A video project that I started long ago. Inspired by Joseph Fulton's video I finished the one I started. Respectfully, I offer this small contribution. This story has stuck with me since I was a boy. I wanted my video to focus on the people involved and the fight against natures fury. Please like it and view my other videos. Thank You!

Inspired by a lost TV commercial from the 80's, I was able to use some footage that I stumbled upon to create a story with the music of Santo and Johnny's memorable song. Please enjoy it, Like it and see my other videos. Thank You!
Love this song.
This song makes me cry every time I hear it!!
Don't Forget to Watch Alice's Restaurant Every Thanksgiving Day..! It's Traditional ❤
Growing up in Western Kentucky our house was 1 block from the IC train tracks. We lived on a branch/connector line from Evansville Indiana to Mayfield, Ky. As a kid we always took time out from playing and ran to the closest yard beside the tracks to wave at the R/R personnel on those freight and once in a while a passenger trains. While the City of New Orleans never came by our way the train horn was just like the engines that passed our way. The song reminds me of a time of great joy in our family. We did not have much but we had each other, God and country. Thanks for posting the song it warms my heart now fading from neurological disease. God bless you.
Old Hobo's never fade out ...
We still have music keep listening
This song makes me cry. Daddy was a fireman on a steam engine train when me married Mama. It was at the end of WWII. He said there was nowhere to eat out along the tracks. They would stop along the tracks and go into a country store and buy a can of beans and heat it on the boiler. Mama said that the first wife that would hear the train coming in would call the other wifes and let know She said she would cook him a full meal in the middle of the night. God bless them, theve gone to heaven now
I will have a friend of mind listen to this song. It fits him so well.
If you can afford a 1st Class ticket and you're not in a hurry a train is a wonderful way to travel the country!
Wow! I never knew Steve Goodman wrote this song!! ❤ He's even more talented than I thought! ❤❤❤
My Daddy was a fireman on a steam engine train. I miss you Daddy.
I listen to this song st least once a day. Joan Baez you nailed it on this one!!!!!!!!!!!
Always r.i.p...you brave me.n...may god bless your souls this many years later.
Verry nice song , It takes me back when I was a little kid growing up in Watsonville CA
I used to drive trains full of cattle through the Rockies during the mid 80's. Sometimes I'd take my wife and her daughters along. My sons from a previous marriage would travel with us as well. The skies over Montana; I will never forget them for all of their blueness. My wife has since left me for an insurance salesman. But she got what she deserved because he left her broke, took all of her money and absconded with the deed to her house. (That house should have been mine!)
What a wonderful video - it so well complements this beautiful song and its subject matter.
Listened to train whistles every night at my grandparents home less than a mile away for years growing up...comfort and peace and same feeling every time I hear this song. Thank you !!!
A beautiful description of rural America from the 70s. I totally love this song
I miss the USA before Trump

80 mph winds and 25 foot waves. No chance. The Captain and Crew was hung out to dry 😢
Whoever made this video must have taken some train trips as a kid. It's just that simple. They captured the experience.
Have lived in Michigan my whole life..69yrs..this song and the history behind it lives in my soul
Loooove this song Arlo 🎉
Legendary song and a great video tribute to the railroads.
My grandfather, William McGuire, was a cook on the Illinois Central Railroad. I remember meeting him on a trip to Birmingham with my mom and brothers. We got a chance to ride once again at his retirement from Memphis to Chicago! This song reminds me of that period - now, at 69, this makes so much sense... Thanks
Makes me sad every time I hear that song Such an impact! I am overwhelmed !!
I haven't heard this song in decades! Although I'm an Aussie, it still evokes a very different time in America's history. It also reminds me that I'm a lot older too!!😯
Steve Goodman....how are ye...what a song 🎵 gone to soon
I am a train addict.
The music of Arlo is Phenominal, like Dylan, they changed America with Great Lyrics & Presentation. Arlo Great! & sad & bad Bob Dylan, great Harmomica & Guitar player though ! Completely outranks today's, wrapped music, music with no meaning Elton John, Benny & the who ? Their Music had Rhythm, had, blues, touched the heart & life. Today's warped meaningless 🎶 muzac ? Is really nothing. Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, John Campbell, Nate King Cole, his lovely daughter, Lauren Dangle,, Phil Wickam, Michael W. Smith. All Great Names, that we'll listen to forever, until this ridiculous generation & me passes away. Me, age 64 Please see: 2nd Timothy 1:7 & 4:3-4 These are the days ! Lauren Dangle i.e. Great Christian Music Artist. Sincerely, Cathy & Randy Rance.
Am reading stories from "Great American Railroad Stories". A book from TRAINS Magazine.

This old marine is listening to! I trust America to survive this woke crap about pronouns . How old am I ? I’m old enough to have fought for American BEFORE it lost its way .
My grandfather was an locomotive engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad having retired in 1963 after 50 years of service for the IC railroad. He was one of the engineers that operated the City of New Orleans on part of its journey in southern Illinois in the 1950's.
Awesome story thank you.
What a song, genius words, great music
What other country carries a mindset that would produce such music and such poetry? Will we in the future?
Such an outstanding video---great song, great singer/musicians, great images. And a sarcastic shout-out to the folks who destroyed the railways that efficiently moved goods & people throughout the U.S. far more cleanly & safely than the fleets of diesel trucks do today. Greed & personal mega-wealth over everything & everyone---it's the American way. RIP to the shadows of railraods.
