The Apocalypse Begins | 4 Horsemen Racing
I own a 2020 SS, but this has always been my favorite body style. I guess its because I grew up in the 90's, and we idolized cars like these. It was a different time, thats for sure.
You have to rememebr that in the 80's NO CAR sounded this good, and hardly any cars had over 220 horsepower. And NO CAR handled this good. The mustangs were wobblie and did not sound good. The Torque is what makes this car great. But notice the power peters out on the upper end.. It has to do with the Max RPM which is not high, and the crankshaft and fuel delivery. But this was the First MODERN sports car that was Well Rounded, and nothing looked this good and stylish. Not even the corvette. The corvette was very cramped inside and did not sound as good. The mustangs where quick off the line but did not handle or sound good from the factory. Even the REGAL had several short comings.. like, Bad handling, off the line torque was not good, the turbos got heat soak, and they had no rumble and a regal body simply is not stylish. The IROCs and TransAms had it all! And no production car could compare. So anyway, Comparing this IROC to 2022 Mustangs and Camaros is Oranges and apples. you have to remember the Times and the Genre of all vehicles at the time. You have to mentally wipe everything else off the table. Then you can see how great this IROC really was. I never had 1 of my multiple friends that said they were buying a Corvette. And we all drive IROC's or a Mustang orJeep. And even my Jeep and Mustang friend later bought an IROC.
Had like 245 lbft. Torque tho That was nice.
A Mustang GT ate this car up
5.7 Iroc Z owner class of 1989 , bought used in 1996 a couple years out of high school. It was a fun car, a bit problematic as I constantly triggered the notorious "check engine light". That check engine light was a dealer hustle.
He’s gonna regret selling it, I had a blue one and regret it so much! I’m 56 years old now and still have dreams about still owning it , then I wake up and realize it’s gone! I never thought I would ever sell it 😢
They didn't throw in the Passport radar detector? I never been in an IROC without one ;) Edit: With over 1000 likes. Someone here for sure rode in a stolen one.
My first car was an 84 Camaro base model with the 305 V8. It wasn't super-fast but it was a really fun first car, especially in the snow!
They are great cars used to have a 87 IROC Z with a 5.7 tpi and I regret that I sold it 😢
Cringe af
Was given an IROC exactly like this one as a graduation gift in 1993. Mine was an '85, Electric Blue, 5.7L 350... but mine had T-Tops. I thought I was the king of the world sporting around in my IROC, racing my friends in their god-awful 1980's-era Novas, Cavaliers and Skylarks, lol. Still love the looks of that car, one of my all time faves, and to see it only capable of an 8-second 0-60 time is hilarious, but hey.... back then, it was still a rocket for the time! Today I drive a turbo-charged SUV (Genesis GV80) that is twice the size of that IROC, probably weighs 800lbs more and has all wheel drive... I could run circles around that IROC but wouldn't look half as cool! Love to take one of these IROCs and rebuild it mechanically to make it more modern- supercharger, better suspension and ride control, maybe add some modern safety features and tech, but leave the outside unchanged... dream car!
No offense, but these cars ran 0-60 in around 7 flat when new. 8.8 ??? Traction???
My brother had an 86 and put a 350 in it. Black with silver decals, man I loved that car I was upset when he sold it. But I got my at the time dream car 00 SS. Still have it and swapped an LS6 stroker in. The IROC is great love this color too
Maybe a check up of tune up, etc. in '85 they said 7 sec. To 60 and 15 sec qtr mile.
I know this vid is 3 years old but man what a beautiful car. They will never make another car in the USA that is even remotely close to this. Thanks for sharing!!
Just came to come look at my dream car again LOL 3 years later😂😂
Who cares about some hp number its about the fun factor. Driven a number of bigger hp cars they are frigging useless on the st and dont last long. Not hard to beat a car wiht much more power if you can hook and get it down the track. All the haters will never understand that. They only look at peak hp numbers and think they know whats better. Nobody shops for a car based on that. Kids playing video games might.
Back in the day, you had the Lingenfelter Accel Superram intake, which took the F-Bodies to the next level. Add exhaust, heads, and cam; you would have a quick car even by today's standards.
still got that book lingenfelter wrote back then about his TPI and carbd sbc combos. He sure knew how to make driveable reliable power.
@@gordocarbo 💯.
When the gays discovered the sad ass failure of GM Camaros.
❤ with its painful acceleration and 140 mph top speed its a slow fast car😂
I'm not trying to be judgmental but why am i thinking the owner is a gay James bond?
My dad had an 86 berlinetta with an edelbrock crate 350 ram air scoop and cherry bomb exhausts. Black with red interior. Ive been obsessed with the 3rd generation since. The grand national and the iroc z are my favorite 80s cars.
I test drove an 87 ROC, white with a 5 speed. It was awesome. Handled great and had a decent rush at the top end of the rev band. It was $18k in Canada, and way beyond my means.
I aways my dream car
The ones with the tpi in first gear would make you think they had much more horsepower. That torque would fool you!
First car to 30mph or 30 ft whichever comes first I used to say! They were fun light to light.
Awesome car, but its well over 1 full second slower 0-60 than it should be.
I drove iroc z to prom insted of limo. !!!!!! Cl-ass of 89. !!!! I gotss 96 trans am in driveway !!! Life is gorgeous....
Id have to up the HP to about 315 & thats all she needs imo. beautiful car.
yesterday .was tellin this dude,36, abouit a womans Iroc got stolen twice & in bad shape, guys on YT brought it back to even better condition, it looked beautful ....he said ............... Joe dirt wouldnt even want an Iroc, worst camaro ever made ....... I entirely dissagree. When they are in nice well cared for condition, they are awesome
Sick video but wish you could hear those engines roar!
We've got a video coming soon with some roar and supercharger whine I'm sure you will appreciate ;)
Beautiful car I have a restored 1986 metalic red Iroc
Very cool! I liked these as a child. I was more into imports though. Funny how my 200 HP 1992 Honda Prelude could beat this. Lol
They were pretty close, depends. Compare a honda from the same yr any newer is redundant.
I had a 1988 with a 305 tpi and a 5 speed manual trans and I changed my rear gears from 3:08 to 3:73 and before I could do more I sold it, it had T tops and power everything but it certainly wasn’t the fastest car for sure . My 2023 Honda Civic with a 1.5 turbo si would eat my old Iroc z28 alive ! Especially if I put a tune and add another 70 hp and that’s without any parts being added and with parts that would add even far more power to my little economy civic it would just be a crazy difference. I did get my 1988 Iroc up to 140 mph and that car felt crazy unstable and it was scary for sure ! I have had my little civic si up to 120 and it wasn’t even close to how fast it can go , I was doing 120 and didn’t realize it ? It was easy and stable and would have easily gone much much faster then the Iroc !
Nice...
85 Iroc was the best year because the TPI automatic cars had 3.42 rear gears ! They flew. These were 14 second cars. 215hp, yeah right
The millennial…ruins it 💯
I saved my 88 IROC-Z from the car crusher some 10 years ago. T-Tops, power windows, power mirrors, power seats, and they all work! 5.7L so it’s an Auto but I can deal with it for the options and that 5.7L block foundation. Sadly with parent life and work and other projects, I’ve had to shelve the car in storage for years. Hoping to finish up my son’s truck this summer and get my Galaxie running by fall and start dusting off the IROC this winter and get her ready to play. Can’t wait to start driving her daily.
Get a mllett and a hair cut hims/herms!!! don't disgrace the IROC.
🔥🔥🔥
They listed 0-60 in the mid 8s and 1/4s in the high 15s.
I went to school with a guy that drove one. He was from Iraq. His tag read "IRAQIZ"...lol
Show the not the TH-camr
Cool to see the young man so excited.
My first car was 1989 RS hardtop, red. 305 TBI automatic.. it came with a 3.73.... i was 15. ... I loved that car. But theres something very special about the Iroc's...
Thank GOD they saved Chevrolet. I will never forgive them for killing Pontiac, but at least GM is thriving.
We're in control for the most part :)
Deadly in the wet/snow but sooooo much fun when it's dry :) Love hearing it sing at 5-7k
What a shitty spot to test launch
I was 19 in 1985 , and bought a new White IROC in '85. Yes, it was awesome. Yes I had a good job to pay for it, plus that high ass insurance bill. The bad thing was the tires were $500 a piece, because that tire was only used on the IROC and the Corvette. Mine was stolen 6 times. I had to buy wheels and tires 5 times. The last time, it didn't come back.
Major epidemic with these getting stolen. Dealer few block from me had every single wheel stolen off these overnight, made the LA times and news. Messed up but sorta laughed, bound to happen.
"Promo sm" 😀
please reply also my dad has the same car but he dose drag racing with it and he made that car different push on the gas on his car very very little bit it takes off like a rocket his car is way way faster
