SHENANIGANS in the Custom Toy Community!
มุมมอง 2.2K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Guys and Gals, you know I ain't about the drama in the collecting community - we're all grown-ups playing with toys here, so we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously, right? But I was alerted to something this morning that kinda got under my skin, so I gotta say something about it. I am fully prepared for the legion of trolls who will inevitably descend upon me and my comments section, but I'm...
Slicing Articulated Action Figures for 3D Resin Printing
มุมมอง 8892 หลายเดือนก่อน
So I get asked pretty regularly for advice on how to print the action figure parts and pieces that I sell, specifically how I support them and slice them. I've always resisted the urge to do a tutorial video and instead pointed people to the many videos that already exist out there. The problem though seems to be that though there are plenty of resin printing tutorials out there, not many of th...

As I've said before, I'm a real bum when it comes to painting my own figures - I have a backlog of my own designs (and some from Trash Compactor and Vivid Motion too!) that I just haven't made the time to paint. So when a painter like Steven at Keepers Kustoms steps up to the plate to help me out...I'm more than happy to let him! Check out the figures he painted for me and if you'd like him to ...

I always get asked "Hey Funky, do you sell fully-painted figures?" And the vast majority of the time, I say "no" mainly because I just simply don't have the time! Do You Know If Your 3D Printed Figures are Safe?

Another thing i want to say - i made a 3.75 scale gi joe MASS DEVICE using 3d modeling, styrene plastic, scratch building, and a bunch of scrap 3d printed leftover greeblies and terrain components. I posted many pics of my work on my former fan page and this business "steve's toys" aka S3D - messaged me and asked me for the files. I refused because i never sell or provide any of my work in any way. He told me to piss off and he will make his own then. Well months later someone told me that he is selling an exact copy of my model! I went to his site and that fat f** used all the orthographic images of my playset to make a pixel perfect 3d model of my work! And selling prints of it! And ive seen that asshole in groups bullying and threatening to sue everyone claiming that they shared his files that he sold! But yet he has no problem using a private fan's design work to make a pixel perfect copy and sell as a product!

Dude i was in his group and i bought quite a few figures from him! I sang his praises and believed his work was truly wonderful! But guess what? I was kicked out of his group because he believed i was a "spy" for his enemies! Ha! I thought it was a joke, but i learned he blocked a few thousand people from his group for the same reason! Really comical!

Wow this is crazy! I am 49 years old and I never heard of you or this other guy until today, I did not even know custom figures existed until a few days ago. I'm not a collector. I'm just a huge Star Wars fan. I used to have a few of the Kenners when I was about 6 or 7, but I never held on to them more than a year or two, i played rough with my toys at that age, when I had battles sometimes the figures got decapitated. like Vader. All I have right now is the life size Yoda from Sideshow and a Lightsaber I built at Disneyland. But I am wanting to get a whole set of customs, maybe, maybe one day I might also get some of the vintage MOC graded stuff too if I can ever afford it, but for now I just wanna get custom stuff to have displays of in my game room & theater room. But, I am really impressed with you & also the guy you don't mention by name, I just found both of you this week, and amazed by the high quality of both your items I see online. But what shocks me is that a Star Wars fan could be as mean as what you described, I always thought Star Wars was supposed to be light hearted and a way to access our childhood and a simpler and happier time, I would have thought people that make this stuff would have been happier more pleasant people to deal with, so it's disappointing that you have had this experience with this person as well as a few others in the comments. Makes ya wonder what is going on in his life maybe to make him behave that way.... as talented & successful as he is, and to be a part of Star Wars history and Star Wars community you would think that he'd be so filled with happiness and that he would show more respect to you and other Star Wars fans, especially when it's people like you all that afford him the opportunity to make an income doing this. People should be nice, because I know some people that won't buy from mean people , people that will gladly pay double for something made by him on the Bay being sold by someone else just to avoid putting money in his pocket. Hopefully he rights his wrongs with you and others and becomes a better person because Star Wars is supposed to be a happy place for everyone.

A few weeks after my order from this individual showed shipping, I simply asked a few questions about status which were answered, however once my order finally arrived, I too was blocked. So strange! I had a situation a couple years ago where I pre-ordered an item from him and it took literally a year. Friends of mine who ordered the same item after me had long-since received theirs, and I was literally afraid to ask him about it because I didn't want him to yell at me and cancel my order. Fortunately, I was able to reach out to one of his helpers/partners and he got me squared away with no issues. It was so easy for that dude to be nice to me and solve my problem - it's a shame though that people have to live in fear of even asking questions!

Thanks man. Yeah, his self-righteousness doesn't really align with the way he conducts himself. Which is honestly a shame because like I said, I dig his figures. I'm using a design that's different form yours, but I'd like to use an image of your figure when I start taking pre-orders for mine. If I give you a shout out and link to your site, is that cool with you? I'd be happy to send you one of the figures when they're done." If he'd done anything like that, I would have happily agreed.

It was the same story with my Tonnika Sisters card artwork and I called him out on it. In an attempt to clear the air between us, I agreed to let him use them. (Not that I own the photo, but I did do all the clean-up work on the artwork and set it all up nicely on my own card templates). I just dig hearing what you're going to be working on! I do like the Hollywood Monsters I grabbed off your cults... and I haven't printed the TaunTaun yet... gotta get that done... Too busy with work and my own figures.

I was told, some time ago, to always make sure my angle degree was always 47... no idea if it actually makes any difference at all. My figs are constantly plagued with support pocks... hate it.

Never heard the 47 degree rule before - that sounds made up! :) The key I've found to reducing the support pocks is to adjust the side and penetration depth of the support tips to get the right balance between strength and minimal size. Try messing with the support tips!

Great video thank you. A lot of these same principles of part arrangement works for filament printing your designs as well. Only things I do different is the neck peg flat on its side and feet flat on the plate.

I’ve been out of it for a little while, but this was a great video to jumpstart the passion. Thank you Sir for such a great tutorial! It’s fascinating to watch the process, and I look forward to purchasing more of your creations!

How is this not Illegal Bootlegging though?

    • @funkymaclunkey
      @funkymaclunkey 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well I'm glad you asked! Honestly, those of us who make figures based on intellectual property owned by giant corporations do indeed operate in a 'grey' area. Generally, with the exception of some notoriously litigious IP owners, corporations that preside of popular franchises want to walk the line carefully between encouraging bootlegging and pissing off their biggest fans. Thus, there are a few rules that I follow to keep everything above board: 1. I don't use any logos, Star Wars or otherwise, on anything I make 2. I don't offer scans OR printed figures of anything commercially available. For instance, you won't catch me selling 3d files for any of the Hasbro Retro figures! 3. If Hasbro or another toy company releases a vintage style figure of a character, I won't offer it. That's one reason why I'm not making the main cast of the Acolyte. 4. If an IP owner asks me to stop selling something, I will do it immediately with no questions asked. We are operating under their watchful eye and they are within their rights to stop us at any time. Most importantly, high-level employees of Hasbro, Mattel, and other toy companies follow me and other creators on Instagram and engage with the custom figure community regularly. If they wanted to stop us they could, but instead they choose to encourage the fandom as long as everyone plays nice in their sandbox. Hope that helps!

I know your weren't going to teach people to suck eggs but I'd love to see how you lay out a printbed and your supports so as to support and not loose any figure definition. Help us all stop the frustration of it all going wrong 😂
