I hadn't discovered the listener-related positioning in Spacelab yet. Thanks for the explanations 👍 Another great show 👍 (Unfortunately I always have to watch the show 24 hours later because my English is terrible and I use the translation function on TH-cam 😉)
Hi. Does Gravitas compress both the ADM file and the Binaural outputs?
The ADM file is compressed by compressing everything before the renderer. That automatically translates to any render format including binaural. There is no separate processing for binaural necessary (and possible).
Ok So I still need to master the binaural track to reach streaming service loudness levels.
@@englishbobshousemusic No, you only have to master the ADM for delivery when it comes to loudness.
Super info show Thanks...... I am looking after some DAW that can edit Video and make a Dolby Atmos movie, and Playback into 9.1.6 Speaker I am using RME Fireface UFX III + active speakers + (and some 16-32 D/A in the future I am building up for now and learning in the process )......... I am creating an orchestra template in my DAW. I understand that I can move the sound ball around. My question is regarding the space for distance. Should I keep the ball directly on the speaker, and then set the appropriate reverb depth for each instrument? How does moving the ball to and from the speaker and the listener affect the reverb? Say I have the ball in between the speaker and the listener, would that simulate a pre-reverb affect? Or is it simply moving the speaker closer? I'm trying to get the spacial dimensions worked out for a complete orchestra template and trying to simulate as best I can distance as one would find in a typical theater. It's difficult to explain, but I want my first violins to my left and spaced front to back. Then I want my second violins closer to center, and also front to back. I can work out the reverb I need, I was just wonder how moving the ball back and forth will affect the distance.
If we are talking about objects in Dolby Atmos Beam then you should keep the objects at maximum distance in most cases. The distance in Atmos usually is only lowered for fly-by motion or other effects as it basically spreads the signal of the object across more speakers. If you want to achieve a true feeling of depth the most impressive and effective way is by using reverb, as you have said yourself. An easy way to do so is Spacelab. It is a 3D reverb which connects directly to the Composer and you can do the panning/placing of objects inside Spacelab. If you configure it correctly it does all the balancing of dry and wet depending on the objects distance to the listener automatically and it has another great feature as well not found in any other reverb. Each object has individual early reflections depending on it's position in space, just like in physical reality.
really eye opening. I bought the DA Composer and Gravitas today and maybe it will change my logic Atmos Mixing workflow Thank you for these innovative products
Hi Tom. Would you be so kind as to post your logic template please utilising all the bus routing you've used in the live stream?

@ thank you 🙏
Thank you for this time. I noticed this sound in my mix but did not know where it came from. By the way which position is Apple using when ignoring it?
Apple is not using any of these settings. They create a 7.1.4 downmix of your Atmos mix and then binauralize that. So their basis is a speaker layout which cannot contain binaural information. That is the reason why the binaural settings get ignored by Apple.
@ can I mix down the binaural headphone mix inside composer into a stereo file that I can play on any device?
It definitely helped using objects, thanks for that. Also seemed to help my mp4 playback on my 5.1.4 system. As far as Spacelab goes i still cannot get my head around it. Need to do more studying i guess. Balls to the wall! does that include the binaural modes? Keep everything at far?
Balls to the walls refers to the distance to the listener in Atmos only. Spacelab itself has no problem with this as all objects are always kept at maximum distance when sending them to the Composer as dynamic objects. With one exception. If you move an object in Spacelab really close to the listener that the distance between both is under a certain radius, the distance in Atmos is lowered as well to make smooth transitions between positions possible. Please refer to our tutorials for all the details.
@@fiedler-audio I meant the binaural modes - off, near, mid and far. Do these affect the definition of an object?
@@englishbobshousemusic The binaural modes only affect how objects are rendered on headphones, it is basically more or less reverb on it. Some fixed reverb size Dolby defines. You can try it out with a pair of headphones to season to taste. There is no general good or bad rule here.
Amazing information.
Your audio is too low even in full volume. Please try to increase volume from next episode..
Well, we went for enough headroom, yes, but it works fine even on the phone. So maybe check your system as well?
Another great show 👍 I'll try out some of the tips in Reaper. It should work just as well as in Logic. I'm already looking forward to the next show.
I did miss the Livestream. Please next time use Davinci Resolve. also…. A little focus on guitars specific if you come from a double tracking technique as stereo mix. I am not so much interested in vocals
Yes, im eagerly waiting for davinci resolve
@@DavinciGirl The DAC also works with DaVinci Resolve. All of the procedures shown in the video can basically be used with DaVinci. I personally prefer a different approach: After creating the stems\audio tracks, I "mix" the tracks "spatially" in Spacelab (99% of the time this saves me having to use sidechaining). I then pass the finished sound to DAC and use it to create either the ADM/BWF, stereo or binaural file. If I only need a binaural mix, I can also create it straight from Spacelab, then with 32 speakers.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
24:00 perfect tips here, Thomas.
Will be good Special because of the Masterclass if you bring some ideas for Guitars. I did konvert now more than 350 Songs to Dolby Atmos and for each I produce a education video. Maybe you will in future change the streaming time and day. Tuesdays there is the Cubase club education stream same time and this way I get no info from TH-cam when you are on air. Please post the Amsterdam videos to TH-cam.
Hi, I'm struggling to export an ADM file, could you help me?
Please write to us through our homepage with a description what you are trying to do.
I've learned a lot again - thank you 👍 Now a technical question regarding Spacecab+DAC - what does the DAC do with the speakers below the "listening line" if, for example, I have decided on "Full Sphere" with 32 speakers when mixing in the Spacelab?
Thanks very much guys for trying to bring such important info to the game. Very much appreciated 🙌🏽 I would love to figure out/learn how some of these top mixers are translating their binaural mixes into great playback from a stereo speaker set up. Thanks again for taking the time!
I can not use it on Reaper, the "tutorial" of Dolby Atmos Composer cover all the screen and i can't do anything else. I click everywhere and it never do nothing. Please fix the UI issue for the laptop users like me, i don't have a bigger external monitor.
Unfortunately the minimum resolution is 1440x900. Lower resolutions are not supported. You could temporarily decrease the zoom factor to get the whole plugin window on screen.
Would you recommend this: beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 ohm Over-Ear Studio Headphones For Mixing, Mastering, and Editing in Dolby Atmos.
Generally it is recommended to use the headphones which you know best as primary monitoring option. And then it is also good to check your mix on a variety of options.
Hi, could you pl make a video with DAC in davinci resolve
On the list.
Fiedler in seinem Dolby Atmos Mixing Tip No.2 beschrieben hat. Die Ergebnisse können sich schon hören lassen 😉. Ich freue mich auf die weiteren Sendungen. 👍

Thank you for your excellent work. But I have a question as a newbie :) Can we use the music we created in Dolby Atmos in Studio One in a home theater system (5.1)?
If your home theatre is capable of playing back Dolby Atmos files/streams, then yes. You need to convert your ADM/BWF file to MP4 beforehand though, if you want to play it back directly.
If you are stuck with a Mastering Console window size bug you may find it is helpful to delete this file and restart. C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\Fiedler Audio\Mastering Console\audioDevice.settings

Love Fiedler Audio, you guys are legit🪬
I don’t have an atmos studio and I don’t really like wearing headphones so I mix in atmos on a pair of stereo speakers and it seems to come out really well.
If it works, who is to argue. ;-)
@@fiedler-audio yes I definitely hear a difference even through stereo speakers :-)
Very interesting talk. Tank you for doing this. I liked to hear about the details even the technical ones and will looking forward to the next talks. Because I'm working on linux I am more on the observer bench, but i keep fingers crossed, that maybe some day ..... :)
To this day, I have not regretted getting involved with Spacelab and the Dolby Atmos Composer as a pure hobbyist 👍👍👍
Hi Thomas, thanks for this live once again. So I generated my PHRTF from dolby. I tried integrating it into the DAC but the drop down menu doesn't lead me to any directory in my mac to select the PHRTF file. It's as though this feature is disabled for now or is there a way around this? What do I do?
Paths to Fiedler's PHRTF folder are in the manual.
I thought this was a great video. My first impression of this tool is that is was great. I had a little trouble for my DAW (Reaper) recognizing it, but after a quick restart, all was good. I noticed that if I have atmos on my master channel, then, I cannot have a track bypass it. Some tracks in my mix I don't want atmos to process and simply want to bypass it, but I didn't see a bypass feature. The only way around this was to place atmos on its own track (atmos bus) and rout all my atmos tracks to that, and then rout to the master, then, have another non-atmos track with all my other plug-ins (usually synths) that I don't want to be atmosed routed to that and then rout that to the master. Thats a lot of extra work. Maybe I missed something. I also noticed that the program is very graphic intensive and bogs down if I have too many instances opened at the same time. In addition, there are limitations when mixing between a proper atmos room and on the headphones. Through headphones, the sounds get diluted if spread too wide. I found that keeping precussive instrumets tight on the speaker gives a nice punch, and ambient instruments wide on the speaker gives a really nice etheral sound. Its very difficult to mix some synths as they are already sampled very spacious and atmos dilutes them even further (like double the reverb) in that they lose thier sonic qualities. These synths would be better bypassed, hense the first question. But after a lot of trial and error, I can get really nice sounding mixes now. The program is extremely intuitive. Although, I also don't like adding an additional track for each instrument so that I can use the faders on my DAW. It would be really, really great if you guys build faders into the composer so we don't have to do the afor mentioned, or open up Beam to adjust the sound levels.
You can use a script to make subbusses, which you can bypass and change volume ex.ex.
Hey Jimmy, thats a lot for one paragraph. Let me try to dig through. 1. Why would you want to mix Atmos and non Atmos. That doesn't make any sense as you have either an Atmos mix or a stereo mix (or multichannel if applicable). If you are talking about how your channels are represented on headphones, have a look at the binaural settings. There is a setting called off which bypasses binauralisation and results in mere stereo panning on headphones. Maybe this is what you are looking for. 2. Regarding graphical intensity, what GFX card do you have? Our plugins run on OpenGL 3.3+ which is quite an old standard and is supported by 99.9% of all computers in use today. 3. As it was said in the video, headphones should be the main monitoring setup and speakers only for control, as speakers are the absolute minority when it comes to the consumer side. So you best get it right on headphones first. It might seem overwhelming in the beginning but I am sure you will get through. 4. A mixing facility in the Composer is on the list.
@@fiedler-audio Thanks for the reply. 1. I will try the "off" and see what happens. Thanks. 2. I'm using a GTX 1080 graphics card, so it's pretty old. Next year I will upgrade to an RTX 4080. So that will fix the problem. No worries as my 3D gaming graphics editor also bogs down if I have too many objects being rendered. I am also working on getting a good set of mixing headphones. So hopefully that will solve some of the referencing problems. Yeah, the mixing facility would surely optimize my workflow. I'm all about keeping things simple.
thank you Fiedler

I see in the comments that you have an EQ module coming soon. Will that come at an extra cost, like Gavitas MDS. Or is the module version of Gravitas included freely with Mastering Console?
We cannot disclose any details yet but it will most probably not be free of charge.
This, in my opinion, is the best "space" creation tool for mixing Atmos. The flexibility is mind-blowing.
in the atmos essential version i dont see the LFE channel enabler, is it only on the full version only?
Yes, it is full version only.
when i mix for films, i usually send Dialogue tracks to a DIA bus, Foleys tracks to Foleys bus, Ambiences etc... to their own BUS, so i can also export surround stems, or i can just solo the DIA BUS and hear only the dialogues etc... how do i set up DAC to work with BUSSES? thanks
Hi Rob, in your setup, you can place a Beam on each of your buses and switch those Beams to dynamic objects. That way each of your bus is represented as a bunch of dynamic objects in the Atmos mix which can be muted/unmuted, exported separately etc.
@@fiedler-audio Thanks for your reply, but inside the bus some dialogue might move from left to right, back front, while other stay in the centre (during a scene) so how can that be accomplished using a bus and DAC? would not the whole bus be processed by the BEAM, so that all that is going through that bus has the same spacial coordinates?
@@Rob-ym If you pan onto the bus and leave the settings of the Beam untouched, meaning just being the layout the bus is on, for example 9.1.6, you are all set. The dynamic objects will stay in the place they are supposed to for a 9.1.6 layout and your panning onto the 9.1.6 bus will do the job.
This is beautiful ❤
Hilfe!

Im sorry, it doesn't work for me for some reason. I am using Reaper. I inserted the Atmos plug-in on the master channel, and my tracks got a Beam plug-in. My mix is set at 48,000. When I deselct the atmos plug-in on the master channel, I get audio from my mix. The minute I turn on atmos, I get no sound, but I have audio going into the plug-in for each track I put a Beam on. I can see the audio on the connections monitoring on Atmos. Nothing is getting to my master channel. I have all my settings the same as in the tutorial. What am I missing? Also, I have the Atmosh channels connected, but the input channel blue dots, are not lighting up like in the video. So the audio is getting to the Atmos via the Beam plug-ins, but it's not getting out of the system. I have tried to toggle, select etc. Everything, but nothing is working. You say its easy, just connect the beam plug-in, and your demo shows it working, as well as others' demos, but shit aint working for me.
Hi Jimmy, do the Beam connections appear on the left side of the Composer window? Also make sure you have only one instance of the Composer in use, system wide.
@@fiedler-audio Thanks, my DAW simply needed to restart and reload my production. All good now. So I think the program needs a solid DAW reboot after installation.
