As a former submariner, I was surprised that none of the crew wore dolphins, the insignia of qualified submariners.

Fun fact: no women feature in any of the scenes of this film. Which must have excited Rock Hudson

I just watched this out of the blue and when I watched the movie I never caught Goohan thanks the Russian. I remember him basically saying there was nor reason to continue fighting.

Underated movie

The press announcement at the end says it all... The Cold War had rules....

He always wanted to extend 👋 lifespan as far possible using years of induced coma. This explained his bizarre appearance of extremely long fingernails, obviously. So maybe his doppelganger died in his place like Adolf Hitlers and he is still alive?❤️

I loved the movie and the soundtrack - BUT - I just noticed that in the opening credits when they show the Russian technicians that the instrument labels are just pasted on paper prints on top of the original labels (that are not sticking well to the equipment at all. BTW)! Made me laugh, you would have thought with such a budget that they could do better! Ah the curse of endless rewatchability....

Who would have thought back then that we and the Soviets would be in a new Cold War again. And all it took was an ex-KGB officer running Russia as if he was Stalin or Brezhnev.

This was the movie that got me interested in submarines, remember watching this on the big screen as a kid awesome shots of submarine taking the dice.

MARILYN BERGMAN (1929 - 2022)

Saw this at the drive in when I was little boy. This theme went through my bones. Launched me into a lifelong career in music.. Those french horns,, my God..

Retro Cinema mag has a feature on this movie. Despite being a "cinerama" movie, it was mostly filmed on soundstages. The Arctic scenes were done on a set. The production designer researched for 2 years on how the inside of a nuclear sub should look like. The sub sets took 6 months to build.

Please somebody remake this.

Why would you "blow negative" while you are submerging?!...it doesn't make since.

This film is worth watching just to watch McGoohan's brilliant, riveting performance. He takes the movie to a different level of excellence.

I am just sick of some of d comments made by some regarding movie,which is definitely a great movie.What some people must try and understand,a movie is made according to it's story.Some fans if there is no shooting and killing,then d movie is not good.It's d same with d acting by d leading actors,they r suppose to portray d character of d script,not themselves.There r some actors who r always d same in every role,however Rock Hudson was never like this,which makes him one of d most underated actors in Hollywood classic movies.He was a versatile actor,who was good in dramas,comedies, westerns and any role he chose to do.RIP.Rock Hudson!

When I joined the Navy in 1978, this movie was on my mind.

1968 was a great year for these kinds of epic dramas of various sorts such as "2001," "Bullitt," "Oliver!," "Planet of the Apes," "The Green Berets," "Funny Girl," "The Graduate," "The Thomas Crown Affair" and a bunch of others. Back when films were still about people and not "superheroes."

Always thought it odd they used a film shot inside submarines to showcase the widescreen splendour of Cinerama 😁

I came home from my date on a Saturday night 1992 and caught this movie half way through. Loved the movie so much that the next day I rented the VHS movie and now I own the DVD. I don't think the movie did so great at the box office in 1968. The movie may have been ahead of it's time. The dialogue is great but the action is too few.
