Good to hear again. Note how she pronounces 5. Not fünf but fünef. This makes it unmistakable over a noisy transmission. This is like 9 is said as niner in English language networks. That nobody has decided this makes me think this is one time code (OTC). Thanks for another dose of mystery 👍🏽

Quick note, E05 isn’t Soviet or Eastern European, it was a CIA station broadcast from Warrenton Training Centre in Virginia, USA. There may have been a transmitter in Frankfurt, Germany too. It disappeared in 2003 too. It’s not active now.

A few days ago something brought into my mind an old radio my grandma used to have... I used to study the station names on the dial as a little kid, and the name HÖRBY intrigued me... and here I stumbe upon a YT video with a radio that has the station listed.

Not a great mystery - The Skylark was run by Romanian intelligence, used a well-known Romanian folk tune (Ciocârlia, meaning "Skylark") followed (occasionally) by 5-digit figure groups in Romanian, presumably for the benefit of agents abroad. It disappeared shortly after the fall of the Ceaușescu dictatorship in 1989.

I've always found number stations and other audio oddities very interesting so thank you for making a dedicated channel for them. I believe there is an active number station broadcasting near where I'm based in the north of Ireland so I'll have to see if I can get a recording for you. Unless, that is, you're already aware of it or I'm mistaken in which case you probably know more than I.

I remember listening to her in my early days of SWL. Back then I didn’t understand the purpose of the numbers, but came up with my own theory. I thought these were merely utility stations used for propagation purposes and the numbers were used to make sure the frequency is occupied for whoever needed it and to warn others not to broadcast on these frequencies. That was my theory.

Cynthia was traced to the CIA at Warrenton and other places by a listener in the mid 1980’s. He parked outside and monitored transmissions. Also, there’s no remaining listeners today because it disappeared in late 2003.

E06 is the English Man (Russian) The bored man is V20 (Cuban)

E05 has actually been off the air for many years, although I remember tuning in many times back when I was an active numbers listener in the early 2000s. The general consensus seems to be that it was operated by the CIA from a facility near Warrenton, Virginia and I believe also another location overseas. Transmissions certainly always came in loud and clear at my home in Ohio. E05 was also nicknamed "The Counting Station" because of its characteristic "1234567890" opening. As an aside I once wrote a song about the station called "Cynthia Is Counting" and when my old band recorded it I incorporated samples that I made when I recorded an actual transmission off the air. She really made an impression on me!

I want a number station that just reads off the first million digits of pi, then the first million of e, then maybe square root of three, phi… See how long it takes people to catch on.

It's known to be Egyptian. It's known which operating system is used to create the numbers (Windows 7). We know what it's most likely used for since numbers stations tend to have a single purpose. The purpose isn't for spies to communicate to their handlers. It's the opposite. It's their handlers communicating with spies since the broadcast location is safely in the parent country but the spies aren't but all they need is to tune in with either a shortwave radio or even a websdr or something. The code can't be cracked since it's using one time pads and only with the appropriate one time pads could the transmission be decoded. If you want to get more technical details on numbers stations, look into Ana Montes and the Atención numbers station as when she was caught (she was a Cuban spy in the DIA), one time pads were discovered as well as decoding software on her laptop.

Is it something that is fake, it's just to create puzzlement to others ? The spoken words are in the English language, is that for a reason ?
