Pink Floyd Guitar Lesson Wish You Were Here
Yes economy picking can distract from alternate picking. Thats why i dont do it. Only last year did i learn how to hold a pick correctly and do outside alternate picking. Had teachers since 1987 not one said hold the pick like tgis and pick this way. The main thing to me is can i remember the notes? Say i improvise to Agriona by MacAlpine do my techniques help my memory of notes? If not i discard the technique. I pick very hard you can hear it on my videos. I can play left handed also but thats like doing things differently mentally. Thx for your videos.
Yes of course brother glad you got some interest and cool tidbit to share
What is your pedalboard set up?
I have the new specter phantom ghost model from figment.
I alternate pick arpeggios. Why? Using directional, or, sweep picking to me is like a car with no brakes. Both are tools certainly though ive found i can hear the difference between those techniques and strict alternate picking. Also, alternate helps the fretting hands muscle memory. Lastly, using diff width picks affects hand synch, a 0.88mm on some days, 1.0 others, and 1.6mm on still others depending on the tone and feel i want.
Master sweep pecker
Dinky bodies are like 3/4 the size of a standard strat sized body so yea a Charvel, Jackson, warmouth they’re gonna be smaller
Well, Paul Gilbert did say that shred guitar was something of an athletic competition. Muscular guitar. 😁
haha paul knows best thats for sure brother
Its ya boy = click off never to see again.
just right after I finish writing my comment to boost a little engagement. Thank you, brother we've gotta stay focused.
This is absolutely amazing dude pretty damn spot on to Brandons flare as well 💪
Grady diss 😂. Dude initially helped me play some Yngwie but it totally got me stuck playing anything else because I was so focused on slant.
Lol man I’ll probably collaborate with him at some point and I respect his vision, success. I get annoyed when my new clients want to talk about pick slanting lol
I made the huge mistake of not getting the sextuplets with a click solid first. Dude is totally right about drilling that first. It makes all the difference in the world. Sweeping out of time totally sound like garbage and playing them faster to attempt to cover up slop is not going to help. Good advice.
I'm gonna be honest: I'm not that interested in learning sweep picking. I'm just here to reward an excellent thumbnail with a little engagement.
Hahaha let’s goooo
What's your string height setup looking like?
You ever been on the space needle?
@@lukeman8605 No, just seen it from afar.
@@eastcoaster757 then how could you be sure it wasn’t my string action?
@@lukeman8605 Yeah Luke, what’s your string action looking like? Can you fit a pick between the fret and the string? Two picks? Same for all strings?
@@eastcoaster757 Well Brian why do you ask? would it not depend on the gauge of these picks?? what say you? which fret? which strings? these are all great questions.
Absolutely incredible my man! Great stuff!
Totally awesome advice and I don’t want to sound like Kirk either
lol right on man
Great video. I’ve got to suck it up and relearn alternate picking. You are so right about getting economy picking down then losing the alternate picking chops. Glad I’m not alone. I’m definitely going to check out more of your videos.
I love this guy - amazing chops, and a totally chill vibe and teaching approach. He makes great points here too, like the false idea that you must strictly alternate pick everything you do. When I was younger and I was into Eddie Van Halen and George Lynch, I was much more legato. I started getting into Yngwie and Paul Gilbert, and when it came out in, I guess 1988? I got Paul's Intense Rock video and started learning from that. And much like Luke says, instead of paying strict attention to what he was doing, I actually just kind of approached it with my own method that worked very quickly and very well for me. I just basically did the licks that he was showing, but when I crossed strings I would do two down strokes in a row, and at the time did not realize that was economy picking, but it's just what came naturally to me. I alternate pick strictly on a single string, but when it comes to crossing strings I'm all economy and it works great for me. Combining all techniques, sweeping, tapping legato, alternate picking, economy picking - you can really put together a great, well-rounded bag of tricks and style as a player. Great stuff Luke! 🤘🎸🔥
wow brother super positive message my man. really appreciate the kindess. cool history too, brotha. keep ripping!
My goodness!!
Bro add a little reverb
done. try it now
more pentatonic videos pls XD
Brandon buckingham??
Always hitting the 2.5 step Gilmour bend. Thanks for the lesson big dawgg
It’s whole step, neutral, two whole steps, neutral, whole step.
In another brick he bends the C all the way up to F I’m pretty sure. Flat 7 all the way up to flat 3 in d minor pentatonic…

I went to a party played Santaria and woke up naked next to a woman. Went to another party, did immaculate alternate picking technique and woke up naked with a very sore ass next to a man
😂😂😂 how the turn tables
Hey man just found your vid. I dig your playing and style. Ive been playing for over a decade and just more recently started to speed things up past basic small easy solos. But i found i dont really have a structured practice routine. I just practice slightly harder songs like freebird. So far im half way through the solo. I know i have to learn more theory and scales. I could use help structuring a practice routine so i can get past playing other bands stuff and solo my own riffs i already have.
100% brother please reach out to me on Instagram @lukemanshredding I’d be happy to assist
Hey brother if you want to shoot me a message on my Instagram @lukemanshredding I’d be happy to assist you.

radical brother
Bahahahah!!! Can you play Sublime’s Santeria. 😂 #truth
Great as always. Question, why did you take down your lesson on Brandons solo in Sunglasses at night? Wanted to re-learn it via your video but i saw you took it down
Brandon has a patreon. I don’t want to provide free information with his material when he’s created an opportunity for those interested to pay him what he deserves for his information.
This is exactly what I went through. When I first started playing, I was naturally an economy picker. I got pretty good with it, thinking I was alternate picking the whole time. Eventually I figured out that I was not alternate picking, and that bothered me lol. So I began my quest of breaking my natural technique down in order to rebuild alternate picking. I spent a very long time only alternate picking, and although I got good at it, it was a mistake. I had completely neglected my natural economic picking style to the point that it now feels completely foreign. So now I’m completely relearning economy picking, and it’s been a real struggle.
Sick 🔥🤘🔥
greatest workout man because of this im improving
hell yeah dude this rocks
This is so goddamn good
Many people just want to learn alternate picking because they think it's superior technic, but they don't really know what they need it for. So they struggle to learn it and hardly having any prorgess in terms of playing what they want. So what I think is you must choose your technic based on what you want to play, and not because "it's just cooler", and that way you can save a lot of time and progress faster.
Cool ideas brother
Hey, I like some of your ideas, but the link for you're alternate picking mastery course doesn't seem to work. Never got an email. checked my spam as well, nothing.
Thank you for the heads up brotha. I’ll send you out something manually today

Is the guitar heavy solid weight
I would say it's a medium weight. Not light, not heavy. Great weight to be honest.
See, now I have to subscribe to your channel.
I hear some Yngwie Malmsteen in there.
Great playing! Keep it up! What amp did you use brother?
