Then others do it out of pride. To show off their superficial skills. Also I used to practice wiccian magic and some rituals require decorating trees with talismans. I would buy a tree for the scent...but it's also letting off VOCs. Though small amounts. The Christmas ham also likely comes from the idea of these powerful hogs in other cultures spirituality, that would reincarnate. Lol And Jesus wasn't just a baby, its a part of the story that's important but no more important than the other years he was here. Catholics obsess over babies...also the wise men showed up around two to four years after his birth. It was likely during Sukkot he was born. Based on when his cousin John was born and the Jewish rituals at that time, that the sacrificial sheep with the shepherds wouldn't have been out in the cold winter fields at night. Etc.
