Etrian Odyssey 4: The Heavenbringer (5 Imperials)
If you think 5 Imperials can outdps race the Heavenbringer easily, think again. This took quite a few attempts to pull off.
The limitations of the Imperial becomes a lot more painfully clear when an enemy actually manages to survive their assaults. Normally your other party members would be able to cover for an Imperial's downtime while they're using Heat Sink or their edge skills. But when your other party members are also all Imperials... This resulted in me actually having to use Ignition, and unironically use Overdrive to deal with Heavenbringer's hands. (When in most other cases with a party with an Imperial in it, the enemy would most likely be long dead before Overdrive comes into play.)
Heavenbringer really asks you to bring your best crowd control tools. Which Imperials don't have a lot of. No disables to slow her or her limbs down. And very limited ways of dealing AOE damage. And the limbs are about as durable as an FOE from a bit earlier in the game, so they're not just targets you can take down THAT quickly. Heavenbringer hits really hard and her hands can slow your party down, letting the fight spiral out of control the longer you leave the limbs alive. After destroying both of the limbs, Heavenbringer moves to the front row, allowing melee classes to deal full damage. She'll forcefully regenerate her limbs if her HP reaches 50%, 40%, or 20%. There's also a hard hitting co-op attack she'll use if you leave the limbs alive for too long, so really take them out fast when she starts telegraphing it.
After you destroy the face, or rather massively dislocate her jaw (take a look at the Bared Essence's entry in the Monstrous Codex, and move the camera left or right...), you still need to kill the Bared Essence to finish the fight. You have 3 turns to deal damage to her before she regenerates Heavenbringer's face and hands. Fortunately the face only gets healed to 20% HP, so you don't have to redo the entire fight if that happens. You can delay her face closing by using a head bind, but this party doesn't have access to those. The Bared Essence takes 50% damage from everything, including Almighty damage, so go nuts with damage to finish the game.

If you're wondering what the problems with an actual 5 Imperial run is, TP and accuracy. Imperials blow through their TP so fast they pretty much need to invest in their TP recovery skills so they don't constantly run dry on explorations. Also missing is far more debilitating compared to any other class since it'll still overheat their drive blades, so you really don't want to see a drive miss....

มุมมอง 5529 หลายเดือนก่อน
Carnage. For the buildup this thing had, it's not really much more than a super FOE really and doesn't do a whole lot. Hraesvelgr for the most part, only targets the back row. Once it hits 50% HP it'll use Feather Rain on your entire party. It can't use that again until it uses all of its other skills at least once. It doesn't have a conditional drop. For whatever reason both drops are just ran...

มุมมอง 7699 หลายเดือนก่อน
This fight is pretty much a prime opportunity for Logre to show off the true power of the Imperial... if the thing didn't constantly dunk on him in this fight, good lord! The thing does change its weakness around, but aside from that it just hits really hard. For the first 15 turns, the Cradle Guardian is a fairly predictable boss. Some turns are random, but the turns where it uses a mixer and ...
Etrian Odyssey 4: Logre (5 Imperials)
มุมมอง 6949 หลายเดือนก่อน
Logre is honestly not too bad. For the most part you're actually fighting a Landsknecht rather than an Imperial really, though that's namely because of how an actual Imperial functions. Logre's main attack is Shock Drive, which will severely overkill anyone it hits. But it'll overheat his drive blade for 6 turns, preventing him from using it until it cools down again. But he can speed up the co...
Etrian Odyssey 4: Chameleon King (5 Imperials)
มุมมอง 3859 หลายเดือนก่อน
This boss is a souped up Chameleon with all the mechanics and such that applies. He can be a very annoying fight for a couple of reasons. First off is the camouflage mechanic. It puts the enemy in a state where they essentially have infinite evasion. So the only way you're landing a hit on that is if your attack ignores accuracy checks, like the burst skills, or if you disable their evasion thr...
Etrian Odyssey 4: Baboon King (5 Imperials)
มุมมอง 6069 หลายเดือนก่อน
This boss is kind of infamous, namely because the quest tied to him shows up a lot earlier than the point where the devs actually expect you to fight him. If you're wondering what that point is, the Baboon King is level 41, so a bit below there. Though some parties are capable of dealing with that quest the moment it shows up. As for the Baboon King himself, he doesn't do a lot, but he hits har...
Etrian Odyssey 4: Boiling Lizard (5 Imperials)
มุมมอง 6059 หลายเดือนก่อน
For the most part this fight is straightforward, aside from one part which I'll elaborate on later. Boiling Lizard actually has a scale puzzle you have to solve in order to weaken it, halving its HP and severely lowering the power of its skills. If you don't do this, you're up against a behemoth that will utterly overkill you and takes ages to put down. Most parties won't be able to take it on ...

Kibagami is... not really that bad, even with my offenses in the gutter. He doesn't do a whole lotta damage, and is more of a showcase of what the Bushi class can do. Though you don't unlock those until after beating the labyrinth boss. If you're using food or accessories to increase your elemental resistances, don't bother. A lot more enemies in EO4 use composite attacks compared to any of the...

I am very very surprised that this only took 2 attempts. She was very cooperative this fight. The hardest part of the run is pretty much over, though it's still not smooth sailing just yet. The Problem With 5 Imperials
มุมมอง 1.3K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
I normally don't make videos like these but I feel like I should at least highlight a bit of just how truly suffering this meme challenge run is. Labyrinth 2 is easily the hardest part of this run due to several reasons. The enemies here are considerably more tanky to the point where it's absolutely not worth fighting them until I get gear upgrades. But with EO4's escape rates, running from the...
Etrian Odyssey 4: Berserker King (5 Imperials)

Oh boy. Normally this boss doesn't do a lot, but when your offense is utterly gutted like this, he can be a bit of a doozy. You pretty much have to start the fight running into him from behind unless you want two Bloodbears joining in, basically making the fight nearly impossible. Getting a preemptive also skips him using Binding Voice on the first turn, which incidentally is a version that's a...
Etrian Odyssey 4: Bloodbear (5 Imperials)
มุมมอง 7659 หลายเดือนก่อน
There are two ways a 5 Imperial run in EO4 can go, both of which result in a lot of stupidity. One way is to create 5 Imperials, give everyone a drive blade, then start New Game Plus since you can't create Imperials there until you unlock them again, and watch as every enemy gets obliterated because your weapons are in late-game on the power curve as there are no earlygame drive blades. The oth...

I knew this edition had some subtle under the hood changes that were more than just bugfixes! Having said that, in the DS era, there were more than a few of "Bind or Die" regular and boss encounters. If they went through the trouble to boost binding then they really should went and made the all the skill trees less point intensive overall.
Is it available to share save data of DS? I was looking for level 99 with two unlock classes?
Peppino and Gustavo in the game.👀
I love the bloodbear fight, especially when they revealed the berserker king, cool design and fight altogether
Let me share you my team. Frontline: Paladin with FORCE. DH with FORCE up. three hexer in the back with 1 hp and revenge. use hp staff, triple hp accessory for 800hp and 2.2k damage output. Turn 1: paladin FORCE, DH FORCE, 3x revenge (6.6k damage). Turn 2: paladin/dh whatever, revenge, Turn 3: spam ok and pray u survive Turn 4: spam ok and win. 1 minute battle max and no need to recover FORCE
wow.... thats a hard fight. i didnt know this since my main team is 1 paladin, 3 1 hp hexer and 1 dark hunter and i just deal 2k to anything with revenge. with a single turn damage of 6.6k, i can kill UR-child in four turns (only need paladin and DH force move)
Ah yes, the "Stop running around you punny fly, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHh!!!" Strat xD
Black Hole CO's names. 👌
Thank you for mentioning the mists. Brought this fight from impossible to 1 shot ez pz
Die for me.
It's like they hired a bunch of executive's relatives for the voice acting. Horrible, why even bother
Wait, isn't this a boss? Why did it not give you exp? It's a black sphere and everything... I was expecting your level to shoot through the roof!
Optional bosses in EO1 and 2 did not give exp for whatever reason.
"We're quite experienced." "Lol lmfao bet." *CASUALLY DOES 59630 DAMAGE*
at 1:11 you get a prompt if you want to discard all progress, how exactly do you get that prompt?
The boundary to another dimension is coming undone ... in HD!
I enjoyed the game, and absolutely love the series... But *MAN* this is probably the worst ending to an rpg ive ever seen
I loved this series so much
We’re returning to Shinjuku in Metaphor!!!
That part blew my mind. seeing the city, hearing the music, the general map layout/map names… and then finally Eht Ria. Definitely explained why there were Etrian outfits in the DLC :P
hey is that song that plays on random battles in this floor new to the HD version? is it taken from some other game?
Perish Like the Dew is new to the HD version.
Turn 26. You knew it would use Explode because it used thunderstorm during the random element part, right? Or does it depend on something else? Because in my case, he does something else
Okay, I finally beat it... in normal, expert is too much for me. On phase 4 it never repeats elemental attacks so it skips to the next one in rotation. Wish this information was actually listed. 3 source I checked don't mention this.
It's a chance for it to use Explode. It can end up doing something else as the routines used are random. What you saw was a successful gamble in this video.
So, I don't know if you're still reading comments here but for some reason this isn't working for me on EO3HD. It worked with two characters so far, but with the third one, I'm not sure why, after defending turns 1-3 and escaping turns 4-5, on turn 5 the King summons adds. I'll do some more testing to try and isolate what's going on. Playing on Steam Deck, character is a Sov/Buc. I'm starting to think it may be because I'm offline and there's a cloud sync error on Steam, but I don't know if that makes any sense.
Okay, just tested with another character and it worked, so it seems whatever is throwing the cheese off is in my Sov/Buc. I'll keep doing tests and get some screen recordings later.
Oh shit, of course it's only in my Sovereign. I spent two hours doing variations of characters and skills and it's the stupidest thing: Royal Veil goes off at the end of the turn and throws off the rng. I'll leave the comment here in case someone is an idiot like me and has the same issue at some point.
Note that even then (with Royal Veil level 5, other levels will have different effects on the RNG) it's still doable, except it takes about 30 or 40 turns instead of 16. Just follow the original pattern and then repeat three turns Defend followed by three turns Escape until boss dies.

I fully explored Yggdrasil and uncovered the truth of the labyrinth. And all I got was a crown.
Speaking of 1st turn, did eo3 knighthood get its bug fixed?
Yes. For that matter, Rear Dignity as well.
@@DrAraxxor Related question: is there any place where all primary changes (bug fixes, mechanics, balance, etc) have been documented for the remasters? Everything I know about differences between DS & HD's mechanics are from your videos & comments I asked before
@@KazanmaTheSilverWind Doesn't seem to be a dedicated place from what I know. I've been compiling changes on a doc somewhere though.

@@DrAraxxor I appreciate the work you put in for us As someone who didn't play eo1&2's ds versions, I like how HD mostly stayed faithful to the original games aside from bug fixes. The added QoL changes helped my impatient self appreciate the original design more than I would've before that. though i'd say my overall favorites are 3, 4 & 5 (eo4 was my gateway to the series)
on what difficulty do you play?
This is set to Picnic in this instance.
Tried this tonight, it only does 7.5k damage, followed the setup exactly. Sadly seems to have been patched at some point.
Are you playing on Expert? Lower difficulties will lower the curse damage.
@@DrAraxxor im playing on expert with a level 60 hexer and it only does 15k damage is there something else im supposed to do?

Is this game part of legends of dragoon games?
No, it's etrian odyssey 4 part of the series of the same name made by atlus
It hurt my soul after I beat this thing there was just a whole dungeon full of these guys
Man. Now that's a quick way to grind. Having to constantly reset was the biggest issue for me so swallowing my pride, switching to picnic and then just using the turbo function on my controller really just makes this less of a slog.
To be honest, his spring is great to farm EXP, so he is worth it, just get a Protector, like "Why not?!"
b28 better.
This guy was buffed in Nexus.
When the devs know speedrunners would try and do this, they still gate the quest clear flag behind killing Fenrir. But hey you can kill the back row FOE easily and then do a preemptive strike on the boss.
does this work on the ds ver?
I want a strat on how to even get that far into the game
Hello Araxxor, sorry to bother you but this HD version of Etrian Odyssey 2 offers multiple difficulty modes and I want to know which one corresponds to the DS version
Expert is always considered the baseline difficulty whenever difficulty options are offered. Except for the Persona Qs, Normal is the difficulty that they initially balance around for those.
All he does is warhammer to me on the 2nd turn and I’m wiped 😑
thank you for this. i was worried i was missing out on something by not having a survivalist. the dragon had been getting me frustrated trying to get the volt scale. many a missed attack that would've otherwise killed. i didn't even register at first that the 400 damage i was seeing was from apollon. i figured i must've missed you buffing or something and it was multihit. wow. and here i was thinkin' i should grind one into my party based solely on my experience with it in eo1.
In defense of survivalists People use them wrong, their status arrows actually stack nice with things like the Dark Hunter and Shamans (the War Mages) and their skills are perfect as they dont need a lot to get a mix of good skills like Bow, Status and Gather Skills So they do fine as supports, plus they resist damage from an ENDGAME strongest skill, damn, I have a party with units with High Tec and still die, so I get that they are fine at least in defense Just that people sees them as destroyers of the cosmos like on EO1 instead of the support debuffer it became in EO2 And I mean, thats ignoring the Poison Arrow is their ticket to the Zamiel Bow on the first stratum for Heavens Sake Get that early game and all becomes a Joke Is like the people ignoring the best axe is on the second stratum and goes Badonkers for Scycilia and her stratum
Their status arrows have low base infliction rates (45%) that get very heavily dulled by resistances in big fights. Unlike binds, they don't have the absurd bad luck mitigation that HD added. All the status classes suffer due to big enemies having such big resistances, but they at least have higher rates to deal with that. They actually lost support debuffs since they could lower enemy accuracy in 1, but can't do that here. Ultimate weapons in this game cost a lot of money that they cost a lot of time to go for. If you just gather, it'll take so much time that you could have spent just progressing normally. If you farm for boss conditionals to get the funds, then you'll be overleveled anyways to trivialize the game even without said ultimate weapons, which is not how everyone plays anyways. Never mind that axes are exclusive to Landsknechts, and that in order to get that conditional, you need a Dark Hunter as well (which isn't a great class to pair with a Landsknecht since they really want to be using their chaser skills), or a Ronin, who has a 2% chance of even instantly killing Hellion to grab that.
so initiative is useless if you're using links? What about the landsknecht's class skill, is it subject to the same bug if you use links?
No. It just simply places a hidden debuff on the targeted enemy for that turn. All that matters in that case is the Landsknecht attacking before their allies for their team to benefit. (And it doesn't stack.)
@@DrAraxxor nice, so the class skill works but initiative doesn't really. Good to know.
In this episode the 5 imperial run finally actually has 5 imperials
Fun Fact: The intro lasted longer than the fight
Why was I thinking the opposite was gunna happen
Been watching this run from the shadows, loved the power spike and early game struggle. I miss eo4 now. Also imperial feels so different to nexus here. Big sad. Anyways thanks for this run, ive always loved the eo content and crazy junk
Do you play on console or emulator?
Emulator is the only way I can record the 3DS games.
Ah yes, the strategy of "the best defense."
Them pants though.
Unrelated to gameplay, but Hraesvelgr was the eagle that lived at the top of Yggdrasil in Norse mythology. It and the dragon Nidhogg were rivals, and both tried to destroy the tree (Hraesvelgr by blowing away the branches, Nidhogg by gnawing at the roots). And its name means the awesome-sounding "Corpse Swallower". I just like trivia, sorry! :) Nice dunk.
