Special shoutout to John Rabe. He was a foreign ambassador in Nanjing when the Japanese ran completely rampant in China just before WW2 kicked off in Europe. He packed Chinese civilians inside the embassy, in many cases hiding them in the central courtyard under a giant parade flag from Japanese airborn surveillance. Saved thousands. Huge plot twist though. That parade flag? It had a Swastika on it. Rabe was the *German* Ambassador, and both a full tilt member of the Nazi Party *and a no-shit humanitarian*. Yikes.
