this bat in 60 degree weather. At the end I checked for cracks, striations and any other signs of wear. Amazingly, there were only ball marks and dirt found. If you are looking for a bat that performs and has good durability, you absolutely need to check this one out.

Ed, I have listen to you for many years and liked a lot of things that you have said over the years. I have to say it because a lot of people are scare to it out loud instead of saying it behind his back. Dave Velasquez is an idiot. he has no idea what the hell he is talking about. And according him and calling people minions and people follow his dumb weighing of bats handles and barrels, doesn't even make any sense. The scale numbers will actually be different from a slight movement of the barrel on the scale left or right. I would love to school this idiot in physics. love to hear people talk like they are experts in manufacturing when they have no experience

I don't agree with swinging at 3-1, it depends if the pitcher is walking the whole team, no one swings ;-) 3 players walked on 9 pitches then a knuckle head comes up and swings at the first pitch and pops up to infield. The whole team will be like dude WTH!
