The older she gets, the more she resembles late Chelibidache! Thanks to the God, she does not play super slow. (Laugh)
Hands of steel, this woman!
Yjas!
notes and notes Debussy like Beethoven or Caikovskij or Schumann🤷🏻♂️superb technique and extraordinary ease :but so who is it for..?
Part 5:17 to 5:28 is amazing
Prokofiev smiles.
速っ
Why so fast ?
Because she can
It is hard enough to play this piece, let alone at this speed, but the most amazing aspect of her interpretation is the musicality. She never lets the tempo rule over her. Always so much control and clarity. She reacts so beautifully in the moment to every subtle nuance. Other interpretations are wonderful. I love Berman, Gilels, and the lot, but Argerich just brings out the magic. Hard to beat this.
At 2:12 I melt. Bravissima Martha.
I’ve like other versions ,a couple quite a bit .but this is the one !
4:33 is exactly why I like Argerich. She has very little time for lethargic BS.
One of the greatest pianists ever. Her Bach is superb but this Debussy is terrible.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
her speed is out of this world jajaja she IS energy, music itself, I love her
0:35 this ritardando.... omg.... so impressive
I’m partial to Boris Berman’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s piano sonatas, but I was pleasantly surprised by this interpretation of the 3rd. The speed and accuracy are certainly impressive.
Incredible piano-playing, but no idea about the music.
Many as good, bt none better, of course.
Studying this piece at the moment, this performance leaves me in awe...
Wannes Tacken just where do you think you're going Johnson?
I think it is too hurried. I prefer Walter Gieseking's performance.
Magnificent! Paradigmatic!
Piano Lessons London by WKMT just where do you think you're going Johnson?
Questo è l’apice del pianismo.
Like everything she plays - oh look at me daddy, look how fast I can play!
OMG she is just unreal!!! So so so fabulous :) :) :) makes my blood zing :)
insane speed 씨발;;
Such precise rubato! Exquisite!
Martha! No one comes close.
I just LOVE this lady.....
This piece is so eerie
I eco the following sentiment from below written two years ago. "Too hurried. Too percussive. Is this Debussy? She makes it sound like Prokofieff. No, no, no." Yes yes yes to your criticism. Spot on Thank you.
Hyramess Hiramess disagreed. Absolutely love this version. It sounds like the stunt it actually is
I'll actually defend Argerich on this one. By debunking the criticisms laid above. "Too Percussive"- I'm pretty sure the piece is supposed to depict some violent rainstorm, in which case a crystalline (and yes somewhat violent) articulation is not only acceptable, but necessary. Unless the piano tone becomes brutal and "bangy" (which it wasn't to my ears), I don't see much merit in this criticism. "Too hurried"- If you elect to play it very fast, then (1.)It must be accurate and (2.) still expressive. The above perf. maintained both criteria from what I hear. If you don't like the performance, that is, of course, fine. But don't simply dismiss it in a slovenly way without meeting the artist on their own terms. Performers don't like poorly though-out critiques, and have good reason to resent it.
I agree with your points. However, unless you plan on rebirthing Claude Debussy anytime soon, I don't know if your last point makes sense.
i play this prokofiev now too
Me too, good luck!
It is my impression or it is a semitone higher?
yeah i didn't catch it at first so it felt like she was randomly modulating at the key parts.
MusicByNardo heh, "key" parts.
+MasSyntesium Yes it's because of the recording
Simply fantasic
I love the tap tap tap kind of feeling her version of this song gives, which is very like raindrops. Favorite interpretation right there.
:) ;)
Wonderful fast performance of Miss Argerich !!!!! (almost impossible)
Happy, happy.
this is why me and martha are destined for one another
love her bangs
